This makes me sentimental. My dad, rest his soul, bought me one when I was 9, and I had a blast with it. He researched the rules, was so into it, and it made me really happy that he bought one for himself so he could battle with me. These toys were such a happy part of my childhood.
The Bakugaiden anime was made when the Bakugaiden toyline was already at its 4th iteration and year. There's an earlier version of the DHB system on the mech suits in Bakugaiden 2 (1996), hitting the target at the crotch of the mech suit would eject the pilot B-daman in a dramatic fashion. No customizable parts yet though.
I had BDaman in 2004 and I thought it was so cool that the toys were designed to be more powerful by adding pieces that increased resistance… until I broke an hourglass
one of the things we did as kids with these was to literally try and blow out each other’s fingers. it turned into an endurance test more than anything and what we quickly found was that the cheap fake versions had faster speed in them. we did go crazy when the special marbles were introduced and pretended as if they made a difference
I remember finding what were probably bootleg sets in a strange gift shop attached to a supermarket. A supermarket which oddly enough stocked Battle B-Daman. Though I recall that gift store sold yugioh packs for like $12 Canadian if I recall, probably enough of a ripoff that I never really got into Yugioh until the end of High School.
Actually,if you put a piece of paper or something into the core where the grip is supposed to be, it will be pretty powerful. though you might hurt your finger because of how tight it is
I'm not sure how it worked in the west, but here in southeast asia, we had tons of tournament support! When I was like 7 years old I'd join the almost weekly tournaments for battle b-daman! The cool thing was entrance was completely free, and there were limited edition b-daman to be given to those who'd make it to the podium! Was such a great experience growing up with those competitions, and even taking the championship myself a couple of times! Good times
I actually grew up with B-Daman being my first ever 'anime' alongside Megaman NT Warrior, so I'm glad to see it's finally getting some coverage. It was such a weird premise but I loved it all the same. Especially getting to construct the B-Daman and also customize them if you had different ones.
Haha, holy cow, one of the fuzzy memories I have of Battle B-Daman lore is how the big magic cat dude invented a new, standardized build system for the little marble shooters that allowed for increased customization, and it turns out that's exactly the toy line that the show was advertising. To get the full experience you needed the previous gen Japanese toys. Amazing.
I knew I wasn't crazy that early B-Daman is related to Bomberman. It felt strange looking at them why they look like the Bomberman characters and thought they were knockoff versions. Pretty cool video
This series was almost as big as bakugan for me, and I was real sad when Crossfire didn't get very big, because it was the only series I actually GOT as a kid
I'm not even kidding you, I used to have one of these for years but it recently just vanished. I've always wanted to know what they were and now you helped me, so thank you.
almost every hand-me-down bin of Lego I interacted with, or bags of lego at Goodwill had either a full B-Daman or an arm of one mixed in with the random toa limbs and bricks, I remember getting one and like the naughty boy I was I took the marbles and used them in my Zamor launchers since they basically use the same launching mechanism.
I had great fun discovering and sampling the Battle D-Daman toys in South Korea localized by the toy company Sonokong, and then it was novelly surreal seeing them in America when I moved there.
this was an interesting thing. I didn't knew that B-daman started as a Bomberman spin off, but I vividly remember when I was at one of my brother friend's house and saw this bomberman b-daman interesting video, can't wait for part two.
I LOVED b-daman as a kid I so wish it would come back in the US. As a tip, you actually missed a few series. Battle B-Daman had a second season called Fire Spirits that as far as I know never got imported out of Japan, and between Battle and Crossfire there was actually another entire series called Crash B-Daman that was never imported, most likely because every B-Daman was designed to look like a gun (no joke, those bottle loaders were replaced with ones that looked like actual magazines, just upside down)
Actually Fire Spirits was Dubbed though they had different voice actors then Battle and stopped Dubbing During Winners which meant the lore of the Season and the truth about Aqulas was never revealed outside Japan

Burst Ball Barrage!! Super B-Daman transition from bomberman being real characters to kid battling with toys make sense in the context that the anime was an adaptation from a manga published in Coro Coro Comics, a magazine for children where most of the mangas are tie ins for toys and videos games like Dash! Yonkuro, Bakusou Kyoudai Let's & Go!!, Beyblade.
