Older Americans tend to know/use both American & British vocab.
Americans in the middle won't know/use much British vocab.
Due to the internet, younger Brits have abandoned a lot of British vocab.

I'm pretty surprised at some of the words. My country was a British colony and we adopted the British English. In spelling, vocabularies, etc. But.. most regular people picks up American way of speech in colloquial speaking. But spelling - we are always stick to British haha. The grammar confuses me so much, because we speak in one way and write in another. I dont even remember whats British and what American grammar anymore

The English spelling are also used here. No one will correct you if you use the English spellings. People in different regions of the US will use words in different ways. It reminds me of when Europeans think we don’t use the metric system. We might not use it conversationally but all of our tools come in both and most food packaging use both.
