Good question. The British lead a global campaign of brutality and have never been held truly accountable but their media is obsessed by what Harry & Meghan are eating. When I heard about Nazi torture methods, I was like 'yup' sounds right. They used that in South Africa and Kenya, way before the Nazis came into the picture. It makes me really bitter how so many people died all over the world, for so long at the hands of the British military. You and I should never forget it.

Amazing! I accidentally came across this video half a year ago and fell down the rabbit hole. I’m from Russia and before this video I didn’t really understand what kind of conflict this was and why are there "two Irelands" on the map. I have now read four books on the topic, including memoirs by both interviewers. I've watched dozens of hours of other interviews, including incredible interview with Seamus Kearney on John English channel. I watched documentaries, listened to Irish rebel songs. Thank you! And for such a monstrous terrorist organisation their bomb kill count was beaten by the first bomb planted by a bunch of breakaway renegades, so you can't exactly say their goal was to murder all around them either. First of all , like the Real IRA found out very quickly, bombs like that are not popular, second of all, the British State mourned money a lot more than it did it's dead citizens, the Canary Wharf bombing (one fatality of a reporter who ran up close) and the economic damage it caused was one of the big reasons for the hardline British to be supporters all of a sudden, make no mistake
Margaret Thatchers aide on NI said the only time she gave two shots about Ulster or anybody in it was when a soldier died, hence it was best to Ulsterise it with the UDR, but she cared so little that she got the UDR(British Army unit) and UVF(the "terrorist organisation" controlled by British intelligence) mixed up in a memo
Don't get me wrong, some of their atrocities were just that, atrocities, enniskillen, no justification for that, Shankill bomb , may have been going for C Company, but no way you weren't going to massacre civilians, apparently the original plan was an M60 on the back of a truck to open fire on the top floor

. i just watched some old documentaries made at the time and the IRA were so disgusting. the Irish hate them because they know they want power over Ireland. Did you know the Irish military would do patrols searching for IRA members with the help of the British searching on the other side of the border. they hate them. What I learned was that both protestants AND Catholics wanted actually welcomed the British and obviously the same on the opposite side. but it just shows that when the reffurendums are done and the majority of people vote to stay part of the UK its not just colonial protestants, but actually all sorts of NORTHERN IRISH people from protestants to Catholics. Also in the documentary it shows the IRA shooting a russian RPG at a car and missing, hitting the house behind it.Then the IRA guy throws a bloody grenade into a crowd of civilians in the street. fckn crazy.

The yellow text isn't just shotty, it's factually incorrect at times. 2:27 is not the correct definition of 'Loyalist' (to whom does this channel believe loyalists were loyal to if not king and kingdom?); and the 8:45 description of the Omagh bombing fails to notate that it was not carried out by the IRA to which these two men belonged. These two men belonged to the Provisional IRA (PIRA). PIRA was the primary (overwhelmingly so) Irish Republican paramiliatary of the Troubles (1969-1998). The 'Real IRA' (RIRA) was a splinter organization formed after the 1998 Good Friday Accord (meaning post Troubles) by a minority of dissenting former PIRA members. RIRA was responsible for Omagh, not PIRA. That is a monumental distinction.
Lastly, when it comes to civilian deaths (discussed from 8:54 forward), Troubles era paramilitary killings break down as follows:
Irish Republican Paramilitaries - 2,057 killings, 722 of them civilian (which equates to a 35% civilian casualty rate).
Loyalist Paramilitaries - 1,027 killings, 878 of them civilian (which equates to an 85% civilian casualty rate).
I realize these acronyms and groups can start to blend, especially for outsiders, but your channel has 2.53 MILLION subscribers, so no excuses, get it together.

Just to point out a serious error in the subtitles - Loyalist are in no way in favour of N.Ireland leaving the UK . Loyalism is from the same branch of Unionism and they are very much aligned to the idea of N.Ireland being part of the UK. As the name suggests they are 'Loyal to the crown' . Unionist & Loyalist are terms used to denote persons from N.Ireland wedded to the idea that N.Ireland is and should be part of the UK. They almost exclusively come from a Protestant heritage. Juxtapose Nationalist or Republican are terms used to denote persons who identify as Irish and believe that N.Ireland is a part of Ireland and should in the future become part of a unified Ireland. They almost exclusively come from a catholic heritage. There are of course people there who are apolitical and neither identify one way or the other or both. They would see themselves regardless of background as Northern Irish , which is a unique and authentic identity in itself.

You fail to mention that the majority of Catholics (more than 50%) in Northern Ireland have consistently poled as being in favour of remaining part of the UK. A clear minority, only 30% of Catholics, were in favour of a "united ireland". Regarding the protestant population 90% in northern Ireland wished to remain as part of the Union with the UK. So why are you so adamant to enforce violently the wish of a minority on the majority?. Isn't such thinking actually much more in line with Putin rather than fighting for the rights and wishes of the majority of people in the country? You are effectively supporting the right to "take by military force" against the wishes of the population, yet at the same time you decry (rightly) that same idealogy elsewhere.

Two films that jump to mond that give you some insight into that time are "in the name of the father" and "bloody Sunday" there's also a VERY in depth documentary by the BBC called something like the secrets of the troubles you can find here on RUclips if you're interested in learning more.

