I remember watching this movie when I was a kid and I used to run in place pretending I was running along side soldiers in the movie with a bike helmet for a tactical helmet and a nerf gun for a CAR-15. This was the type of movie to turn a kid into a man.
Many times in this scene I've seen the same comment: "Why didn't Eversman just threw the strobe near themselves and told the gunners that the rest was enemy and the strobe was them?". Easy, Eversman didn't knew where the rest of the allies were, the only thing he knew was that the roof in front of them was full of hostiles, that's why he threw the strobe there.
Movie artistic license vs. IRL scenerio. Movie wise, it was a riveting piece of story telling. While in the actual battle, all US elements fighting on the ground lit their strobes and told all incoming air assets, ea. The taskforce's AH-6 Little Birds and later 10th Mountain's AH-1 Cobras, to fuck everything that wasn't flashing.
