Quantum Edge Power Chair -- Charger Won't Charge Batteries. How to remove batteries and put a charge on them to allow the charger to start working again.
God bless you for this! I was able to lift the tilt using your technique with a 12V truck battery and a pair of wires stripped at the end. Worked perfect! Now I’m trying to revive these old batteries.
Thanks very much Chris. My brother's chair is still working on those same batteries. Hopefully yours will hold a charge and give good service for a long time Calvin
THANK YOU! We have the same chair. My wife hates it, I don't know why, she loves her old chair, and keeps using it. I just keep repairing the old Jazzy. The Quantum Edge sat for a few months, now the new batteries are dead. I couldn't even figure out how to get to them, till I watched your video. Thank You very much. I plan on using it after knee surgery, then decide what to do with it.
Just saved us $500 for a service tech to come out and troubleshoot the unit. Crazy that they would ask for $500just to come out. Fixed it for free. Thank you.
God bless you for being a decent Brother. God bless your Brother, I wish him well. I have ms, and my Brother and a Friend of mine just procured me one of these chairs. We know the batteries have to be replaced, they're dead. I haven't seen the chair yet but I'm thankful to them for getting it. Tske care and be of good courage! Thumbs up video ~John
Thanks for watching. I just talked to my brother this morning and he is still safe from the virus. Thanks for the prayers. Have a blessed week and stay safe, Calvin and Marie
Thank you for explaining that the correct charger for the deep cycle batteries had a built in safety feature and that they would not charge the low batteries. Also it is important to disconnect the trickle charger and let the correct charger finish the job. This is something that is not generally understood and is a basic fundamental that must be explained when dealing with deep cycle batteries.
Thank you for posting this video! I just recently got this chair donated and trying to do what you did. However the tilt cable connector has 6 prongs instead of 2. How do I go about connecting that to the manual battery charger?
Thanks for watching. I'm not familiar with that connector. I would guess that it controls the tilt and maybe and up/down motor or something else. It would take a couple of trial by error attempts to connect the voltage for just a second to see if it tilts upward. If you can find a model number you might be able to find the service manual online for it. Good luck with your chair. Calvin and Marie
Thank you I am have a Quantum and I've had several troubles with it and now this point in our silly world we have very few people that can fix them so this was very helpful thank you have a great day bless you love and Christ AJ and Diana

