Thanks for the idea of wrapping the sausages in cloth! I cut some squares of muslin and cut off the selvages for ties in place of rubber bands. The inner parchment I did like a burrito, rolling part-way and then folding the edges in before finishing the roll. No rubber bands used at all... Also love using beans, which I had a bunch of, and no oil.
Good method. I refuse to use plastic wrap and aluminum foil. recently i bought silicone sausage molds you can steam or oven. work perfectly. also i love the addition of mashed beans.
Great recipes. I always do parchment lined foil as well. This way everything is compostable/biodegradable. The parchment paper is fed to my composting worms and the foil can be reused a few times and then composted.
Great recipes. I modified slightly to make a 'basic sausage'. I re-heated and browned in fry pan with some olive oil. Very nice. Should be good on a BBQ too. Thanks so much for your inspiration!

If you wrap the seitan using cheesecloth without the parchment paper, it will make the pattern, which actually works really nicely for making a seitan ham.

Aluminum is linked to Alzheimer's disease, so I avoid it as much as possible because my Grandma had it. Aluminum is hiding in things like deodorant too, so watch out!
You can wrap them in the foil. If you do not have a steamer, you can try to do without it by placing the sausages directly in water, but they may get wet and not become firm like they would if you used a steamer.

I would not use the bandanas. That is getting clothing dye into your food. Use Cheese cloth. that is meant for cooking.

The cheese cloth i found pretty flimsy for steaming these, i am going to get the bandana's.
At least she removed her ring when she shaped the sausages, unlike some of the chefs you see on Food Network.

I don't soak them, but I do get them wet so they are easier to chop without them flying all over the place.