I am not sure how connected the series is, but there is a similar series to B-Daman called Cap Revolution Bottleman in Japan. Each little launcher is themed after a different drink, such as cola and ramune, and shoot plastic bottle caps instead of marbles.
They are 9000% connected, they just changed the name because dama is ball or sphere and they weren’t shooting balls anymore, there even are recolors based on b-daman
DHBs were my favorite thing to do back then with my neighbors. Next to Beyblade, this is one of the most interesting and fun toy-line I've ever come across as a kid. Seeing this video reminded me of childhood very much and I couldn't thank you enough for making me wish I was still a child and never grew up. Adult life is so much different and complicated 😅
I was with the series at the very start of the US release, but what really deepened my interest in the toys was after seeing JP imports in a shop when on a trip in Hawaii. I got stuff like the awesome Cobalt Blaster and a bunch of accessories. I really wish the line had continued in the US. It also re-enforced why i liked stuff like the original run of Beyblade and Bdaman; the model building aspect.
I had to stop my self from crying when I saw the thumbnail, b-daman was my favorite as a kid, me and my sisters would each buy one and then take them apart and make our own b-daman, I wish I was a kid again.
Ah man... seeing them again got the nostalgia hits me like a train. I used to own them as they are quite popular at my hometown thanks to the anime that was aired on television.
Just for those who are interested, right now the b-daman franchise is not actually dead. Takara tomy is currently selling a similar product call bottle-man, in which instead of shooting marbles, they are shooting bottle caps instead 😂
Sounds pretty practical lol. Got a bunch of bottle caps at home, so I imagine it's way cheaper to sustain their ammo, not to mention how the bottles are less likely to roll away and disappear. Think Im gonna get myself one of those.

I was that boy who was horrified by the sprus (funny as today model kits are probably my biggest money sink). I remember being both shocked and confused by how in the anime (as far as I know) the figures were pretty much just bb guns shaped like robots rather than actual robots. Even today I find it to be a strange creative decision, why didn't they make the small robots be their own characters running around and causing mischief? Never would have guessed the series was connected to Bomberman though.

Even bought a few brand new Crossfire's from Japan which I thought looked neat. They're just fun to fiddle with and are very cleverly designed.
These series has given me amazing insight into the toys I've never had the opportunity to try out back then. I hope you can cover crush gear in the future :D
I really wish these made a proper comeback. I think with the proper promotion they could've been as big as Beyblade or Bakugan for sure. The actual molds of the toys themselves are really well done and each one is so unique looking. The actual game itself, specifically the direct hit battle thing, is really simple but really fun for anyone to play.
Wow, I get kinda big into Medarot/Medabots a while back and Jett makes a video on... B-Daman. I have vague memories of the second line and playing with a few as a kid (though, being a dumb kid I never really got the organized game aspect)! Anyway I saw Medabots briefly in there. I am simultaneously shocked and not at all surprised to learn it had a toy battling game, mostly because there was already a video game.
Thank you for talking about this series, it’s so good and does not get as much appreciation as it deserves, I remember seeing the commercial and instantly begged my mom to go down to toys r us and my first one was dhb chrome zephyr after it was all put together it was so awesome
I had some of these as a kid and remember enjoying the show quite a bit. Specifically a vivid memory of a kid who designed a game type of B-Daman that needed to be hit 3 times instead of a single one.
I have 2 big Ziplock bags full of B-Daman parts and marbles. I had the playset with the puck and targets. I watched the anime on YTV. I even had the B-Daman video game for the Game Boy Advance. Needless to say, I was a big fan of B-Daman growing up.
