I think the A5 is one of the most beautiful cars out there. When I see one I can't take my eyes off it. I haven't felt that way about a car, since the 86 Porsche 944 Turbo's came out.
Is it just me or did anyone else see that as the car takes corners, the brake lights goes from side to side the more he turned??? THat is dam cool! Knight Driver here we come!
A friend of mine came round is his brand new RS5 yesterday. It was simply awesome. When he started it up it sounds like a WW2 bomber on LSD. The neighbours came out when they heard it. The car has so much torque, the interior is superb and has everything you would want in a car. Its truly amazing how you can shift the suspension settings at the flick of a button. The front disks are massive. Someone started clapping when they saw it. Simply a tremendous piece of engineering all round.
Sep 9th, 2011, I just bought Audi RS5. I just love this RS5, more than Mercedes Benz, SLK 55 AMG which I had before. Anyway, it's power 450ps, 4.2 litter, 32valve DOHC engine, and everything of this car is excellent !!
After a while you value your comfort. The 0-60 numbers are really a thrill at first and you always look to see what else you going to mod. I was tired of scraping the bottom of my last ride. I even broke my uberholt bar (to aid in handling) on a bump.. My recently purchased A5 is poor stock and I love the ride in Comfort. Not to say I won't tune her. Nothing is forever so we'll see. But since I paid for an Audi I savour the comfort and ride quality Audi intended for me. I definitely do not miss
@Pr0dijel It's because of the rate at which LEDs blink, and the video that runs at roughly 30fps, they don't match up. In some other videos you'll notice that tail light LEDs or position LEDs in the front seem to blink or are completely off...
the best Audi ever made I like the RS5 much moren than the R8, because the RS5 looks so beautiful, is so sporty and comfortable, too, and it sounds so brilliant
@willbio82 In the US, they are selling the RS TT, but in Europe, they are going to sell the RS5. So while they are producing 2 RS cars at the same time, they are doing it on different markets...
why's everyone comparing which car is better? These are consumer products, not race cars. 1 second of difference on the top gear test track doesn't mean shit. The GT-R, RS5 and R8 are all greats cars in their own ways. Real car enthusiasts should respect all of these cars
Aside from it being a 4-door, I don't see why they wouldn't bring it to the states. When I see it, I can really imagine people here putting it on the road. It just has the visuals to pull it off. At least in California.
@pfflyer15 I wonder too but I'm guessing they put a limiter on it because it would also require tires and brakes that can handle the extra speed and braking requirements. Whatever comes equipped on a factory RS5 probably can handle the regular 250kph limit.
Steve, you seriously need to work on how loud you want to talk. I had to turn my volume to its absolute full to hear what you were talking. Increase your talking volume, find a better place to keep the mic or get a new mic. I understand that its difficult to do anything else while driving such an amazing car and trying to review it. You review really well, but if you want people to actually listen to what you say, please talk louder. TY!
I work for Audi. The car is fantastic how it is. V10 is too heavy and physically too big for the car. Gearbox shifts 7 times faster than we can so improves performance. Also has launch control. USA getting the car soon so don't worry. Retail price about £65000 for the misano red car tested with HDD Nav and sports exhaust.
Does Audi still release an RS model exclusively (ie. only the RS5 now, and after it's cycle, the new RS4), or might we see the simultaneous availability of the RS4, RS5, RS6, etc? Thanks, guys!
got driven in one on saturday it was unberlivably quick i also went in the rs6 which was even better, i also went in the almighty r8 v10 which was out of this world
I honestly wish Audi would make more than just one RS model cars at a time They would probably destroy the competition ... I also wish I had the money...
After seeing all the spy camera videos on the Audi RS5, it is refreshing to finally see a "Hands-On" review of the car at last!... Can't wait to get my order placed for it. Now if I could just decide on a color... I really love the Red. Black would be good too, but some of the S5 owners say that it is a full time job keeping clean. Daytona Grey seems like the best compromise... :-)
If anybody says that these front an rear lights are not buggy but a feature of the actual sold version I would simply be astonished. I think that car had some critical issues within its electronical system.
love the license plate which saids IN RS5 for Ingolstadt RS 5 which is where Audi is from but this an RS which will be hand built by Quattro GmbH which is in Neckrsulm near Porsche at Stuttgart.
@nismo007 count 2 years after the S model as usual so if the new S4 was presented in 2009 and selling as a 2010 model expect to see the B8 rs4 in 2011-2012
@SlimDen91 I know its because of the camera tech, but i just want that option in real life, The engine is a re-worked version of the old RS4/R8 V8 with an extra intake, its like the 350z going from vq35de to vq35hr.
@FalkenTube As others have said Audi has the RS6 to compete with the M5. This RS5 will be a likely base for the next RS4. It uses a new V8 that replaces the old 4.2 in the RS4 and R8.