I spent many weekends helping family and friends with repairs around their house. Hope that you are doing good today. I'm so glad to be feeling better. Calvin and Marie
Those are deep cycle gel batteries and should be topped up daily. They do only last a couple years though and those 22NF are definitely not the cheapest batts to replace. Glad you got your bro back up and running.
Thank you so much for making this video. I have the same problem. How did you know which of the tilt connectors was positive and negative to get the tilt working? I don't want to hook it up reversed and fry something.
Thanks for watching. I miss read your comment. On the tilt adjustment just touch the wire to it. One direction will make it go up and the other direction will make it go down. It has been a long time since I did that but his chair is still running on the same batteries. I hope this helps. Good luck with yours. Calvin
@@SouthernCountryLiving Thank you Calvin, well that seems perfectly logical. Good to know you didn't have to buy new batteries. I wish you and your brother well. Thanks so much for the quick response. Royce
Need to fix my aunt’s chair but confused on the tilt. How do I know where to put the positive and negative battery connectors to the tilt cord with the nails? I really don’t want to fry the chair.
Thanks for watching. When I did this one, I connected the ground to one side and then I touched the positive to the other one. If it goes in the wrong direction, then switch the wires and it will go the direction that you want. Hope that helps you. It's been a long time since I did that for his chair and it is still running on the same batteries. Have a fantastic week, Calvin and Marie
Did you charge one battery at a time or connect to the factory battery cable that hooked to the battery while it in the chair/ the chair operates on 24 volts, and it looks like you're using a 12 volt charger.
Thanks for watching. I used a regular car battery charger and a 12 volt power supply at the same time. If you just use the battery charger you would have to charge them one at a time. This was over 2 years ago so it's hard for me to remember the exact details. I only had to charge them for a few minutes and the chair charger started working. His chair is still running on the same batteries with no further problems. Good luck with your project, Calvin
Quantum 4Front here, same method...The battery compartment is too tight, so I tie a shoelace around each battery or Velcro strap to pull those suckers out...The Numotion tech slammed those batteries in there last time so hard that not even my improvised shoelace pull cord would work...Now the new batteries are going dead, so I have to call and hope they replace them, under warranty of course...Pro tip, you don't have to use the 75ah batteries...You can use the 55ah batteries that the Jazzy 614hd takes...I know because I did it out of frustration...It goes the same number of miles...Lighter weight...
Can you do that to any electric wheelchair as long as its quantum what is still utilize and charge my batteries up they've been down 7 months I'm at a nursing home also
The chair my father used has set in my house unused for the last 8 years. At first both batteries were under one volt. I tried to charge them and got one battery up to 11 volts but the other battery to only 6 volts. How far do the batteries have to be charged until the small charger that came with the chair works?
Thanks for watching. I don't remember the exact voltage required but for some reason I think it was about 10 volts. I was expecting to have to buy new batteries for his chair so I was glad that I could get them charged back up. His chair is still running with the same batteries. Good luck with yours. Calvin
@@SouthernCountryLiving I have several times charged the batteries all day but only got up to about 7 volts. Is it possible that I need a stronger battery charger? I bought a Stanley Fatmax 8 amp charger. Today I measured the voltage as I was charging, and the multimeter read 13 volts. Any suggestions?
@@SouthernCountryLivingsame question - how do I tilt the chair back once the battery is connected via nails to the tilt cord? Did you use the controller?
Pride Mobility/Quantum send with the power wheelchair a tilt jumper cable w/ an Up/Down switch. Plug into the cable marked Tilt, use alligator clips on an external 12v battery and you press the button to tilt.
@@SouthernCountryLiving That's a shame. Every one we've sold came with the jumper. I ordered one and have it in my tool kit. Yes, I service complex rehab wheelchairs.
My lo has an older 2.0 with the i level and was good for 10 to 15 miles . Her newest 1 of a year drains the batteries in max 2 miles. Its a shame theese companies do not stand behind there products with good warranties . But I'd like to ask why a charger would have to even go into a safety feature . That makes no sense at all . If a regular charger 12v I assume does thw job why wouldn't the manufacturers?
Yes, these new ones aren't as good but nothing is now days. The charger is designed to cut off if the batteries are bad so that it doesn't start a fire from trying to charge a bad battery. When I connect a regular charger I'm supposed to monitor it in case of a problem. On the chairs most of the time the charger is connected and left connected all night long. It would be a terrible situation if a fire started. The charger reads the battery voltage and if it is very low it thinks that the battery is dead and won't start charging. His chair continued to work with these batteries. Several months ago his health deteriorated and the nursing home will not allow him to use the power chair right now. Thanks for your question, Calvin
the story of rechargeable batteries they look like standard lead acid batteries so the question is why have the batteries discharged so much that the standard charger wouldnt charge them could this happen again? *🎅🔍viewed fully✅ support to each other🔎🎭✅ you got a like 👍🇦🇺👍🎄*
Thanks for watching, that is a good question. The batteries are sealed batteries for safety reasons and we think that someone left the chair on when he was transported to the hospital for about five days. It could happen again, but hopefully it won't. The chair needs an automatic shut down function if it is not used for a length of time. Thanks for being observant and commenting. Have a great weekend... Calvin
I used a regular car battery charger. You can buy them at Walmart or any auto parts store. The trick is getting to the old chair batteries to recharge them. That is why I rigged the nails in the plug going to the lift motor to get it to raise up so I could access the batteries in the bottom of the chair. Good luck with your project. Calvin

Most new chargers have this, they are called smart chargers, not so smart. They need a by-pass, now that would be a smart charger.

My guess is that the battery has a couple of dead cells. When batteries sit for a long period of time they will develop bad cells.
When you took the tilt wire out did you use the controller to tilt it back?
