Eryu is still my first pick, usable in so many ways even being an assist.. he is a monster.. buff on both def and attk as well.. just my own opinion..Selena was the biggest surprise though.. she is a monster support.. and good front line interrupt.. can tank damage if triggered right.

In PVP story mode, Oni has been more helpful to me than any other character in the game, even though I have not tested T. Akuma. He is a better character overall.

I often find these Special Summon units can be a daunting prospect. I view it from a F2P perspective - it takes a long time to get any units to a usable level, so you often have to make a decision and stick with it. Conversely paid players don't want to waste money.
As this event launched I got enough copies of regular Akuma to move him over to Div summons, so was able to start a new Special Summon path and I was leaning Oni prior to Trendy Akuma coming out, but its tricky to know if it is worth summoning for Gouken, Honda or anyone else first etc. Personally the special summons take so long as F2P that it always seems a bit lame going for a tank or support when dps units feel much fancier xD
I always say if you are not a spender then put aside any flash or big numbers.
What does your team builds need most? If the answer is survivability then it’s gouken.
If you think healing and buffing is gonna push you to next level then go Elena.
If you need “big numbers go brrrr” energy then it’s dps time 😂
But whatever you do don’t summon what someone else tells you to summon.
Like this is why I don’t do priority lists (if you watch the ones I have done I actually tell people to summon what their account needs)
But lists that say “get this first” are nonsense and you shouldn’t listen to them just look at your account and you should know what to go for
@@Hayzink yeh I fully get why you'd move away from priority lists now there are so many special summon units. I think my issue is that I don't know what I need to push me further. I'm likely at a point where in any pvp or leaderboard content I'm able to push to the heights of where F2P can take you - but can't compete with the whales out there.
In story mode and towers I'm never sure if I need better tanks/support or just more "big numbers go brrr". I'm roughly at a point where my standard team/s of Bison, B.Zang, Viper/Guile and S.Poison aren't just auto attack winning in the stage 36-37 range - but my recently maxed out e.ryu isn't necessarily beating those stages either xD
But similarly, because it will take months to get Oni or whoever to max/usable levels, what I need now doesn't necessarily matter either. As I've got tank options in the new suit abel, I'm working on the new adon for more dps - and i've already got regular elena, Summer Yang and Street Poison all maxed out for support xD
@Vikingeek well the way I see it.
If you feel like “this unit will take me months to get sss”
Sit on the tickets until you think you have enough to get them done (don’t even start)
That way you are safeguarded against something dropping that you really really want
@@Hayzink maybe instead of broad tier lists with every character in it, would be better divide them by roles and functionality (like tier list for interrupts/CC, survivability enhancers, point sustain, single target/rear dps, aoe dps, buffers and super bar rechargers)
You don't need to include every single character every time, just the top X that you deem relevant for the category, and this way some character can appear in multiple lists, I think versatility can be important for newer players.
For example while normal chun-li has not been my top choice for months now, she still gets good use in secondary teams or even in assist position for in the main team, whereas fighers like mad ryu become extremely niche (right now I only use him for carrying thunder tower)
I went for Gouken over Akuma or E.Ryu, and I can say for me personally Gouken has been a godsend. Especially since I can just use units like Viper or Bison for dps. I went for a cheaper dps in S.Ibuki, and a team like Elena/S.Ibuki/Bison/Gouken has been tearing through content for me. Since I didn't go for Oni, initially, I was able to save some tickets and now have 750ish and can summon either Oni or T.Akuma now. Though, I may save for a Turtle. Gouken is a tank, sure, but with his cars, he is able to keep your team alive long enough to do substantial damage in a fight.
I recently borrowed someones maxed out Oni and I have to say I'm a little underwhelmed by him, at least in PvE content. I know rented characters are kind of nerfed (due to equipment limitations) compared to your own, but it really wasn't useful. Fun, but not as useful as the tried and true characters. I'd venture that the new Akuma just doesn't have a place to take over for someone else if you already built the old units up. The balancing of the game to justify new DPS is just bad. IMO, the best thing at this point is to just introduce Fire Adon (or Dhalsim) equivalents across the damage type spectrum. Tried and true rulers of their types and roles. All others just fall the wayside as they already do anyway.
Trendy Akuma is good, but I feel like his release is to get people to use their Special Summon tickets before possible limited time Global units are released (you know what im getting at). Unless you're a whale, I say at least wait for the GL exclusive (you know what im getting at) and see how good it/they are before going for T.Akuma.
They want people to deplete special summon tickets before a better unit comes, and who more enticing to release to get people to spend tickets on then a cool looking Akuma, whos not bad but ill definitely take my chances on any GL exclusive being better, as well as limited time (T.Akuma will always be there). Have whale friends and use him as a merceneray and just wait imo
I mean while whale bait is a thing, if the unit is good I personally don’t see it as a bait thing.
It would be different if banners were more like dokkan for example where you get “high value” banners that could drop other units that are top tier while you are chasing that “key” unit.
But with our banners being 1 unit only the only way it could really be a bait banner would be if right after this they decided to do 50% off on special summon unit

Oni is better in storymode and multi bosses. He has bleed and souldamage and does 1 additional trigger skill every rotation which akuma doesnt have. In late game characters without bleed, shock and burn do little damage in story.
Akuma is better in pvp because he is better at 1 shotting and his trigger activating is a one time nuke that will win the match probably.
On PvP it’s highly dependant on the comp tbh as if you want the trigger fast you need to run super c2 but you can’t then switch to super c3 so you are missing out on his big numbers on the c3.
If you go super c3 which is what you want then you gotta survive to that point and depending on who the match is against team wise that could be easier said than done.
A lot of testing needs done before properly passing judgement.
I’m sticking with my gut of oni potentially turning out to be the better overall choice but we will see in time
