    BCS is absolutely the best. I got mine as a left over from my dad. Gosh, this thing can cut some dirt. It also had a sickle mower that was great clearing out woody places. It is very easy to change attachments. Cost a little more, yes it does, but if you are a serious gardener it makes gardening fun.

      Apples and oranges. Honda tillers use a chain drive to transfer power from the engine to the tiller and include a 3 year warranty. BCS transmissions are built with heat-treated steel gears that run in oil bath (no belts or chains) and come with a lifetime warranty. BCS offers 18", 20", 26", 30" & 33" tiller attachments for our two-wheel tractors. Honda's single-purpose tiller is 20".

      Most service is fairly simple to perform and we do have service bulletins and how-to videos available for the most common tasks (with more videos coming all the time). The majority of the routine maintenance is simply keeping the Honda engine happy (changing the oil and air filter) and any small engine shop can do that for you.

    why are the wheels mounted in reverse?

    • @BCSAmerica
      @BCSAmerica  4 года назад +1

      Hi John, Good question! The handlebars of BCS two-wheel tractors rotate 180º. It's recommended to mount the tires in the direction that you use most frequently. If you notice the tractor at the 2:00 min mark, the wheels are mounted the other direction. The tractor at the beginning of the video is primarily used by the owner for mowing (front mount).

  • @small-timegarden

    Hi I have a question please. If I put the tiller at a depth of 2 inches, and pass over at the same depth setting, would there be a deeper tilth than 2 inches, or would there be a consistent depth of 2 inches? Thanks

    • @BCSAmerica
      @BCSAmerica  2 года назад

      Taking a second pass at the same depth setting will definitely till deeper. How much deeper really depends on what type of subsoil you're dealing with. The planar wedge at the center of the tiller (the reason our tillers don't leave an untilled strip down the middle) essentially sets the depth. Raising or lowering the lever on top of the tiller raises and lowers that wedge.

    Thank you for your video. I used to own a BCS 745 diesel rotavator, it was a good machine, unfortunately, it was stolen many years ago. Do BCS still make a diesel machine? I noticed the machine you are demonstrating has a 13 hp Honda petrol engine. I know that the Honda engines are very economical and trustworthy engines.

    • @BCSAmerica
      @BCSAmerica  4 года назад +2

      We don't import diesel engines any longer (they aren't EPA compliant with a variable throttle), but there are engine conversion kits available and we do have some dealers that will swap out the Honda for a diesel option on request. Let us know if you need more info.Thanks!

      @@BCSAmerica Hi there, thank you for your reply, it's appreciated. Out of interest what diesel engine option to they use, please? Is it still the Lombardini engine? I know that the Honda engines are good, however, sometimes a diesel engine rotavator has that low down torque and can also be operated at lower revs. This is ideal if you are digging hard ground and you want the machine to bite into the earth.

    • @BCSAmerica
      @BCSAmerica  4 года назад +2

      @@GardenEquipmentReview Yes, it is the Lombardini (Kohler) 11hp Diesel. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised how well our tillers bite into hard ground with our gas engines. Be safe and make an extra pass.

    • @court2379
      @court2379 6 лет назад

      I have these tips. The gearbox and pto housing tend to plow the dirt causing the tiller to not penetrate. If you are impatient you can swing the handles back and forth to get that dirt out from under the gearbox. I find the quick coupler makes the problem worse as it lowers the angle between the pto housing and the ground causing more plowing. It works better without it. Bigger wheels help get the housing away from the ground. More and heavier wheels help give it enough traction to just plow thru it.
      Mow any grass short before starting or it will get tangled around the tines reducing the depth they can penetrate.
      The last and most helpful thing is to till at the right time. You want the soil to be wet, but not so wet it clumps together when tilled. At least for my soil, which is largely sand with a bit of clay. If you try when it is dry, it is three times the effort, and dusty. If you miss the right window, wet the soil down overnight first. It takes a while for the water to penetrate.

    I wouldn't have a tiller with just forward rotating times. My craftsman has both. You put it on forward rotating and hit the hard clay dirt and it pops front tires up and will run away. And I can till thick Bermuda grass twice and have fine powder like soil. I wouldn't trade counter rotating for four of these.

    • @BCSAmerica
      @BCSAmerica  6 лет назад +6

      Unlike your Craftsman tiller, the BCS two-wheel tractor with tiller
      attachment is all-gear driven, with a lower center of gravity, more
      weight, and much larger tires. The result is that heavy clay does not
      cause the BCS wheels to "pop up and run away". And, because the BCS
      features 20 revolutions of the tines per one revolution of the tractor
      wheel, it effectively (and effortlessly) tills sod.
      However, your point is valid that, on its first pass over the sod, a
      forward-rotating-tine tiller will not take as deep a "bite" as a
      counter-rotating-tine tiller. Our experience is that tilling sod
      requires one pass more with the BCS than it would if we could
      counter-rotate our tines. For the record, safety is the reason why our
      tiller is not designed to counter-rotate. While your Craftman has a
      belt that will stretch and slip if the operator hits something solid,
      our concern is that our all-gear drive might cause the BCS to move
      quickly in a reverse direction. Needless to say, ensuring operator
      safety and enjoying the benefits of all-gear drive outweigh the
      inconvenience of making one extra pass in one tilling circumstance;
      namely, the tilling of sod.

      I used to own a Snapper RT8 and it was a tank. Had heavy steel suitcase type weights on the front. It would till in both forward tine or reverse tine. It worked great! But, I ended up selling it because I was worried it might break down in the backyard of a customers house. It would have taken a winch to drag it out.

      The handlebars are reversible - meaning attachments can be operated in both front and rear-mount mode. Tilling or other soil-working applications will benefit from the tires being mounted with the chevrons going forward in rear-mount mode as the traction is often needed. Mowing requires a lot less traction, and it really isn't necessary to remove both tires and re-install them on opposite sides of the machine for most mowing applications.

      You are completely missing the main feature of these tractors. The handlebars rotate 180º for both front and rear-mount implements. In most cases, the direction the chevron pattern on the tires is oriented in whichever direction you use the tractor most frequently. The owner in this video primarily used their BCS for mowing. It wasn't worth the effort to remove the wheels and spin them around for a few passes with the tiller.

    Credibility is lost when your display shows the tires on backwards,.

      Credibility is never attained when you make a comment without understanding the main feature of the product.
