First of all Craig is really great, Detroit Techno was and is still some unique music. I was catched by the name "Detroit classics set" But I am very sad and disappointed about that kind of events and it makes me really angry. Someone said "This is obviously not a club night but rather a social, where they decided to have Carl Craig play." and "You just walk out of a seminar, kind of need a coffee or a beer and just want to talk to the other people there and relax a little." he was annoyed by the people who were upset with the audience in this video. When this music was created it was made for the club, the music was the main thing in the club, it wasn't anything else. No one needed to talk or spend hours on the bar to meet someone. the people came to dance, namely long and constantly, to be able to let themselves go. That was the greatest about it, that everyone felt so free. Now the people go there because its fancy and hip. See and be seen. Some oldschool underground techno DJ from Detroit, this must be hip right? This kind of event shows everything about todays generations, they have no zeitgeist. Its filmed buy 100 cameras and the people standing there and looking on there phones. Sorry but this audience is the most boring audience, i have seen in my life. Hopefully there are not much more people like this in NY. My conclusion: Detroit Techno, Craig, Larkin, Mills and so on doesn't match with hipster events. Please stop!!!
Yeah that comment was me but i don't feel like you understood what i was trying to say. Have you been to ADE? Imagine it's just meeting people in the industry, parties every night and during the day there's seminars and stuff. At some points, you just want to relax and it looks pretty much like this.
Hailing from Detroit, Carl Craig has garnered a reputation for being an innovator and creative visionary due to his relentless artistic output dealing with various techno motifs and his fascination with futurism. Whether in the studio, working on cinematic soundscapes for his recent Versus project as well as more dancefloor-focused material, or in the DJ booth captivating crowds with hypnotic material, Craig’s versatility and passion shines through. As a tastemaker, Craig’s Planet-E imprint serves as an outlet for his own productions as well as fellow Detroit-based artists including Kenny Larkin, Kevin Saunderson, Moodymann, Recloose and Terrence Parker, among others, plus international talent like Paul Woolford, Martin Buttrich, Eduardo De La Calle and many more.
In reference to some comments down there.... You guys should show some respect, no to "the one and only", but one of the greatest pionners of tech music. He´s got a long carreer. As any business sector, is very dificult to keep always on the vangarde. I have been listening to Carl since 1994. This set is far to be a rock out. This set is like having some beers at the bar with Carl while he´s playing some of his private collection tracks. So... Enjoy.
Can't believe people are talking shit about this legend... he's trying to expose Detroit to the world since now he's been so successful in his career and people will listen. Sorry he's not playing back to back "bangers" smh
OK. I listened to the whole thing. The best track on here is DJ Rolando's "Night of the Jaguar". Carl Craig agrees. You can tell by the bliss on his face. He starts bringing it in at 58:14 and really starts rocking it at 1:00:25 or so. He's completely mesmerized, as should we all be. Runner up track = Strings of Life of course. Kenny Larkin had a banger in here too, but I forget the specifics. P.S. Craig is officially jackin' during this period of the video. Then he mentions BK, then mentions ATCQ, then shits on NY and drops some more 313.
Much High Maestro Carl Craig...True roots ...Big Respect for All Detroit Music Legends Congratulations for Mixmag to make things like this...Brilhant! Best Regards from SP|Brazil Jeferson Ciarvi (Human Robot)
Charivari!!! Way to kick off the set. Always killing it Carl Craig. I also want to understand why the crowd is always so poor at The Lab NYC events? Also Detroit dances harder than anyone so he deserves some better dancers!
Props to the asian girl in the khaki hat... even though she's clowning half the time, she's got moves. EDIT: Shit, all the young'ins in the front got some moves. Nice!
This is normal for now, gentrification has totally f*cked up that raw feeling of urban club culture, not just in New York, London too, basically everywhere. You have to really search hard for an authentic party with a true club vibe full of like minded party goers.
I couldn't agree more, this is probably the best set I've heard Carl Craig play but the pure want and need of the camera from a few of the crowd kind of makes a mockery of what this was all about back in the late 80's and early 90's. I guess those days are well gone, we got old and the kids love instant gram and book face. So glad I was there then and not here now.
No one in the audience was alive when Detroit Techno or any kind of electronic music started to kick. They probably not be sure about when Homework by Daft Punk was released. p
what an underwhelming crowd. What's wrong with Mixmag, attracting such an average audience and its average reaction? there should be a lot more middle aged people, people who grew up on this, and are happy to come out to hear Carl Craig playing and dance. And it should be a lot more crowded. If Giant Step was still around, they'd pack the place up with cool cats and loads of women and people wouldn't be clueless about these legendary tunes. Where can I get the version of Mother by Waajeed played in this mix?
Carl Craig landing his spaceship nicely
Anyone know who the Asian dancer is?
Why are there so few people in this venue? Was this a private party? How can people get notified about such events in the future?
I dont know why u blaming the audience. No Extasy-Teens on the floor, more sophisticated art students having fun

Exactly. When I saw him live the three times I did it was so different than anything you can find filmed.
He's a great DJ and producer, At Les is an all time great, but the vid don't lie, I lost count how many times he reaches out to the mixer appearing to make fine adjustments but doesn't seem to touch or adjust anything.
