    I make good money and somehow ended up $20k in credit card debt due to impulse shopping. If I wanted something I bought it. I was also somewhat of a hoarder so to speak. If 1 of something was good, 10 was better. I finally decided I didn’t want to be a slave to the credit card companies anymore. I created a budget (never had one before) and started living on the bare minimum in order to throw all my money at my debt. I’m currently on track to be paid off by October 2024. I still feel sick thinking about all the interest I paid. I know how daunting it can feel when you just don’t see the progress but just keep chipping away. You can do it!

      It is hard to keep focus, when the pay off seems minimal. Get back on it! Budget every penny, track every penny spent. Maybe its not your spending, but the income that is the problem. Okay. take a deep breath. I am a personal finance nerd and I want you to calculate how much your 9-5 makes a year. If you are close to the amount you owe on student loans a year, you are doing damn good. It is the credit cards that are making you feel like you have a ton of bills, then add on living expenses it feels like a pinch. Instead of thinking like this I cannot do this or that, I deserve this thing or that thing. Think of it as I am going to go to work, eat very simple at home, take care of the pup, and enjoy the simple things in life. A cup of coffee made at home with the cheapest coffee you can find. I am going to enjoy my eggs on toast with a side salad for bunch and dinner is going to be some slow cooked chicken with black beans, veggies over rice. You can do this. And even if you have to work at the grocery store on Sundays to earn a bit more YOU CAN DO THIS. The goal is to stop using the credit cards, pay off of the credit cards then deal with the student loans.

    The way we talk to ourselves matters. When we continue to express regrets for decisions we made, it keeps us stuck in cement. No one can move forward by standing in the past.
    Many of us have a debt story. We know what it takes to get rid of debt and so do you.
    If you're filming in your apartment, you aren't broke. Your apartment looks specious and well furnished and you're warm and comfortable. However, no matter how comfortable your apartment, debt is stressful.
    You have debt because you chose to take it on. It no longer matters what you didn't know, or weren't told; your life is "here" now and your future is in front of you. You can retire your debt as quickly as possible, if you choose. You're the boss - how many changes and which you are willing to make to retire your debt is up to you.
    There are hundreds of videos by people in debt on YT. Some are more serious than others. They tell their story, walk through their monthly budgets and talk about their debt. One I like is "mistakes were made". You might like the budget sheets she uses and how diligent and determined they are.

    More people are in debt than we can even imagine - Including those who live in fancy houses and drive nice cars. They're typically doing it with massive debt.

    Why not move your discover balance to the truist card - STOP using the discover card, focus on paying off/down the truist card, and let your children (and others) know no birthday or Christmas purchases for a while - if you are 41 they are old enough (early 20s?) to understand. It’s a slog, but, once you start and KEEP focusing on paying it down, it gets easier. Good luck. Once paid off, switch back to the discover card, pay it off IN FULL each month and use the card to your benefit - the cash back builds effortlessly as long as you ALWAYS pay in full each month. Discipline is the key.

You will have to work your backside off, but, you will get there. Cut your credit card up while you are in the bank to sort out your finances. Only take out cash or pay with a debt card. @2:40, right after you said "...but I do have credit cards", I got an American Express ad lol.
    I was lucky in that I've always been debt averse and did pretty much anything I could to avoid it, so much so that I worked 60 hours a week while going to school full time so that I could pay most of my tuition up front. I did end up with a small amount in loans, but it was under 10k and I paid it off as quick as I could. Also, having no wife and kids helped me out alot I'm sure (I hear they're expensive haha).
    If the student loans have a low interest rate you might be able to just pay the minimums and then invest the extra money or use it to pay down the other debt. But the credit card part is tough. They come with a high interest rate so it's difficult to make a dent if your balance gets too high. And to make things worse, if you miss payments, you pay fees, your interest rates go up and you owe them even more. The system is set-up to keep people in debt and it's terrible. I hope everything works out for you - it's a difficult situation to be in.

    • @TheRachelShow
      @TheRachelShow  6 дней назад

      @@kebas239 i’m not gonna lie. I’ve done a lot over the years. But the ad and that placement is wild. 🤣

    God wasn't telling you to go to that university. Society marketed that idea to you much like algorithms are doing today with younger generations. Strangely enough your frontal lobe was much more adapted to be a mother than it was to go into debt slavery. Being a parent comes naturally. Learning the nuance of how student loans, interest, compounding and the racket universities and banks have been playing with one another on the public does not come naturally. Even really well educated people get completely blind sided by this and somehow become convinced that having children is more problematic and expensive than burying themselves into the many types of debts being marketed to us at all times. Think of it this way. There are people consistently trying to sell you something. You are your dollars are an asset to them and a liability for your self.

    The interest on credit cards these days are ridiculous.Basically 30%. Most people don't realize how much interest they are paying. I purchased a $2k TV on a Best Buy credit card. The deal was no interest for the first 24 months. If I didn't pay off the $2k in 24 months the lump sum interest would be $700. I think it's a good deal as long as you pay it off on time. You can't be that broke if you have a roof over your head! I live in my SUV (by choice) because I am paying off my student loans. My education got me to where I am today with a job that pays me well over 6-figures (combined $200k), but I am in debt and currently paying that off. I am single and don't have any credit card debts, other than my car payments and student loans. You are probably thinking if I make $200K per annum, why I am living in my SUV? Well, as a travel nurse, I bounce from place to place, so having a permanent residence wouldn't make sense in my case. My student loan is like the sword of Damocles hanging over my head, and if I don't keep up with my payments, my credit may be at risk. I didn't qualify for the student loan forgiveness, but then again, I don't care --- I only have $50k remaining and I make $5k payments a month. I have a bachelor's and master's degrees from Boston Univ and MCPHS. I work as a travel nurse and have busted my butt to get where I am today, and all you can do is make a video and complain about drowning in debt! Colleges/Universities like University of Phoenix is a school for profit, and not sure if those types of "online" school can really help a student get far, in terms of a career path. First rule of holes: if you are in one, stop digging. Secondly, get to work! Get 3 jobs if you have to. I currently work 2 jobs as a nurse and I pick up as much OT as I can. Sorry for sounding mean, but our country is so broken and if Tangerine gets back into the white house, it will be a disaster. I hope you figure things out on your end! Good luck!

    So just from watching your video, I have some suggestions: turn off the lamp in the background. That is is costing you electricity. In fact, why don't you sell the lamp? Do you need it? Same for the lava lamp, and the candlesticks. Make ebay into a hobby (selling, not buying). Sell anything you can that you don't need (and that means, really, really need - your doggy needs food, shelter and veterinary care, she doesn't need fancy toys or anything like that, she'll be just as happy with love and play from you, and those things are free).
