I was on my way from MN to Glacier National Park in MT (July 2024) and after watching this video decided to take a detour to make the long drive more fun. Stayed at James Kipp Campground off US 191 and started the drive from there to Knox Ridge Road -> Lower two calf road -> DY Trail -> Ferry crossing. Lower two calf road was the most fun drive I had. DY trail is a very flat and smooth dirt road so that section was boring. It got a little more interesting after the ferry crossing. Did it in my 2019 VW Atlas stock except Rim (changed from 20" to 17") and tires (245/70/R17 AT). The car was fully loaded with family of four, camping gear, 20 gallons of water etc. Thank you @SixOverland for this video while I wait for crazy prices/interest rates to cool down so i can afford a decent off-road vehicle.
So glad we were able to help you get out there! Sounds like an amazing trip with the family! Thanks for watching and thanks for sharing your story! God Bless and safe travels!
Been down to and across the McCullough Stafford Ferry and the whole trip down has awesome views but the trip across the river is the most awesome of all.
What a great video!! In the fall just across the river from the James Kipp campground you can visit Slippery Ann where the Elk will be bugling. We try and go every year and take a picnic with us for an all day adventure watching the elk.
Comming from switzerland and planing a trip through the midwest your video was a pure inspiration to do that loop through the upper Missouri. Thank you for that awesome footage.
Nice video! Haven't been in that area since the early 70s! The other two active ferry crossings in Montana are the Carter and Virgelle. While growing up in NE Montana, there was one more ferry crossing on the Missouri, just a few miles from I lived. It was the Poplar Ferry (aka, The Pride of Poplar). That Ferry was replaced by the Poplar Bridge in 1968. As a youth, I had the pleasure of crossing the Missouri on all 4 of these ferries. Thanks for the memories!
Yet another well-done video! I just recently found your channel and became a subscriber, and what a pleasant surprise to find you navigating one of the routes I created: The First Nations Adventure Trail! It can be hard to do justice to the sweeping vistas and wide open spaces of this trail, but you definitely nailed it! For others who wish to follow parts of this trail, Google will lead you to the files! Be safe, and Tread Lightly! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
That’s amazing! Thanks for putting the trail together! What a great section for sure. Hopefully one day we’ll be able to venture across the entire trail! Thanks for watching and for the subscribe, truly appreciated!
Man, glad you guys are back and with a banger. Definitely adding Missouri, I mean Montana on place to visit. Maybe Missouri as well. Great video as always Grant and fam!
I’ve missed you guys ! Always love your videos and can’t wait to see them always I hope you guys can one day come to my country Australia and see its beauty overlanding.
Such a wonderfully beautiful video. I’m visiting the upper breaks this summer and you have made me so excited to go travel! you have a beautiful family and you are a crazy good narrator it truly was poetic. new subscriber
Great video! Thanks! I lived in Montana and flew over the area you’re exploring…… I might do a “repeat” your route! Wave if you pass any of the Minuteman Silo’s….
Thank you for your time and documentary! I grew up in MT, never knew about the 3 ferries, nor the rocks east of Butte. Now they are on my bucket list since your vids! Since my wife and I are old school, could you possibly share the drone you use? Many many thanks!!!! I just found your drone link on Amazon page, again thanks!
@@SixOverland, I've been to Montana about 3 times but not with my jeep yet. I want to find trails close to the North Dakota/Montana border for now. Hopefully this summer I can do that.
That’s a genuinely kind offer. Never know what the future may hold or where we’ll end up ;) Thanks for watching and thanks for your support! God Bless!
I want a ov3rlanding trailer like yours for my jeep tj. Since I got my jeep my wife is hooked. She wants a jeep now . We love to camp. Might get me a trailer and make my own overlanding trailer with roof top tent . I want to overland Montana and Wyoming both.
Glad we can provide some inspiration! Old military trailers work great for a base platform, just gotta keep the build under tow capacity, but lots of options out there. Good luck and thanks for watching!
We’re geared at 4.88 on 35s. When towing we’re probably at 12 on the highway and 9 or 10 on the trail at the worst. We measure by smiles per gallon though ;) Thanks for watching!
I'm about 6 hours away from the campground at the beginning of the video. The trail that you took is on BLM land and can you camp along it? Seems that little info is available about camping in the area. I'll stay at the campground a couple of nights, but I hate to pay for camping.
@@Shawn2ndaccount Unsure about camping but it looked like there could be a few good spots. We chose the campground as a ‘sure bet’ driving in from a distance. I’d check with BLM. Thanks for watching!
Handheld/ground shots were on a Canon 90d. We’ve got a few Canon kit lenses that are our ‘go-to’ for video. I think we’ve got them listed on our Amazon link in description. Thanks for watching!.
Really enjoyed this one! A classic Six Overland episode! 🙌🏼🙌🏼👊🏼👏🏼😃😃

Can a crossover do the Knox ridge rd, Two calf road and DY trail
We didn’t see anything out there that would cause an issue.