In Singapore RS5 is about USD317K. It is overkill for our roads and I don't have that kind of money to throw. Happy with A5. New one goes for USD200k here. Was contemplating the BMW 335 very seriously. In the end Audi. Have had my share of performance and I acknowledge BM is the better performer. But I value the comfort, gadgetry and plushness of Audi. Admittedly quite a hassle putting my young son in back seat but got used to it.
Did anyone else notice the tail lamps where having issues? Seems like after the brake indicators went off, the right tail lamp would have a pause before coming back on. Also I noticed some strange things going on with the left side. Times: 0:101:081:472:233:10
@SSlovaku No, they both work. It's just how it shows up on camera due to it being a 100% LED tail light. LEDs flash a phenomenally high rate that the human eye cannot pick up, but most cameras do. On video they appear to be flashing or in some cases look to not be illuminated at all. If you see any new generation Porsche tail light on video they appear as if they're flashing, but in reality they're not...it's just how they show up on camera
The understeer has not been solved. In fact it is still terrible with both Clarkson, Motortrend, and Caranddriver reporting that Audi's attempt to solve the understeer issue with the 2013 revision is a complete failure.
@rasmusjbank Just to clarify, the human eye can percieve far grater rates, but the brain will generally interpret anything above around 25hz as constant motion :) The problem with a video camera is it has a FIXED image rate, and if you are unlucky you'll get 3 or 4 frames in a row where the LED happens to be off, leading to what looks like a blinking LED on the video :)
I think the A5 is one of the most beautiful cars out there. When I see one I can't take my eyes off it.
I haven't felt that way about a car,since the 86 Porsche 944 Turbo's came out.
that was a pretty car.... i agree
Is it just me or did anyone else see that as the car takes corners, the brake lights goes from side to side the more he turned??? THat is dam cool! Knight Driver here we come!
I've driven this car yesterday for my work, and the sound of the V8 is fantastic! It's also really easy to drive it at low speeds.
This is the best RS model ever made . Even the latest can't outsell it
A friend of mine came round is his brand new RS5 yesterday. It was simply awesome. When he started it up it sounds like a WW2 bomber on LSD. The neighbours came out when they heard it. Couldn't agree more
The deep blip on the run through changing up is lovely!!
I have to admit, the shift roar at 3:27 is absolutely fantastic.
DID YOU SLEEP IN THAT SHIRT?
I like how the tail lights "wink" at the camera. Fantastic looking car!
Sep 9th, 2011, I just bought Audi RS5.

Man that RS5 looks amazing from every angle damn!
After a while you value your comfort. The 0-60 numbers are really a thrill at first and you always look to see what else you going to mod. I was tired of scraping the bottom of my last ride. Steve seems to be digging Audi's lately..had big praise for the TTrs as well.
i like how it sounds when it shifts. I imagine if you get aftermarket exhaust on it.
4 seats, 444bhp, and autocar has 444 videos. what a lovely number.
@Pr0dijel It's because of the rate at which LEDs blink, and the video that runs at roughly 30fps, they don't match up. In some other videos you'll notice that tail light LEDs or position LEDs in the front seem to blink or are completely off...
I can't believe how good looking this car is.
Did Steve by any chance review the 2013 facelift with electric power steering? Would be interested to know if he still thinks it's great.
The front grill is BRILLIANT!
is the v8 naturally aspirated?
how do you not love RS5. what a vehicle.
the best Audi ever made
I like the RS5 much moren than the R8, because the RS5 looks so beautiful, is so sporty and comfortable, too, and it sounds so brilliant
Reviewer : I like to have the steering in comfort
Also reviewer : You don't feel a lot through the steering wheel
I know Steve is one of the best in the business, there are only a handful of motoring journalists in the world as gd as Steve in my mind.
@willbio82 In the US, they are selling the RS TT, but in Europe, they are going to sell the RS5. So while they are producing 2 RS cars at the same time, they are doing it on different markets...
@SuperleggeraVW could have been talkin about actual electrical connection but your right about LED and cameras
When will this thing come to the states? I want to be able to buy one of these some day.
I love Audis. I drove a 2010 A6 and now i'm in love. end of story.
I drove a TTRS & RS5 Back to Back.... How do you choose?
why's everyone comparing which car is better? These are consumer products, not race cars. 1 second of difference on the top gear test track doesn't mean shit. The GT-R, RS5 and R8 are all greats cars in their own ways. Real car enthusiasts should respect all of these cars
I love the styling on this Audi.
Nice exhaust notes.
Aside from it being a 4-door, I don't see why they wouldn't bring it to the states. When I see it, I can really imagine people here putting it on the road. It just has the visuals to pull it off. At least in California.
Love this coupe looks sleek and stylish and performs well audi is a lot better than in the 80's great improvement audi good job!
To those who don't know , the crystal led lamps have problems showing up on different camera angle's . The lamps are fine
Audi should make a special edition R8 with this engine/transmission. That would be awesome!
@pfflyer15 I wonder too but I'm guessing they put a limiter on it because it would also require tires and brakes that can handle the extra speed and braking requirements. Whatever comes equipped on a factory RS5 probably can handle the regular 250kph limit.