B-Daman was one of my most beloved toys back when i was young, i only had one launcher and the bottle loader, but i spent days and nights shooting the 20-30 beads into a tablecloth with no reason, and for me, the best part, was to build the toy by myself, i mean, when i was a kid, all the toys (except for LEGO) they came pre built, just break open the box and that was it, go and play. B-Daman, added two of the functions i was craving so bad: The pew-pew and the DiY, so this little guy (a White knight with wings) pushed all the buttons at the same time. I used it until it broke due to continuous play
Omg, thank you so much for reviewing these funky fellas. I genuinely love this series as it helps me with my adhd and i just love messing with them. Been a fan of it since well.. 2014? Its hard to remember. Keep up the great work :)
He said on another comment that he didn’t have much time to talk about it on the script for part 2 but if we like the video’s a lot he might make a video on it
I remember back in 2010 ish times buying a B-Daman because of the anime. It was... interesting to say the least. I only had one and never bought any attachments. There was one time in a mall where they held a B daman... event(?) where you could compete with others with your B daman. It was fun... If I brought mine. That was the last time they held that event
Hehehehehe, it seems like you're on a quest to play and understand every anime sold franchise involving battling, and I am so here for it lol. Glad you finally got to B-Daman! Crossfire is my favorite so I CAN'T WAIT FOR PART 2 OAO!
I recently got back in collecting B-Daman and I was really surprised in how many people are still collecting these guys. I still got my origial Knight Cavalry I got way back 2005.
Me and a friend were the only ones who had B-damans in elementary school so during breaks we would go to like an underground storage room and play against each other with the rest of the boys from our class watching. But I was still too poor to get any of the shooting galleries or additional ball holders.
Spinmaster was on the right track, but fumbled pretty hard on the card game in balancing. Now they're going down the "MOAR PLASTIC" route that ended Bakugan the first time.
when I was a kid, I remember I got a bomber man b Damian DVD box set when I was still in hong kong. really liked the series as a kid but soon moved to the uk and didnt recognize the b daman fight toys as the same thing. I never even realised until like 2014 when I first saw crossfire and got semi invested into it
8:50 theres some scuffed mod that you can actually do with this to fire the marbles as twice as hard, by Cutting two pieces from the Sprues to an "L" shape, putting them in the holes of the Hold parts, and pushing those Hold parts forwards as it tightens the entrance, those two sprue bits holding the parts from popping out altogether, so essentially you now have pre-squeezed b-daman that can fire a satisfyingly strong shots.
I missed out on most of the Cross Fight B daman toys as kid when these were still around but luckily i managed to find some Nowadays Cap Kakumei Bottleman kind made up for that and I dont wanna miss out on this ehe
Battle B-Daman caught on pretty well here in Southern Ontario when the show first aired and stuck around for a while, I remember a lot of kids had at least one. We'd bring them with us for recess and after school programs and just make little games to play with them, the default being "just try to hit each other's bdaman with marbles". That's what characters did most often in the show after all. Or we'd set up little arenas and challenges using whatever stuff was lying around. Rocks, pencils, erasers, etc. Stuff like "try to hit these specific things", etc. We'd make our own fun with them. I think B-Daman lasted as long as it did because of it's simplicity. Keep in mind the anime aired here in Canada not long after Beyblade. With beyblades, any large bowl or any pit in the ground could become a battleground. Meanwhile with bdaman, all you need is the toy itself, some marbles (which everyone had) and a tabletop. And if you or someone you knew had the tournament set, great. That's even more stuff you can use.
Whoa this entire video hit a nostalgia itch that I haven't remembered in a long time. It pretty popular in Hong Kong and was even dubbed in Cantonese. I remember having a couple of models (only) they were freaking awesome!
B-da-man's are basically just Robot Marble Guns. Used to play a lot with my lil sis with them when I was little (or atleast, some chinese knock offs of B-daman). Doe instead of only shooting at each other's robot gun, we made this game where we took these plastic soldier figures of different colors which were placed as armies the opposing player had to shoot down. It was fun.
I will never forget my last b-dman. It had a function in where I kid you not. You can load in a shotgun like shell which held 2 marbles and allowed you to launch both at once, with the shell needing to be ejected after use. Again. A shotgun like b-dman, where you used shells that needed to be ejected after use.
They're super easy to 3D print these days, so if you're ever interested you can look into it, maybe even design your own. They're simple and fun toys overall, and there are so many variants from super and crash that aren't even covered in this video. Look into Burning Atlas, Nautilus Poseidon, and Gatling Hades if you want to be blown away by the Crazy designs.
Man, I really missed this toys again. . . I have some units and field setup for playing Direct Hit Battle at home, but since I work in another place, I cannot play it anymore, except when I get days off and go home. I still tried to play it together with my cousins. It's really interesting.
