The Jerry Collins one is actually the other way round. He was one of the best professionals in his position in the world at the time, possibly one of the biggest hitters to play. He played in a 2nd team game for a small amateur team in England, then wore that team's socks in front of an crowd of 80000 in respect for them letting him play with them. RIP Jerry

@@keemhdsports1302 That was the most ballsy move in rugby I have ever seen and I'm 70 years old.
Japan had never beaten or tied a tier one nation. With mere seconds on the clock the ref awards a penalty to Japan. All it would take is a very makeable kick to break that drought with a tie.
Japan's captain (not it's coach) said 'Fuck the tie. We want to win.' and so history was made.
      Balls. Big balls.

Some of these are not about skills but moments in History. The two South African world cups are just that, rugby was the whites game, so when Mandela handed over the World Cup it was a big moment for unity, leading to the second moment where a black SA captain lifted the trophy. Unimagined forty years ago. Other big moments like that too.....

    Nice video !
    1. To score a try, you need to press the ball down in the goal zone..
    2. You can 'drop kick' anytime between the poles. The ball has to touch the ground before you kick it.
    3. 4 ways to score :
    - Try = 5 points.
    - If you score a try, you can goal kick = +2 points
    - Drop Kick = 3 points
    - Penalty (goal kick) = 3 points
    4. Jerry Collins (short blond hair), was one of the toughest New Zealand player ever. One of the greatest 'flanker'. He passed away a few years ago in a car accident, as he was still playing. A massive loss.
    5. You can kick the ball at anytime. Anyone can take it. But when you do it when you are behind your team, you become the offline line, so you need to run after the ball because your mates can't play until you're not closer to the ball than them (hard to explain in english 😁).
Rugby is hard to understand. Rules are added/modifed every year.
But when you get the idea, you just enjoy every seconds.
And you have different 'rugbys' (7's, League, Union, ...).
You should watch some tournaments/championships. You have the World Cup, the 6 Nations, or you have the Top 14, the best national league (french).
    Keep on !

Wilko's kick against Australia is called a drop kick and is quite hard to do, and fairly rare to see due to it's difficulty, if you do it, it gives you 3 points. That drop kick meant Australia had no time to come back and England won the World Cup.
With the Freddie Burns one, unlike the NFL, you have to put the ball down across the line and be in control of the ball, if you spill it, it won't count. As a side note, where you put it down means that the conversion (a dead ball kick to between the posts) will be take from that line on the pitch, but you can go as far back or close as you want. So if you place the ball down at either far end, means that the conversion has to happen at a fair angle or a longer distance to open up the angle, whereas if you place it between the posts you can kick right in front of the posts.
The kick along the ground is called a grubber kick and yeah you can do that anywhere, doesn't happen a whole lot as you have to be certain that you/team mate will be able to pick it up, otherwise you've given possession away, and possession in rugby is a fairly big thing.

The defender letting the ball go over the line: if he collects the balls and touches it down behind his own goal line (provided he doesn't carry it over the line himself) it's a restart on his 22metre line (free kick by his own team). If he kicks it out in front of the goal line it's a lineout to the attacking team.

In rugby union if you're offence is dominant enough you could retain the ball no matter the amount of tackles made by the defence(No limit on offensive attempts.)These are referred to as phases eg.1st phase 2nd phase ect. This could go on until the attacking team looses the ball either by a turn over beit in the ruck or maul, intercept, mistake such as a knock on or foward pass ect. or penalty awarded to the defensive team. And in term's of kicking the ball this can be done at any point of possession and retained by an offensive player/team mate of the person kicking the ball as long as when the ball is kicked your team mate that regains the ball was behind the kicker.
If you're in front of the kicker than that is ruled as being offside.

A feild goal kick(Meaning it has to be a drop kick were the ball bounces off the ground before being struck.)Is worth 3 points in Rugby union unlike Rugby league where as it still has to be a drop kick is only worth 1 point & is usually used in clutch tied game's situations or overtime.
A after the try conversion which is kicked off a ground kicking tee & the angle/where the ball is kicked from depends on wherever the try was grounded. (Eg.If the try was grounded under the uprights/goal poles than the kicker can simply kick the conversion from directly in front of them.)
A conversion in rugby union as the same in rugby league ate worth 2 points unlike a penalty conversion kick which is worth 3 points in rugby union but still only 2 in rugby league.

You can kick the ball at anytime. It's why it is Rugby football. This usually leads to a chnage of possession because the other team have defenders in place (I.e. safeties in cover 2) but if they are up in the line fast players will exploit this. Also yeah a try is 5, a conversion is 2 (like an extra point). Any kick from the outfield is 3 points

For the second play, the player who was following the ball was waiting for it to go out so he wouldnt have to try run it back without support. The player who kicked and chased was very lucky that the ball stayed in play and then he touched the ball down in the "end-zone" for a try

  • @ashafar7820
    @ashafar7820 3 года назад

Try is grounding the ball over the try line = 7 points and if you try you get a free kick between the posts, about 15 meters back from where put the ball down over the try line for extra 2 points. If they can they ground the ball near the post for a straight kick
And what call a field goal is 3

  • @jash1281
    @jash1281 3 года назад

You score by kicking for 3 points either using a drop, you drop the ball on the ground then kick it to score, or after a penalty. There's no notion of turnover or change of possession of the ball mandatory for that. Conversion kick after a try will get you 2 points.
You Can freely kick the ball forward for yourself or one of your partner anytime of the game... attend you own risks. There're other reason to kick: occupy the field, going out of bound to get closer to the end zone
You have to put the ball down to effectivly score a try, being in the end zone isn't enough

  • @markaled4939

Oh some things to keep in mind. 80 mins is a match so a lot of these 'best moments' occur after 80 minutes.
There is a rule that the game ends after 80 minutes as soon as the ball goes dead.
So as long as the losing team keeps possession they can keep playing to push for a try/penalty kick.
If the leading team gains possession of the ball they will kick it out of play instantly to end the game.

Rob Howley (black) kicked ahead, if the Toulouse (white) player had touched it and it went into touch (out of play) the team in black would have gained forty metres and got the ball at the line out (Ball is thrown in where it goes out of play). The white player chose to let it go into the in goal area (think touch down zone) because if he touches it down behind this line Toulouse get a kick from their twenty metre line and put the black team back into their own half, meaning they have to start their attack all over again. Rob and any player who was behind him when he kicked is perfectly entitled to chase the ball and in this case he took it out of the other players hands, before he touched it down, and with downward pressure touches the ground in goal scoring a try worth 5 points. His team then have the chance to add a conversion worth a further 2 points. Unlike American football the kicker would have to attempt the kick from a position directly behind where the ball is touched down. If you watch more rugby you will often see players trying to touch down nearer the goal posts so the kick is easier and opposition players will tackle them to prevent this and maker the kick that bit harder. Hope that helps.

The ball must be placed with downward pressure in contact with the ball carrier over the goal line. Crossing the line don't mean shit unless you put it down in a controlled motion. Slamming it down in a throw ain't nothing. Also unlike the us in Australia we have 4 major football codes. A.F.L., Rugby league, rugby union and soccer. When you see our girls play its gonna blow your mind. As we say, take a spoon full of cement and harden up. Get up and get back in it.

The Irish fans weren’t happy because Ireland had never beaten New Zealand. New Zealand scored at the very end and needed the conversion to win. They missed the kick but the referee let them take it again because an Irish player started running too early. Technically it was a correct decision but you never see it actually happen. That’s why the fans weren’t happy. It was incredibly harsh from the referee. Ireland finally beat them a couple of years later in Soldier Field in Chicago. And again the following year in Ireland.