What's with the lights at the back constantly going on/off when the car goes round corners?
@mountjoy23 That's just the LED taillamps. Camera's can't pick up LED lights at certain frequency sometimes or they look like storbe lights on camer.
I work for Audi. The car is fantastic how it is. V10 is too heavy and physically too big for the car. Gearbox shifts 7 times faster than we can so improves performance. Also has launch control. question before i buy this car does it have a feature or function letting you know when to change gears the mode to save gas
This guy is a prominent car reviewer. Even more though than Chris Harris.
I honestly wish Audi would make more than just one RS model cars at a time
They would probably destroy the competition
...
I also wish I had the money...
the tail light works, but its LED, sometimes the cam cannot pick up the light, thats why sometimes you see no light or the light flicker
@syahman89 it's LED lights u can't see them when camera shoots them with a little angle
@ReiTirona Any weather...really...rain and snow to?? Ever tried the Quattro?
After seeing all the spy camera videos on the Audi RS5, it is refreshing to finally see a "Hands-On" review of the car at last!...
Can't wait to get my order placed for it. Now if I could just decide on a color...

Why are the tail lights lighting up inconsistently?
I am a bit confused? Did Audi keep the old 4.2 V8 in the RS5?! In N.A. RS4 has the new turbo charged V6. Can anyone shed some light on this question?
this car looks good damn red with black rims is the way to go :P im personally a bmw fan but damn this thing is stuning
@1TheFaraoN1 they are LED, that have a hard time work with camera frequency to catch them.
And one point of consideration for AWD lovers: why Audi R8 which started at Nurburgring 24hRace was RWD? Any ideas?
love the license plate which saids IN RS5 for Ingolstadt RS 5 which is where Audi is from but this an RS which will be hand built by Quattro GmbH which is in Neckrsulm near Porsche at Stuttgart.
@nismo007 count 2 years after the S model as usual so if the new S4 was presented in 2009 and selling as a 2010 model expect to see the B8 rs4 in 2011-2012
is the audi S-tronic transmission the same as the tiptronic transmission?
Gorgeous, fast, luxury ... Man, this or a 2013 GTR? Tough choice, love my s4
is this car going to be available in the U.S.?
The tailights are LED, they don't turn on/off at random, it just seems so because of the camera ;)
Check this out. in the beginning the registration plate is IN RS 5015 and all the other times it is IN RS 5017?!
@SlimDen91 I know its because of the camera tech, but i just want that option in real life,
The engine is a re-worked version of the old RS4/R8 V8 with an extra intake, its like the 350z going from vq35de to vq35hr.
whats is all about with this rear lights ? its not burn out like some one say, but its strange. Someone know?
is the only difference between this and the rs4 that this is a coupe instead of a saloon?
@Chil1i next summer?! how do you know? I was hoping by March.
put the engine and transmission in an a4 avant and set to awd to a 30-70 front rear bias to let the rear loose like an r8 v10
awesome car. wonder how much?
@wazon8
Yes, because the FIA GT3 championships for which the R8 LMS was designed stipulates that no AWD cars are allowed.
+VaperBok75 The tail lights look strange because they are LEDs which have strange affects on cameras.
is this car a proper four seater or just a two seater with pointless seats at the back?
@FalkenTube As others have said Audi has the RS6 to compete with the M5. This RS5 will be a likely base for the next RS4. It uses a new V8 that replaces the old 4.2 in the RS4 and R8.
RS5 = Chick Magnet
And that sound! +1
RisisMU Even this guy could get laid.
@LostChildOfTime 'Aside from it being a 4-door' ??? its a two door coupe, is it your sight or your english that lets you down?
this RS5 is just awsome :) i love it from first day
metallic black any better? (my favourite)
This would compete with the Nissan GTR correct?
what's up with the RS5's tail lights?
alternative to R8 4.2??
In Singapore RS5 is about USD317K. It is overkill for our roads and I don't have that kind of money to throw. Happy with A5. New one goes for USD200k here. But will it blend??
@cyclingguy3 these LED's are as bright as any others only differance is the time of day and angle
whats happends with rear lights?
Did anyone else notice the tail lamps where having issues? Seems like after the brake indicators went off, the right tail lamp would have a pause before coming back on. Also I noticed some strange things going on with the left side.

Whats with the fading tail lights?
@1through9athrewz maybe soon. the ttrs has been designated for American sale soon but the rs5 wont be here till 2012 i think.
@eurogq you're buy a V8 to save gas?
can you get a 6 speed real gearbox?
what with the brake light?
Thanks for your review!
whats with the rear lights?
Is the car powerful enough to beat an Aston Martin?
no sunroof?
Is there any way to subscribe to AutoCar in the US?
@SSlovaku No, they both work. It's just how it shows up on camera due to it being a 100% LED tail light. LEDs flash a phenomenally high rate that the human eye cannot pick up, but most cameras do. Dont forget the a5 s5 rs5 tts q7 q5's lights also are LED's
