thanks for this video, i stop for 4years, then i need to review how to solve compass error, this video is very helpful and very detailed. ~ Thanks a lot, Long Live to you sir.
this is very good idea, when deviation and veriation is given, in the case when we need to find deviation by deviation card ,then we need to follow CDMVT.
thank you so much for the presentation, I have a question; so for the last part of the presentation when working on the True course, Compass Error to find the Per ships Course to make good the true course. do we have to always plus the True Course with the Compass error to come up with the per ship compass or per magnetic course to steer.
I think the compass error example is in error. When going from compass to true in the example the combined CE -2E from +12W is not 10E. Please explain I'm confused
Greetings Sir! The compass error is equal to 10 because the variation and deviation have different symbols such as E and W. For example, Since we are solving from True to Compass, for this reason, we will be adding West and subtracting East. T = 114 deg. V = (+) 12 deg. West M = 126 deg. D = (-) 2 deg. East C = 124 deg. Compass Error = (+) 12 deg. West (-) 2 deg. East = 10 deg. West I Hope it helps Sir.
Respected sir, I'd like to know how will we get our true course and compass course initially and do we have to maneuver keeping in mind the true course or compass course?
Nope. In this video he is just talking about Magnetic Compass. If you want to know your gyro error, you need to find an azimuth of the celestial body and compare to your bearing. The difference would make a gyro error. M stands for Magnetic North, not for Magnetic Compass, while C stands for Magnetic Compass.
Do we go in the Deviation Table with the Compass Heading or Magnetic Heading? Or you can do it in both ways? I can't get it coz deviation table says to start with the Compass Heading.
2 things is important! Deviation and variation! Variation can take from sailing maps. For deviation you must have a Deviation table diagram (some company make for big ships) or You must find a fix transit from shore or You must use a gyro (error known) or is more simple i thing You can take out your second/spare magnetic compass to your boat. Put to shore, for example your compass says 000 second compass (True) says 010 and varation at the map 4E (After year calculation) Put on TVMDC T:010 V:-4 M:006 D:XXX C:000 This thats mean your Deviation is 006E IMPORTANT!!! You must do this for each 22,5 degrees! For example; Heading 000 deviation 006E Heading 022,5 deviation 003E Heading 067,5 deviation 002W Heading 090 deviation 003E .................etc After all you can prepare a diagram Same like this: www.sailtrain.co.uk/navigation/images/grid.gif
I know it's kinda late but maybe newcomers might have the same question as you. If you're solving from True to Compass, + West, and - East. Vice versa for Compass to True. To help remember this, you can use the phrases: For True to Compass or T V M D C add W = "True Virgins Make Dull Company at Worst" For Compass to True or C D M V T add E = "Can Dead Man Vote Twice at Elections" It still applies, when solving for True or Compass by using Compass Error. I Hope it helps.
Hey man, Great video. Where would you actually use this? A real life example where youre out at sea would be very helpful. At sea and you lose your gyro.. could you use this?
Stew Stew to calculate your deviation for example. You know variation from your chart, you can calculate True with a sun amplitude or azimuth calculation, and with the ship’s magnetic you get C. So fill in the blank T V you get M then you know C, so the difference between M and C is your deviation
Hello Sir! Our Compass Error would be 40 deg. East, for the reasons below: *We subtract because both have different symbols *East because deviation is larger than variation
Man, I just loved how good he teaches me about that than my teacher in maritime school I am in.
Thanks so much Capt, testing for my Canadian mates license in 2 weeks your videos are really helping out!
Thank you sir, these sounds easier now. I didn't get it before although our lecturer did well. This video breaks it down. Much love from Nigeria 🇳🇬❤️
hey 👋🏻 do you have some Marine Academy or University in Nigeria? I’m just curious
now covid 19 sir I learned more from you than my teacher.
thanks for this video, i stop for 4years, then i need to review how to solve compass error, this video is very helpful and very detailed. ~
Thanks a lot, Long Live to you sir.
more content about navigation pls this kind of teaching was so good, salute to you sir
thanks Captain. you've made these things very easy for me now.... i am very much grateful
God bless you capt.
you have really made this easy for me
If you use the word CadeT with what is discussed, it reminds you which way to add or subtract the error or deviation. ‘Compass add east to True’
this is very good idea, when deviation and veriation is given, in the case when we need to find deviation by deviation card ,then we need to follow CDMVT.
Good job Dave!
Always remember it's not stated as "one hundred and twenty four", but "one-two-four" LOL
Good to see you again even if it's virtually!
Thank u, u have the ability to explain in so simple way
Thank you! Sir i learn more about Compass Error as 2nd Year college student.
Thank you for clearing this up for me 🤝🏻
Such an incredibly good teacher!
thank sir, for recall my memory.
Very very useful. Many thanks.
Easy and quick way to explain it👍
very good teacher thanks alot
Thank you sir. That was so refreshing.
What if Variation and Deviation are both EAST or WEST, should I still subtract to get the Compass Error?
How we determine direction of that course
I like this video very much , it is so nice clear. Thank you.
Terry Wright
Plain and straight 🎉
So psc is add west or subtract west? Combined the two ways of cdmvt/tvmdc at the end, very confusing
Thank You Capt... would teach us how to do compass adjusting?
Or you could do the Difference between True and compass
thank you so much for the presentation, I have a question; so for the last part of the presentation when working on the True course, Compass Error to find the Per ships Course to make good the true course. do we have to always plus the True Course with the Compass error to come up with the per ship compass or per magnetic course to steer.
Thanks Capt for the information
Its so easy to understand.
Wonderful explained
what will be the answer if your CE is E?
So you’re saying just follow the compass at 114
i like very well GOD BLESS
wish more vedio on navigation
solving
Thank you so much sir
Thank you so much
taught concisely TY
profesional👍thanks !
Thank you sir!
Very well explained👍
You have to calculate the deviation instead of looking in the charts !
Thank you captain.
really helpful cap
love from India
What if variation and deviation are both westerly or both easterly
I think the compass error example is in error. When going from compass to true in the example the combined CE -2E from +12W is not 10E. Please explain I'm confused
becos we get the final direction, from whatever the larger number of the direction is.. that's why it's 10W
What if the variation and deviation has the same name? For example both west or both east
in this case it wiil be added both, and compass error would be in the given direction.
Good one!!
Thank you for this video
Great for a refresher! Thanks a Lot sir :D
thank you
Simplified tnx a lot ☺️👏👏
If both D and V is W or E, should we add them?
wonder too
good job sir
Thank you so much Sir!
He is very good
Thanks u sir.
I would like to how it is compss err = 10 when it shuold be 14
10+2 we add them when took the singe for the greter number. & thanks agin

Cheers Mate!
Respected sir,
I'd like to know how will we get our true course and compass course initially and do we have to maneuver keeping in mind the true course or compass course?
Nami swan is good at navigation
Is difference between T-C gyro error?

How do we know if we're gonna add the CE to the True or subtract.
Coz you add the 10degW to 114. How do I know if in gonna Add it or subtract.thanks

how do you solve it if you have:
V=007 w
D= 047 E

bravo
how to get intercept of star
the video image is too poor, you need to fix it more
Голяма работа си, дедка!
❤❤
Vinaka.
Descend is better than ascend. Maths is better. Science is better. I do not care his age.
Thank you sir!
Thanks u sir.
I would like to how it is compss err = 10 when it shuold be 14
10+2 we add them when took the singe for the greter number. & thanks agin
yes my Q too
answer is 10°E. u subtract since different signs so the result is 10. you label it EAST since its the greater numerical value
