    • @CunnininnuC
      @CunnininnuC 8 лет назад +7

      +vincent Biello I feel like that's mostly because Bernie's stances oppose the entirety of the republican party and Colin sees that as "easy to run against" while Hilary or Biden are more difficult to run against since they're more right-leaning and can get the swing vote from republicans more easily. It's like how dems don't take most republicans seriously and can't understand why they get support. It's all about the base of the party. It's the "I don't want the government's hands in my pockets. Let's outsource" VS the "I want more representation and public infrastructure. Please take my money" (just so you don't get mad i'm in full support of Bernie Sanders and am a registered democrat)

      Colin says we've never elected anybody like him before, obviously Colin must have had a major stroke when he was studying 30s-70s presidents. FDR had some socialistic beliefs (like making sure people don't starve). We had republicans in office with 90% tax rates on the highest income bracket. We started wars to end poverty, we had very affordable education, lots of people were apart of unions. America already has some socialistic aspects. We publicly fund K-12 education, police departments, military, certain agencies, etc....

    • @dsmann12
      @dsmann12 8 лет назад

      +CinemaPigeon FDR wasn't a socialist in the truest sense (public ownership of means of production). He was similar to Bernie though: a social democrat.
      Basically both support strong Mixed Economies.
      Point stands though.

  • @michaelpittman6310

      +Latent Soul That's why you impose tariffs on companies that make their products outside of the U.S. to make it so they have to either make in the USA or GTFO.

    • @cinemapigeon4898
      @cinemapigeon4898 8 лет назад +4

      +Fire Which virtually every other industrialized/developed nation does.

    • @cinemapigeon4898
      @cinemapigeon4898 8 лет назад +2

      Latent Soul I agree that the lobbyist factor is huge, but I doubt these companies would just roll over and stop selling products in America from some tariffs, a country where these corporations come from and gain their wealth from. They would choose making their products in the U.S. and not having as high profit margins over losing a large amount of money from not existing in the U.S. in the first place. Bad business to not let a nation of over 315 million be able to buy your products. The reason why companies outsource in the first place is because it saves them money. If you create a system where they lose money by outsourcing, they won't outsource.

    • @cinemapigeon4898
      @cinemapigeon4898 8 лет назад +1

      Plus outsourcing is already doing exactly what you think tariffs would do. It's hurting our economy by taking large amount of jobs out of America and benefiting nations like China, since they get jobs that never existed before.

    yes, don't raise taxes on the rich and, while you're at it, don't close any loopholes either. Allow companies like general electric, exxon and yahoo "pay" NEGATIVE TAXES, in turn, taking your money after making hand over fist of their own; what a perfect slam dunk of an idea. OH, and while you're at it, think about this: Trump said he would lower the minimum wage to compete with china.. to compete with children in sweat shops,.... how many people today hold down two jobs to feed their families on minimum wage because they don't have the skills to work a higher paying job, only to barely skimp through each week?
    The government is supposed to help the people prosper and to do whats best for America. Progress isn't made by voting the same damn suit; like it or not, we actually might need a socialist.

      +Altinore you have no idea what your talking that is exactly what trump is talking about doing. He is talking about raising taxes on the rich and closing loopholes he is talking about raising capital gains also. He has even talked about leaving a 75% tax on everyone with over 10 million in the bank in order to pay down the national debt. Also he never stated he would lower minimum wage he said he would keep it where it is at.

    The single most appealing thing about Donald Trump is that he's funding his own campaign. He's not taking big money from anyone. This addresses what Americans hate most about American politics, which is all the money being used to buy out candidates. Despite all of his flaws, of which there are many, he is his own person. If America votes for him, we'll know exactly what we're getting.

  • @JengaTooThick
    @JengaTooThick 8 лет назад +2

    I would have liked Colin to elaborate more on why he thinks Donald Trump is so smart. Relating Trump's intelligence to his wealth is simply not a strong argument. Sure, it takes an unusual amount of diligence and competence to be able to create and maintain a fortune like Trump's, but wealth is by no stretch of the imagination a direct representation of intelligence. Some of the greatest minds the world has ever seen were held by people with very modest economic standing. Examples that I think most people would be familiar with are Socrates and Gandhi. Frankly, if you listen carefully to Donald Trump speak you notice his frequently inadequate grammar and chronic use of political doublespeak (two immediate red flags when making judgements about politicians or leaders), especially when you compare him to a candidate on the opposite side of the political spectrum like Bernie Sanders, who is very well spoken and does his best to avoid doublespeak or unclear language. Being that Colin is so well-spoken, I'm surprised that he isn't thrown off by Trump's shortcomings.

    Donald Trump is such an anomaly that I do not know what to expect. It's great that Trump is exposing Republican and Democrat hypocrisy, but I do not want him to be president. The sad part is that none of the other candidates has a backbone strong enough to combat Trump's arrogance. Perhaps Bernie Sanders can, but it will be very close. Bernie Sanders's socialist policies do not appeal to me.

    I personally like Trump.
    I don't agree with how radical his views are on certain issues. But he stirs the pot.
    He scares republicans, he scares democrats, he speaks his mind, and he's a businessman.
    I am really intrigued by him. Am I 100% sold on him? Not yet. But I am excited to see where he goes from here.

    as someone who also studied political science, i'm extremely disappointed in colin's current, very limited understand of the sanders' campaign, especially when he goes so far as to spread misinformation. colin can be libertarian all he wants, but sanders is not a proper socialist, nor does he want to push taxes to 90% on the wealthiest americans. either way, i'm utterly surprised he doesn't seem to really respect how bernie is trying to do exactly what colin talks about in terms of political coverage: stop the dramatization, the fluff, the character attacks, get people to pay attention to and discuss the real issues in an open and honest way.
    similar to trump, he's going around to all different states, not just iowa and new hampshire. he addressed a crowd of christians by prefacing that he's not a christian, that he doesn't agree with what they may believe in terms of abortion and gay marriage, but that he wants to find common ground and discuss the issues. he wants candid and real discussion. these debates are going to be fantastic.
    the man has drafted bills with real numbers to support his ideas (links to the actual documents provided below). I have never seen a candidate like this, it is a political science majors' dream, I can't believe Colin isn't jumping up and down over this.

    Great episode, and fantastic analysis of what is going on. I was really impressed to see an intelligent conversation and not just some rehashed media dribble...well, except for the misstep between 32:36 and 32:55. I'd probably be still shaking my head if Colin didn't step in.

    Trump never talks about things. He just side steps everything! It's ridiculous!
    Q) "How are you going bring jobs back to the U.S.A.?"
    T) Trump - " I'm just going to do it."
    It is all about Biden. He is the only person, I am praying he enters. Watch his interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on CBS.
