In the before times I would sit with my typewriters in the mall and write short stories and poetry. There were always lots of people who had never seen a typewriter before or who hadn't seen one in 30 years. People would stop to talk to me about my typewriters and sometimes I would give them my poetry.
Well finally! At about 5:45 you can see my machine, a very modest Royal Mercury from around 1971. (Well that's not MY machine, but I have the same model.) I always look for my Mercury on your videos, and this is the first time I spotted one, lol.
Oh no, you were taping me lolol. Thanks for the shoutout! Loved the video! Antique gold is a fabulous name for a color, and a fabulous color for a machine.
Love my typewriters! Use them to type daily journal, poems...something about that tap..tap..tap sound really feeds my creativity...that machine is my partner in writing....😃
This is EVERYTHING!!! I LOVE the font the Safari creates!!! Reminds me a little bit of the "Vimala Font"!!! I actually WANT ONE! Yes, I would LOVE to find me one of those machines and be able to USE it... had no idea such a thing existed! My urge to start looking for a typewriter this fall had been turned up another notch... [prays there isn't a 20 machine end result once initiated... LMAO] What a wonderful idea to trade machines with another person, to experience something new, re-home a machine to someone looking forward to receiving it, and to keep collecting without increasing the total number in your herd lol! Absolutely lovely footage... LOVE the vlog style combined with the sit down videos, DEFINITELY adds action and interest to your uploads! Please consider keeping this style going, love it! Love the whole TRAIN experience... the stations, the ride... I haven't been on a train in YEARS or at a train station... such a VIBE! You have a very cool mom too! And WHY did I almost start to cry when you were describing taking your typewriter out of its case and showing it to peoplw who had never seen one??!? Awesome work Sarah, simply awesome. And you WILL earn income from this meaningful role of yours, no doubt about... "don't quit" is all you have to do! 😊❤👍
Thank you so much- I can't express how meaningful the positive feedback from you has meant to me on these! I'll definitely be including more vlog footage on some videos. Trains are the way to travel with a typewriter- super easy and safe to transport my machines back and forth. Thank you again for watching!
@@JustMyTypewriter And thank YOU for posting Sarah! I kinda also got a little misty eyed because we used to have 3 railway systems in my city when I was a toddler, and an actual train station... My dad's aunt would take the train in to town visit... my mother and I would go pick her up, and I brought a jumbo heavy duty balloon filled with rice and would shake it around while standing in the "train deck"(?) area to signal her from the train window that her ride was here waiting lol We no longer have a train station, we only have one railway for freight only, my dad's aunt has since passed away, and my dad is very old now... ok NOW I'm sobbing 😭 Watching your uploads brings me back to a simpler time that was full of joy and happiness, and I am very grateful for your work... it gives all of us a delightful and unexpected ESCAPE that we didn't even realize how much we needed Thanks again, SO MUCH 😊❤👍 [😭]
What a great video! Lucas is amazing, glad you got to meet him. Question..did you like traveling by train? Love the safari. I have one in pottery blue, but not script😲.I have 2 script machines, both brothers. Thanks again for the video,it was fun to tag along😉
This looks so fun. I hope everyone had an amazing time. It’s not easy organising such an event let alone in a pandemic. I would love to do the same in the UK - you have a open invitation to be a guest speaker here too! Congratulations on your new Typewriter: such a retro beauty. Was the Royal P in the wood effect a Vogue typeface?
Hi SARAH, FYI... Did you know that you were acknowledged by another "TYPEOSPHERE" luminary in one of his videos? ie.Mr.Joe Van Cleave. If you HAVEN'T seen his "VLOG" yet I highly recommend it. He's based out in the SOUTHWEST, in New Mexico I believe? He's an engineer by trade who literally dissects the inner workings of various TYPEWRITERS of all sorts and explains them to us "civilians" in a way WE can actually understand. YOUR videos are done in a similar manner which makes them also wonderfully easy to fathom. (As we get, achem, "older", that last fact is MUCH appreciated!!!) Always look forward to your latest video on the much beloved "CLICKETY CLACKERS"! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK YOUNG LADY AND... THANK YOU! ############################
I would to go to an event like this. Going to see if there is anything in the Philadelphia area. I am a bit sad you gave away your SM9 even though that Royal looks really cool.
I was too- but it's got a really good home! When I've got so many typewriters, it's hard to use them regularly, so I'm glad it's getting used consistently! Also- there is a typewriter shop in Philly: Philly Typewriter
Hey Sarah! Where did you find a pen pal? I was looking online to find one, but I only found email pals. Of course I was interested in typing my notes. I have two script typewriters. The very first typewriter I bought is a 1949 Smith Corona Sterling which I've since learned has vertical script. I found it at an estate sale for $40 (cheap in Texas). I was surprised it was cursive. It was DIRTY and needed a couple of minor repairs (shift lock and margin release), but now she's in perfect condition. Her name is Jane. :) She has pica size font My other script one is a 1963 Hermes 3000, elite size. Glad you have a script typewriter. They are fun. My husband asks me how many typewriters I need. I respond that you have more than twenty, so I clearly haven't acquired too many at thirteen. Love your videos and love using your growing collection as an excuse as to why I get to buy more typewriters. 😉
I can't find anything either! I do know the TA stands for Triumph-Adler which was under Royal for a while. They licensed designs off of other manufacturers. I have a Royal branded Safari II made by Nakajima in a similar fashion for Royal and mine is from the 80s. My bet is it's based on a Japanese brand typewriter and licensed for Royal somewhere in the 70s-80s
I really liked the music in the train vlog section. Very fun and well put together video, I bet the editing took forever. I think you came home with a really awesome typewriter, but sadly, you lost an awesome one too. Ah well. I wish we had events like this in Sydney,... perhaps one day! Also : Aren't you earning mega-bucks from your youtube ad revenue? No? Seriously, though, at what point (subs or views) does it become ok money?
I loved my SM9, but I know Glenn will take good care of it! I'm all about trying as many kinds of typewriters as possible so rotating them out is a really great way to do that! As for the money question- No I don't make any money from RUclips. I don't meet the qualifications to make revenue from anything. I have to achieve 1000 watch hours to become monetizable and even then, the weekly view count I get is not enough to support more than a few dollars of ad revenue a month. I also just really love doing it- so my goal is just to keep making more and more videos!
I'd love to organize a type-in for my small town of 1500 in a really empty part of North Dakota. What suggestions do you have? I have a handful of typewriters of my own. But how do I get people to come and, more importantly, bring their own typerwiters?
I recommend utilizing the typewriter social media networks- the big typewriter facebook group is a great place to start! I'd also advertise in your type in event that you encourage people to bring their typewriters

It's such a fantastic experience being able to share them with strangers

I did really enjoy the train! I also felt it was a super safe way to travel with a typewriter- especially one as heavy as that SM9!
Looks like you had fun. I hope one day I can go to one of those events and meet you.

I dont think it was- though I should've really checked it! It belonged to the historical society

Wonderful video. Really insightful and just a heartwarming video.
Awesome episode Sarah. I have a imperial safari in blue. I believe royal / imperial somehow cross over somehow? .
I wish I was there!

Hey! There's a typewriter pen pal facebook group- that's where I met some of mine!
(and also it sounds like you need more typewriters...)
I have a Royal TA 204 haven't been able to find any info can you help

Keep an eye out- I know they were thinking of doing it again!