I dont know if anyone did this, but i used to modify my battle Bdaman I put a piece of paper on the side of the marble holder hence the increased tension which equals to much stronger shooter so sometimes the triangle thing will be destroyed, just like the good old days of a full metal beyblade our Bdaman becomes a weapon.
I remember the local toy store here hosting a bdaman battle event just before it went out of trend. Also I realized that I've played bomberman as a kid and had those marble bdaman toys too, so little did I know that I was unintentionally following this franchise since its beginnings.
thank god there's a safer version of B Daman, the Bottleman the main gimmick are remains the same, but the the bullet is now using a bottle instead of glass marbles to increase the safety
You've just awakened some pretty old forgotten memories for me. I remember having a BDaman but i never met anyone who also had one so i never got to see them in action.
Oh my god I thought B-Daman was a fever dream I had, I loved these fuckin things. It helped that I was massively into model kits from a very young age.
I remember B-Daman very fondly. Loved the anime show when it was on air on Cartoon Network in Sweden. I did have two of the toys: the red one that looks like a dragon and some silver-white one that my friend gave me
i can’t remember when i first encountered bdaman. i think it was the first round in north america, but i don’t remember it being a model kit. most distinctly i remember having one toy and thinking oh! this looks really cool! and having no idea what to do with it beyond making it go shooty.
man this was straight from the depths of my childhood. i can’t remember if i actually had one of these or if i just wanted them really bad but i think i also remember the show airing before school in the morning.
I FREAKEN REMEMBER THESE, I never got one but I know I saw them at a Mexican flee market 12 years ago, and I was defiantly thinking it was a Chinese knock off of Bomberman even though it was Bomberman, how time fly's
5 year old me learned how to build and play bdaman from my brother and cousins. Now im building gundam because i just love putting the plastics pieces together
We used to mod them by jamming paper clips on the outside of the holder or add super glue. it was really hard to shoot them then. but we actually got anime velocity. it was dope. bruised and broken some fingers, exploded some b-daman but it was a hoot!
No way, this just had to come out within the same week I started searching around to recover my B-Daman collection that's just sitting in storage somewhere from my childhood. There's an expansion/upgrade series that adds cartridges which shoot multiple marbles at once, and also a pistol grip attachment

I actually played the medabots GBA game. Didn't know it actually had toys.
Thank you for talking about this series, it’s so good and does not get as much appreciation as it deserves, I remember seeing the commercial and instantly begged my mom to go down to toys r us and my first one was dhb chrome zephyr after it was all put together it was so awesome
B-daman had soo much potential.
Jett, you've gotta check out and possibly cover Crash B-Daman, especially considering your joke at 3:25
B-Daman was one of my most beloved toys back when i was young, i only had one launcher and the bottle loader, but i spent days and nights shooting the 20-30 beads into a tablecloth with no reason, and for me, the best part, was to build the toy by myself, i mean, when i was a kid, all the toys (except for LEGO) they came pre built, just break open the box and that was it, go and play. B-Daman, added two of the functions i was craving so bad: The pew-pew and the DiY, so this little guy (a White knight with wings) pushed all the buttons at the same time. I used it until it broke due to continuous play
HHHHOOOOLLLYYYY SHHHITTTT what a fken throwback. This was the shit when I was a child in Korea.
Also the anime ran in the Jetix block of Toon Disney
Omg, thank you so much for reviewing these funky fellas. I genuinely love this series as it helps me with my adhd and i just love messing with them. Been a fan of it since well.. 2014? Its hard to remember. Keep up the great work :)
I bought my B-Daman at the end of 2006 and I still have it, it was the dark version of Coblat Blade, I played with it a lot and I loved it.
I literally got a break bomber set on clearance one day and was heartbroken to find out it was cancelled I literally have a can of marbles
So weird I recently been watching old unboxing and reviews from rollout reviews after years of them being gone. How convenient your video came out.
You do know they reimagined B-Daman to shoot Bottle caps instead, right? It's called Cap Kakumei Bottleman
Yeah I remember having one of these. But I never knew what to do with it other than send marbles all over the kitchen floor. 🤣
Never knew it had an anime either.
