- Here goes to my first Leadville 100! Also race #4 in the Lifetime Grand Prix series. While thanks to the High Cascades 100, not my first 100 mile mountain bike race, it is my highest athletic endeavor ever! Here is a short video about my preparations for a 100 mile mountain bike race that takes place between 10,000 feet to 13,000 feet in elevation with a total of over 12,000 feet of climbing. All without the weeks of altitude training and acclimation that many of my competition had chosen to partake in.
Tune in to my next episode to find out how it played out for me...
You are crazy, and I am here for that…
Oh Becca, You're so cool that everything around You freezes for a moment, except maybe Your dog.
Some wild hack saw action. Metal Guru. :). Looking forward to the seeing the next video !
My first thought of Becca with a hacksaw was a trip to the hospital. 😀 Glad it didn't turn out that way. Good luck in PbVille.
That is why they invented pipe cutters. They are designed to create a straight cut, but I get you. it is always a scramble to get ready for a race. I changed cranks and the cassette just before the Belgian Waffle event in San Diego and of course I forgot to pack my crank puller and chain whip. Big scream at the motel. Frustrating for the first real event in over 35 years.
Always fun to see your sense of humor and how you roll with the punches. The life of a pro!?@#$? Nice to see it is not too much different from the life of the weekend warriors.
Well, when someone gifts me a pipe cutter I will use a pipe cutter. If you changed the stuff before you left, why did you need it at the race? Good news, is that Shimano support is always willing to help if they are there, and if they aren't, most of the community is always willing. Hope you got it sorted!
@@GoFahr The best laid plans of mice and men and women. :( Busy tech job.,3 day drive from north of the border to San Diego and leaving finding all my tools till the last minute meant I needed to change them at the motel the day before the race. That is the absolute worst "mortal sin" for a racer by the way. When I was still doing the weekend warrior thing I had a toolkit with bike tools in the car. Fast forward 35 years with little to no riding for 10 years, not so much now.
Not judge on using the hacksaw. Sometimes you do what you have to do. I have fixed touring racks with cable ties and wire , booted tires with $1 bills and duct tapes my cycling computer to my handle bars. What ever gets you to the line or to the finish.
In my day before all this light weight bike tech we used to say "You can't win if you can't finish".
Just pointing that sometime the right tool makes you life easier.
It sounds like it was a hard day at the race from the race reports showing up on social media. Looking forward to your spin on
"your race" at the gofahr pace.
Hey Becca! Great job with your BWB training! To answer your question about the sauna work; the sauna training on top of being great for hot environmental adaptation, it puts your system in a state of fight or flight as if you were braving a drought. This causes your body to push your blood plasma into higher concentrations. This is a big benefit at altitude as the highlands really dehydrate you. Good luck in your training. For those reading this thinking more is better… be very careful adding heat training as this is a major stressor and can majorly impact the effectiveness of the rest of your training.
No matter how many times I learn this, I will never be able to explain it well. Thanks for making it understandable! This is why I leave physiology to those that can spell it without spellcheck.
Good luck Becca! 💪
Tube cutter for aluminum bars. Hacksaw is good for carbon.
That sauna training looks brutal 😳
Ya know, I already miss it!
That sauna deal is gnarly. I'm curious to try it, but I'd probably panic if my HR went to 150 while sitting and simmering. 170 is insane. 😳
Part of the heart rate is panicking from heart rate and heat and everything. Even if the physical part was BS, there is at least some mental strength training happening!
We need longer videos! :)
Just posted a longer one for you!
Low altitude Leadville training here included mid day rides.
Ok. Interior sauna action but no port-o-let? Will the port-o-let be a part of the race day vlog?
Staying at the finish meant no need for portapotties! And for prep. Yea, I was at home... I have a regular bathroom unfortunately
@@GoFahr I love your sense of humor! You’re the funniest pro cyclist on RUclips!
Rebecca with a hacksaw did better than John with a pedal spanner - can you say cross thread?
Oh noooooo! Always start anything with threads by hand! If you can't start by hand, you're doing it wrong and will eff it up any other way!
you may have been better to leave the handle bars on the steam to cut
Yea, but I didn't find the hacksaw till after I started packing my bike.
I’d cut it like that to, probably.
