Applying something I learned in my Biology B. Sc. here 🤓 - cacti are succulents, too. Succulescence means thickening of plant tissue for water storage. So an aloe Vera is as much a succulent as a cactus. I think the differentiation is just bc leaves can also be succulent, but for cacti it's usually only the stem tissue that is succulent and they have thorns, which is a variety of a leaf. That's why botanically speaking, roses don't have thorns (but spikes I guess, I didn't study in English though). The drought tolerance can still differ between succulents bc they can originate from more or less arid environments.
Hope you enjoy this nerdy plant knowledge as much as I do 😂❤

Love the succulent videos! Just a little tip, I would let succulents/cacti sit in their new soil for at least a day before watering them in. I find that they like some time to callous over any root damage that may have occurred during repotting 😊 I hope to see your succulent collection continue to grow, they are so rewarding! 💚

Hi. I live in a similar climate (sunwise at least) than you, I dont have a garden and my cacti dont stretch in winter. You need to keep them completly dry (minus the Rhipsalis) and cold (depending on the sp. it can be down to 0°C and lower). The plant will go dormant and can be kept in the darkest spot of your appartement. Most species need this to actually be happy and bloom profusely, other will eventually die without a cold and dry rest.
Even my Easter/Thanksgiving/Christmas cacti a COMPLETLY dry duting 4-5 months and kept in a cool and dark place.
Same for all my succulents: Stapelia, Cotyledon, Crassula etc... All completly dry and cold for months.

You basically showed it, but It seems that the monkey tail grows more uniformly when the growth is coming directly from the top, so the best way to do it (if all you had was a longer cutting) would be to cut it and let the growth just come from that point over time🤷🏻‍♀️ So even though it's cool to have that really mature piece, I'd probably cut that one all the way closer to the base and let that regrow and leave the other pieces that have already grown from the top! ❤