LOL you're going to like part of the second part in that case
Me and a friend were the only ones who had B-damans in elementary school so during breaks we would go to like an underground storage room and play against each other with the rest of the boys from our class watching. But I was still too poor to get any of the shooting galleries or additional ball holders.
Jett is going to have to change this title when Spinmaster finally ends up admitting they fumbled Bakugan again.
I never even realised until like 2014 when I first saw crossfire and got semi invested into it
As a 5 year old kid, one of the charm that made me love b daman is the fact that i need to build it
Great video as always! Made me interested in something i didnt even know about!
I had so much of this shit when I was a kid. Made my mum play it with me.
I missed out on most of the Cross Fight B daman toys as kid when these were still around but luckily i managed to find some
Nowadays Cap Kakumei Bottleman kind made up for that and I dont wanna miss out on this ehe
For whatever anime all I remember is the anime and that someone just got fucking killed
..."Stumble Guys"? Really?
I get needing to make money but... really, a sponsorship from a blatant IP ripoff that clearly has no standards?
No way i was trying to remember the name of those yesterday and now this pops in my recommendations!
I loved these so much, freaken had a few of them and me and my brother use to play them with them so much just blasting marbles away
7:39 gives me 90´s vibes, btw can you give me the name of the song please??
Man, I really missed this toys again. . .
I have some units and field setup for playing Direct Hit Battle at home, but since I work in another place, I cannot play it anymore, except when I get days off and go home.
I still tried to play it together with my cousins. It's really interesting.
Genuinely can't wait for the crossfire video since that (and beyblade metal fusion) are what I grew up with
I dont know if anyone did this, but i used to modify my battle Bdaman I put a piece of paper on the side of the marble holder hence the increased tension which equals to much stronger shooter so sometimes the triangle thing will be destroyed, just like the good old days of a full metal beyblade our Bdaman becomes a weapon.
I remember the local toy store here hosting a bdaman battle event just before it went out of trend. Also I realized that I've played bomberman as a kid and had those marble bdaman toys too, so little did I know that I was unintentionally following this franchise since its beginnings.
I just hope in part 2 you also talk about crash b-daman and the new bottleman
thank god there's a safer version of B Daman, the Bottleman the main gimmick are remains the same, but the the bullet is now using a bottle instead of glass marbles to increase the safety
Something i would recommend to do in future what happen to tenkai knights or why redakai failed.
You've just awakened some pretty old forgotten memories for me.
I remember having a BDaman but i never met anyone who also had one so i never got to see them in action.
I remember having one of these in Mexico as a kid, and now 17 years later I’m in love with Gunpla.
Oh my god I thought B-Daman was a fever dream I had, I loved these fuckin things. It helped that I was massively into model kits from a very young age.
ultra BASED at 9:48 ahahah, wasn't expecting a video about little plastic toys to have that type of dialectical materialism sprinkled in
I remember B-Daman very fondly. Loved the anime show when it was on air on Cartoon Network in Sweden. I did have two of the toys: the red one that looks like a dragon and some silver-white one that my friend gave me
I still have the GBA games and a bunch of the launchers.
But nobody's bothered to ask "HOW" is B-Daman?
i can’t remember when i first encountered bdaman. i think it was the first round in north america, but i don’t remember it being a model kit. most distinctly i remember having one toy and thinking oh! this looks really cool! and having no idea what to do with it beyond making it go shooty.
man this was straight from the depths of my childhood. i can’t remember if i actually had one of these or if i just wanted them really bad but i think i also remember the show airing before school in the morning.
I have that one to the left at 12:10. Glad to see Knight Cavalry kicking some B-Dass at 12:18.
I also want to point out Crash B-Daman, slightly older than Battle B-Daman where the figures were literally just guns
Me, the probably only B-Daman Crossfire fan:Welp, this might be the death of me.
I'm still collecting them! including the Bottleman. we had mini Bottleman tournament at our locals here every month or so, can't wait for part2!
Yo that’s crazy to hear. I figured there were collectors but I didn’t think anyone would have a group to any extent!
@@JettKuso we have some community here in Asia. I heard it's still a lively scene in Taiwan and Japan. (they do custom 3d printed b-daman)
Wait just seen the title of chapter one... IS THIS A GUNBUSTER REFERENCE ???
Yeh