The IRA were at war with the Brtitish - it was a civil war, which is largely ignored in British media and history. A very sad reality that propaganda is alive and well in London media. But in saying that, the Provos (IRA nickname) weren't intent on killing civilian targets. They were intent on bombing strategic targets in order to obtain political leverage - just like the UK would do in Iraq, Ireland, etc. Its a fairly common practice.
The sad thing is that many people were killed. The other sad part about it is that many people in Britain didn't like it when it was done to them, but when their own Army was off butchering others - they are hailed as heroes. Sometimes the truth is in the middle on both sides.

I think Scappatichi was their downfall. Head of IRA security was an informer. He had penetrated their organisation in the highest of ranks.

      @davenic9781 4 месяца назад

As John correctly states elsewhere, the Good Friday Agreement was a deal done between the UK and Irish governments with the Shinners and nutty Loyalists kept within earshot. That's about it.
After Ruairí Ó Brádaigh and Dáithí Ó Conaill power and influence had been eroded with Sinn Fein, British military intelligence knew that Adams, McGuiness and co would be likely to do a deal with the Brits further on down the line. Gerry always wanted a career in politics anyway 😂 and McGuiness was militarily incompetent, despite his so called "ive done the business" persona.
This is why both Adams and McGuiness never did any real jail time. They were more useful to the British establishment OUT of prison, not in it. Once in jail, an PIRA member loses their rank and so, if that were to take place, Brit military intelligence would then be faced with a possible unknown hawk taking their place and then running the show their way. That simply wouldnt be tolerated and allowed. So, it served a purpose for McGuinness and Adams to be out and in place, where they were designed to be!
Another case in point, Eddie Carmichael was the Belfast Brigade OC of PIRA in the early 80s. He was standing up to Adams and didnt agree with how the movement was being run and funds diverted away from military operations and towards Gerry standing as an MP and so when he rocked the boat too much, his services to the movement were dispensed with (it was either leave or get shot dead basically). This is the Belfast Brigade OC we're talking about here. One of the biggest and influential brigade areas.

It's actually not, the IRA were acutely aware of the propaganda war against the British, and, for the most part, called in bomb warnings when targeting infrastructure. That's not to say they didn't kill civilians, they did, the same with any belligerent in a war scenario.
under 50% of their victims were civilians, 89% of loyalists were, and the British army themselves had a unit called the MRF who also actively targeted civilians.

She was an absolute maniac. To see the Northern English and Welsh towns and cities who’s industries she destroyed and then flooded with hard drugs to stop the rioting, now voting Tory is very sad. And the way she manipulated the entire media focus of the Troubles so that British people had no idea what was really going on is so frightening looking back. Add to that the thousands of men in their teens and 20s that died of AIDS with nurses in Hazmat suits pushing a tray under their door as they died all alone, with her and Reagan controlling the narrative and delaying proper research and information- the needless war in the Falklands - yes, that woman died with so much blood on her hands. When Sam Millar said at the end: 'I would do it again' [and] 'for the freedom struggle of Ireland' they might be the most patriotic tears that have ever fallen down my face. Franz Fanon was right when he said that colonialism and oppression ARE inherently: violence. The (yes even violent) fight for freedom and recognition of equal human rights for oppressed communities cannot be morally compared to state perpetrated violence. Without for a second trying to negate or dismiss the human cost of IRA related civilian casualties, just listening to these two men you can see the fallacy of the British rhetoric. There's no mythical 'terrorism' intent here. There's no hatred. Notice the distinct LACK of of valid arguments to disagree with their rationale. The British shot and murdered civil rights protestors and innocent people for the crime of existing in catholic estates. They even murdered a priest tending to a victim while waving a white napkin. . The stats show that the vast vast vast majority of civilian deaths during the Northern Ireland civil war (the Troubles) were Catholics killed by the British army, police or Unionist militias (who were thugs backed up by a police force and a fucking army for god's sake). They blocked food deliveries to punish catholic communities. They imprisoned anyone they wanted without charge. The fact that the British public can still indulge in the fantasy of "British values" is a testament to the corrupt faux-democracy in the UK propped up by an establishment adjacent media overwhelmingly controlled by rich, privately educated pro-colonial, classist toffs. These men are just two examples of a mountainous volume of raw human self-sacrifice that echoes throughout centuries and across continents in the face of an unyielding, unapologetic British colonial machine.

And did the British armed forces have a mandate from the British public to murder the literally millions of people across the globe that have died in the name of 'British Empire' through brutal colonisation and exploitation? Considering the sycophantic way the royal family is still fawned over and worshiped whenever they sneeze, marry someone, have a baby etc it certainly seems so... The British establishment nor armed forces had a mandate from anyone to colonise Ireland let alone murder Irish citizens for literally 100s of years, breach human rights and torture prisoners that they held without charge.... but I don't see you pointing that out. The fundamental difference between the inherent violence of British oppression and the violence of the IRA for example (and yes it's all violence, and all violence is repugnant) is that the Irish were fighting for freedom of oppression and the British government, true to form, pretended they were the victims.
