My favorite barkriver is my deer hunting knife its a oldie but a goodie it's a Barkriver Northstar A2 steel. The handle material I believe is micarta but looks like a deer hide to me. I love it all around wish they made them still.
Well... A bark river river with a minor flaw is still a better, pound for pound - dollar for dollar, product than any other brand out there.. so.. there's that. The BR Survivor vs Any WorkTuffGear, and the Bark River, even with a minor imperfection or two, wins by a landslide.
I live in Northeastern Ohio i jus picked up my first bark river during the black Friday deal at knives ship free i got a bravo 1 in A2 one side is ground the tiniest but higher like you won't even notice it looking at it if you're not a knife person the handle is absolutely perfect I mean perfect plunge grind are even and came sharp as hell i would honestly buy another Bark River without hesitation they are beautiful knives once you use one you will understand btw you have a awesome collection of barkies man and i feel you on the micarta i feel the same way that's the handle material i chose on mine green canvas and its a beauty
My favorites are #1 the Colonial Patch, 2 the Ultralight Bushcrafter, 3 The Gunny, 4 Bravo 1, 5 Northstar. The Colonial Patch hasn't been made in well over a decade, but Mike keeps saying he really wants to make another run in 3v. If he does, I'll end up with 2 or 3.
I only have the Gunny Hunter, Aurora Scandi, and the Bushcrafter. My fav is the Bushcrafter. It is really a jack of all trades. The gunny is too small for my hands and the Aurora is too long to work out on the tip.
How would you say the bushcrafter compares to the lt wright genesis in a Scandi? I have a Genesis and love it and don’t know if I can justify the bushcrafter if it’s going to perform just about the same
Niiiice!! Great Top10. Very good choices, but i see that those Liam hoffmans really did a number on ur big knives😅 i like them too. I think im gonna get the 3lb 28in one. I think you said you might get the bigger council tool woodcraft pack axe. I have a perfect one but i don't like it. Honestly, that size is too dangerous to me. Two handed tool like that should have more length
@@Homeyomey yeah, Hoffman has made an impact for sure. You are spot on with the middle sized axes being more dangerous. I am less thrilled with 19-24 inch axes… pondering taking a pack axe and re-handling it on something like a 26-28 inch handle…. We shall see where my winter free time takes me haha
@@chealy3030 their QC is an issue. I would purchase from a dealer like DLT or Kniveshipfree so if you get a bad one, they will take care of you directly. My Gunny Hunter is my all time favorite field dressing knife. Tis a laser! Cheers
I would recommend just trying to find an older Bark River someone is selling. I’ve got 7 or 8 bark river knives I use for skinning deer and the only one I’ve had any problem with is my most recent purchase of an ext-1 in Magnacut. Blade chips bad at the edge and I’ve sharpened it several times hoping to get rid of whatever fatigued steel is causing the edge to (micro) chip that badly at the edge but so far no luck.
Yes I absolutely agree!I’ve only had one knife with any problem with micro-chipping but I don’t even regret buying the knife at all. I love the knife and the ergonomics of the handle are excellent and I can still get the edge smoking sharp. It just doesn’t hold up on the edge as well as it should. I have a Bark River drop point hunter in 4V that is my favorite knife because I have cleaned 4 deer with that knife and it is still hair whittling sharp and has absolutely no edge damage whatsoever and I’ve never sharpened it, just strop it back to literally hair whittling sharp in about a minute after use. I bought the Magnacut because it is suppose to be as tough as 4V but stainless which is the only drawback of the 4V because if you set it next to water it rusts, lol. I take special care to clean it really well after using it on deer and it still has some really light rust spots and patina from use. I was hoping the Magnacut would hold up as well as the 4V without having to worry so much about getting it cleaned and dried after use but so far the edge has been no where near as durable as my 4V knife which is more than likely a problem with either the heat treat or them getting the knife overheated during grinding. If I can’t get the issue resolved with sharpening, I’ll reach out to Bark River and I’m sure they’ll take care of it as they have a lifetime warranty.

I do not currently own a Bark River and am looking forward to getting one. Thank you for the information.
If I were you I'd look forward to getting 5, and returning 4 of them.
"When they make a good one" ... and that's exactly the problem with this brand.

I was contemplating a bark river for hunting but have been increasingly skeptical because of all the QC issues people seem to have.
