This is a great improvement for UW, where the goal is typically to make the opponent regret playing Magic in general
Making the opponent regret playing Magic in general provides a lot of value!
As an azor player, this is a massive slander. Our wholesome goal is to make everyone play mono white aggro and midrange decks.
Our less wholesome goal otherwise, is to profit off those guys in LGS events.
Yeah I love Hylda because its a control deck which feels appropriately costed to play against and fair. AND actually gives a lot more agency to both players. Usually when I play a control player it feels like I'm fighting a dark souls boss, challenging if you're new to it but with enough practice the moves are clockwork which I feel is what the opposite of what a dynamic card game should be
@@danielklein5829Yeah I won’t lie as of recent azorius and magic the gathering control decks in general kind of feel a lot better. Probably because you actually have to engage and control the opponent and not just wait them out until you basically play mono green or discount mono green.
Love how you always take the time to explain the purpose if each card. And now that neat category labels! That’s alot of effort! ❤❤❤
Thanks so much!
I'm from the ones that really don't need it but I do really respect the effort he puts into it for newer players / players that wanna know every detail
There's an MTG youtuber named SlothMTG who has started experimenting with a short intro at the beginning, and saving the detailed breakdown for the end of the video. It works quite well, because the specific info is there for those who need it, but I think most of us are already quite familiar with most of these cards. The Sloth method is the best of both worlds!
@@keithmpire You can just skip the deck tech. It takes only one click to do it.
ditto this is always a great touch
Man, I've become a big fan of these "get on the board" type of control decks with no board wipes. Been playing a Yorion brew that focuses on blinking creatures (especially with perpetual effects) and having a blast.
Definitely building this one, thanks LVD!
Really love the categories at the beginning. Keep up the good work LVD ❤❤
Glad you like them!
( 35:08 ) These boots are mine
Your dry humor is so great!!
I like the colored labels on the categories
This commander is such a fun way to play blue white. Was the first new brawl deck I made with the new set, and while my deck was no way near as good as this and I maybe won a max 20% of the time, the wins were so fun and felt so good! Considering building this in paper edh next, have wanted a home for verity circle since it was printed for some reason! Teferi who slows the sunset is such a bomb here
Nice video as always, thanks for staying original and informational
I wonder if the new video title scheme is helping with engagement and getting more viewers. It was nice to get a text breakdown of the format and deck being played, but if this leads to more views and subs then I'm happy
I always look forward and fear your videos. As a regular arena player, especially brawl, I dread appearing as your latest fodder! Great videos, thank you!
I always look forward to your historic brawl builds. Great video brother keep up the good work. These videos are awesome!
Here's a fun addition. Add intruder alarm. It's odd for a deck that's trying to tap things, though it becomes stupid easily with cards like Junk Winder.
1. Have Junk Winder, Intruder Alarm, and Hylda on the field
2. Tap any creature
3. Hylda creates a token, which untaps all creatures, which Junk Winder then taps again, which triggers Hylda
4. Rinse and Repeat until you're out of mana, or if you have a mana dork, create infinite possibly mana to make infinite tokens
5. Profit
If the new naming convention sticks around, I think adding the type of deck and format to the end of the title would be good. Makes it easier to tell what the vid is about
Definitely considered it, but it would ruin the aesthetic that I'm going for. A few seconds into the video all that information is presented and people are more likely to watch a video on a format they don't usually play.
@@LegenVD fair enough, I'm watching either way!
Land Tax really is ridiculous. It was a staple back in the day when we didn’t even understand card advantage.
Ive been playing Hylda for a few games, its so satisfying especially when they just rage quit
Interesting deck! Thanks for the vid!
I think you missed lethal at 19:20 by going for the 4/4 you could have pumped everyone instead for a 6/7, 6/6, 2/4, and 6/6, tap last creature to pump again for 7+7+3+7 and sanctuary gives you last counter for 25 damage with no blockers. Great video I also play her as my commander. Its crazy how you only need like 2 4/4 to go off with her.
Indeed, was waiting for a missed lethal comment with the +1/+1 counter mode since I rarely use it!
This is my next commander! Looking forward to stealing-er, borrowing your ideas!
Right 😂🤟🏿
This deck is awesome, such a great spin on control. I love how hard it makes threat assessment for the opponent. Who has ever been threatened by half of these cards before?
id be nice if you said if this was a historic or normal deck the title
Definitely considered it, but it would ruin the aesthetic that I'm going for. A few seconds into the video all that information is presented and people are more likely to watch a video on a format they don't usually play. The playlists on the channel page sort all videos by format.
@@LegenVD I do like the new aesthetic changes, loses some info but is more generally appealing. My uninformed suggestion is some sort of subtle format symbol in the thumbnail like you do the deck colours - just to inform retained viewers without putting off new/casual viewers. I'm very impressed with your brand management and progression overall, you've clearly put a lot of thought and effort into it!
Love the videos man!
Love the new video name style
Since yesterday I watch for a snow Queen ❄️ 👑 commander and know you have one for me 😮
Loved the game against you, as always a good deck. Keep up the good work :)
Thanks for the game!
