I just got a second-hand X-T1 that had this issue but I found another way to fix it. It doesn't involve cutting or gluing at all. I opened the warped door and heat it up with a blow dryer with a concentrator attachment. The blow dryer is on "hot." It's best to aim at the inside part of the door from 2-3 inches away. Try not to get any of the heat on the rest of the camera. Do not this for no more than 10 seconds at a time. I then turned off the blowdryer and bent the bow the opposite direction, gently but firmly, and held it that way until it cools. Once it cools, you should be able to close the door properly. If not, repeat the above steps. I did it probably three times.
I had the same issue. I fixed mine by simply folding the door in half (across it's longest dimension), thereby purposely flexing the rubber door in half and forcing the door to lay flat. Took all of 10 seconds to perform and the door does not bow out one bit anymore. Be careful to not stress the door on the hinges when (or if) you try this, but it absolutely fixed mine. Just thought to share.
+Woody O'Neal nods head......... i assume after a while, that your fix might "undo" itself..... but lets see ehh :) nikon doors do the same stuff,........a "Stretched RUBBER" Hahaahahhahah
Honestly, I’m beyond thankful for you, man. You do so much for the community with your RUclips content. Here it is, 2019, and I’ve just picked up an X-T1 for cheap, cheap, cheap, because it’s got a little warping to the door and *barely* loose rubber to a couple spots, and you’ve got videos with fixes for both. Forever grateful. Go Fuji!
I have a better solution for this problem. The door is too long after the stretching and it must get a bit shorter to fit. I cut the door in half and take about 2mm off from the middle. After this I just clued it back together. I did not even have to remove the door, it can be done quickly. It came really straight and fits like a glove.
this is exactly what i wanted to know before my purchase,,,,,,,,,, much appreciated! if i purchase an extra door is it easy to install or should the camera be sent to fuji?
+Kyle Stevens right now getting parts is a bitch and sending it to Fuji is the only recourse i know of rather than doing it yourself with this fix but Nikon RUBBER doors have this SAME issue........it gets worn and then WARPS,...
Hey Theoria, Thanks for your X-T1 videos; these have been very informative. I just have one question here though. Will JB Weld attach well to the rubber surface of the accessory door? I've never used this epoxy before, but if it works, I would really like to give it a shot in order to fix the accessory door on my X-T1.
