In this age of constant internet patches, I do hope that preserving older versions of games, especially fighting games, becomes encouraged more. As much as people hated some shit in S1, like Perfect Cell and A16, it is a historically significant aspect of the game, and more people should be able to experience it.

Am I crazy for thinking except for a few little things like no spark in blockstun this version of the game was much better? The game has lost so much mix, so people rely on snapback setups, I wish they would have brought up the lower tier characters instead of gutting some of the top tiers. As people correctly recognize, Cell, by far the best character in the game in our minds back then, wasn't even _that_ good. Like, a couple frames more on A16's grab startup would have been enough, I agree it was too strong in comparison. There are still other undiscovered ops like Gotenks. Imagine this version with characters like buffed Teen Gohan and GT Goku, they wouldn't be nearly as dominant as they are now but still super fucking strong.
Shit the only reason that GT goku is seen as broken was because he was given tools that were taken away from the rest of the cast after season one. For example, double supers, Insane level 3 oki, crazy block strings, he was basically a vanilla character released during season 2.

They’re not gonna do anything to him honestly. If it’s possible that they do kill off Fuzzies in Season 3, Broly is going to be in the Top Tier spot. I can honestly see this being the season of Broly.
Why is everyone so against buffing 16. It ain't like he's one buff away from being vanilla again. 16 was already neutered at the end of season 1, and season 2 put a bullet in his head. Leaving 16 the way he is right now would just be wrong and a waste of a character slot.
I'm gonna be honest here, I preferred DBFZ when it was pre release. The crazy amount of damage and the fact people were still discovering things that all had explosive damage. Even a raw level 3 took out over half of your health and it was wild. Sincerely miss those wild times and much prefer them over every meta since.

I know this is an old video, but can I get on my soapbox for a second. Can we bring back the RAID Boss into the meta again? A16 and SS Vegeta are the only OG Top Tier they actually successfully nerfed into mid-Tier, everyone esle from back then since adding Bardock has stayed solid top 10 the whole time.
optimized team for this version of the game is probably 16, adult gohan, and vegeta. I also think a case for gotanks can be made here as a mid choice depending if you want dp assist to mash when blocking or you want block stun for mix ups
