Thanks for sharing. A knapper's take on artifacts is always helpful

Very interesting to see those. I think it's very skillful work on some. Taking into account the tools they had to work with.

Have you tried making a Folsom point before? I couldn't find a video of it but even if you'd made one off camera I'm curious what your experience was. The Folsom is currently my "holy grail" when it comes to my progress and I am unsure how good I should get with my Clovis points before I can make that jump, since it isn't as simple as hitting the flute platform harder as I'd imagine you'd need to create a ridge to run the flake down on either side.

Yes, I've made a few Folsom points, and I find them boring. Must be my ADHD. It's a lot like making a point on a flake. You just trim around the edges after you obtain a thin piece. Not all Folsum points were extremely thin, especially when using bad stone, and not all were fluted on both sides. Some were not fluted at all and sometimes simply made on flakes (unifacial) with no flutes. To make the extremely thin, double fluted Folsom points, you need to devote your entire knapping life to that goal. No thanks. 🤪

Very informative videos. I really enjoy seeing the variations and skill levels. When knapping do i want to produce very thin symmetrical points or more authentic points with some acceptable flaws? I don't want to be sloppy or lazy but the Ancients were i think more pragmatic in their approach to knapping. If it does the job, it's OK to be wonky, a bit thick, or not razor sharp. Thank you!

You're very welcome. Very thin and symmetrical points do exist in the archaeological record. It's easier to make this type of you're only making one at a time. Try making 6 of the same type in one day without breaking any. You'll soon see the advantage of "good enough." 😁

Wouldn't the piece at 18:45 be a blank? A point in progress?

Maybe in a different part of the country, yes. In TX, there are a lot of finished blades like this.
