WHAT IS HIGH GRADE STONE?
Anything you can run a 1/2" or more flake with a pressure flaker.
HEAT TREATING:
Heat treat a few FLAKES of everything you got except HIGH GRADE Raw Stone, Obsidian, Dacite, Basalt, Hornstone, Sonora, Fort Payne, or Rhyolite. Start with flakes and spalls less than 1" thick for 200°F for 24 hours to dry it out. Then raise the temp to 275°F and hold for 4 hours. Let cool down for 12 hours. Chip and compare. If no difference, put back I at 200°F for 1/2 hour, then raise to 275 for 1/2 hour, then raise to 325 for 4 hours.
Let cool down for 12 hours. Chip and compare. If no difference, put back in at 200°F for 1/2 hour, then raise to 275 for 1/2 hour, then raise to 325 for 1/2 hour, the raise to 375 for 4 hours.
Repeat with temp going up 50°F until you reach 600°F or nice chippable stone. Whichever comes first. If no good result, or things blow up, let us know.

5 artifacts in my life . First was a spearhead age 11 ,
Found a scraper , an arrowhead on my homeplace and a campstone and some small scapers .
I know around my area in southern Ohio I have never found a sharp artifact they are all dull and have a patina on them. Of all the ones I’ve seen collected from my area I haven’t see any that still have an edge on them. The edges look like the same as when you abrade on points your working on. I think it has to be from ground erosion or natural forces as no one has touched these points as far as I know since being left there. I’ve found some in creeks but most of them I’ve found in our fields that we raise crops in. I can always find a few after we plow and work the ground but it gets easier if it rains on the field before you go look because the rain washes off the mud and it’s easier to see them. Some are broken from working the ground and it bothers me when I see a fresh break or chip on one from the disc or plow but this is how I know they have a patina.

I wonder if the fire damaged ones are from replacing damaged points on good foreshafts, and they just let them drop into the fire when they removed them.
The Gower? points with the twisted stems are interesting.
Yeah, it's possible that the points were dropped into a fire. I think there are more likely scenarios, though, like when a lodge or dwelling burns down that contains all your stuff. 😁
