John Powell's easily one of my favourite modern film composers and this was a wonderful interview. The section about the "Solo" score was fascinating and, now that the film is out (and I think his score's fantastic), I'd really love to hear John talk in more detail about it and how he worked with John Williams.
I wish he did more movies. He does one maybe every two years and even then it’s either just a kids movie or something Lowkey. Solo a Star Wars story was him in all his John Powell glory. God I miss him
Kaya, can you please ask this question to composers: Is there a difference in the amount of revisions and recuts on a movie if it's animated or full of special effects? I am curious because watching the making of movies like Star Wars I noticed that all the timings and the cuts look very strict and definied since they start putting together a screenplay, and I guess that's the case because with shots that are so expensive you really don't want to pay for a 30 seconds shot and then using only 10 seconds of it.
I don't think JP has really listened to much Jerry Goldsmith, he certainly didn't only write in the style of Ravel. In fact Ravel is the least of his influences.
George McCarthy, It seems you’re obsessed with commenting on John’s “ego” across our posts without actually knowing John. You couldn’t be more wrong. John is one of the kindest, most generous humans. His dry humor is hilarious and his wit is unmatched. He loves to make people laugh, he hates the spotlight and cherishes the talents of everyone around him. He’s also one of the most successful composers so of course our interviews will focus on his accomplishments.

Very interesting stuff in here :)
Not a huge fan of Powell, but he is on point with today's film music. It's all body and no soul.
Look at that clunky Behringer brick. I nearly got one of those, now I feel like I should have.
The best😍
SOAKIN'!!!

he's got a bit of a posh Hugh Grant accent, lilt and sense of humour!
Massive Ego