As usual, thanks for the original decks and excellent gameplay explanation ! Small comment on 15:24, swiftboots do give haste on top of hexproof, so sentinel can tap things immediatly if you are willing to expose your queen for an attack step. Cheers !
I like the new deck tech format with the color coded categories
Nice. I like my Hylda deck.
Btw, slight misplay with the Gitrog guy when Chatterfang was out. You could have used the lotus to move the boots to tap their guy, make another 4/4 and move the boots back.
Would it be of value to add a card like Dowsing Dagger that puts a couple of small creatures on their side?
I like the idea behind it, something along the lines of Akroan Horse could be good enough to make the deck.
Dowsing dagger also ramps 3 once transformed, so useful that way. I'm mostly arena and hadn't heard of Akroan Horse, but looking it up, I see similar virtue for a commander deck. This Hylda deck was a creative new twist on blue/white - thx, as always!
Fun deck!
Gotta say, I don't enjoy the more clickbaity thumbnails and the removal of the format in the titles, but hey, content is still just as astounding, so a like it is !
I’ve been interested in this commander, I’ve wanted the “freeze” and tapping cards to have a home or be useful somewhere.
27:12 also hype to see this card after playing so much Baldurs Gate 3.
Calim, Djinn Emporer would be a good addition to the deck, card draw, tap and board presence over longer games, tons of value
I purposefully avoid Alchemy cards that don’t exist in paper in my Brawl builds.
@@LegenVD fair point.
I added Sleep to the deck. A mass tap of opponents creatures has been very helpful.
Was certainly a consideration!
Any chance of making a Yenna, Redtooth Regent deck? I built a paper deck out of her pretty much the instant I saw her announced haha, just built a Historic Brawl version and she's a ton of fun!
She was part of the Patreon poll, maybe next time!
I Trophied 7-1 in Limited yesterday with Yenna copying enchantments over and over. Though I think Selesnya is a bit underpowered this set in Limited I had a lot of fun with the card.
Man I swear I've never seen omnath work before, I would love to see a LVD take on it.
That bear deck didn't seem to have many bears.
You're as cold as ice...
land tax is such a crazy card, feels like even if it was only plains instead of basic lands it would be crazy lol
I built a Hilda deck. It was garbage. I thought to myself, "I'll just wait for LVD to point out my mistakes." And so he did.
I want her dress for my wedding 😩❤️
I got Crown in draft and it was crazy, absolute MVP
finna tap
I tried to build a cool deck based off hylda and it looks like I failed compared to this glorious deck. Sick!
Land Tax was triggered, and there was great rejoicing 49:21
Okay isn’t there a card like Lands Edge that’s legal on Arena? (I think it’s a red battle). So Land Tax would be sick in a deck with it.
I’m not a blue/white control mage. It’s probably my least favorite composition. But dang this deck is pretty cool. Tapping creatures seems like an underused mechanic that has some cool interactions.
He tapped that so hard it didn't untap during it's controller's next untap step.
Good titles for the algorithm. After a week or so, will you put the format titles back on so we can search for them easier?
You can find all my videos sorted into playlists by format on my channel page. The video description still mentions the format so it should show up with a manual search.
This deck is literally ice cold Luca haha so oppressive and disgusting, as all Azorius decks are 😂😝
Awesome job man! You're da best!
Staff of domination is another tap engine that can tap a creature for 4 among other abilities not superb but another choice for somebody looking for more engines
Is there a reason you don't play Time of Ice?
I don't want to bounce their creatures, I want to keep tapping them for value!
i love the usage of the Cyclonic Rift in your third match. I remember opening up that card in a pack 10 years ago in the Return to Ravnica set
We used to have some cards that gave the opponent creatures. Have not keept up to date on what cards are current, but if they are still around you could use them aganst deck with zero creatures.
Yeah, there's not that many and most are rather bad unfortunately.
Dowsing Dagger is the only one that comes to mind in UW.
How did I end up here? I was watching Goth GF actively soothing you to sleep.
Match 2, Toski BEARer of Secrets ah hah
Aw, where the standard version of this? Please help! Lol
Maybe once Sheoldred rotates 😂
@@LegenVDthat’s cold man 😜.
I know it’s not a good card anymore, but I want to put Icy Manipulator in this deck so bad. Hahaha like it’s so on brand with this commander.
I'm playing it!
@@LegenVD oh. Hahah I zoned out I guess. My bad
🎉
Tap Down Tribal
I must say I'm not a fan of your video titles since the last few days. They're imprecise and you don't know what you're clicking on. It could be standard, historic brawl, or something else. The deck is also undefined. Like the "No Rare Land" video, I didn't expect it to play around the green virtue, I kinda thought you were imposing a budget constraint to your deck or something.
Even the joke at the heart of this one "they regretted playing a creature" is pretty bland. Often control decks make you regret playing creatures. So it's not that special. And regret playing A creature ? Weird wording.
Tl;Dr please pretty please come back to your old naming practices
Otherwise the deck and gameplay was nice.
@@impurrsonator I guess we'll see! I'd be surprised if bland sentences with no caps like that were to consistently boost reach, but who knows.
2nd like 😂
