Grand cayman is a lovely island, I was very fortunate to live there for 15 months. The people are warm and is a bastion of nationalities that as the video points out you’ll make friends for life. For expats take note that it is very Americanised for many reasons and work can be tough it’s not all play but what you make of it. Jobs are supposed to go to the locals first which is a contentious issue but you won’t receive bad vibes. The local people are very gentle and laud back, traffic can be a real pain too. Salary’s fluctuate for some roles I started on 9 CI an hour so it was a lot of hours and then gained something a little higher but you have to work for it nothing is given. For those wishing to go you have to have some sort of skill and experience that isn’t already in place on the islands some companies enforce this quite well some don’t but don’t be put off. I found in my role hundreds of applications from all over the world and was hard to manage and its the same for many companies as it’s such a highly sought after lifestyle and place to live and work, if a company comes to you then that’s great as you have room to manoeuvre however if you are the one looking it can be bleak as there are only so many jobs to go around and some companies can be ruthless. The work culture is a hybrid of the us and U.K. something in the middle. All in all a wonderful place to live and if you do land lucky embrace all that there is
This is incredibly true. I think I'm feeling more inspired to show some of the hard moments about vanlife. Sometimes vanlife RUclipsrs only show the beatiful moments, but there are a ton of moments where it isn't fun or beautiful at all.
You should totally do it. I think that’s what people really want to see, there’s enough feel good content online making us all think life is supposed to be perfect. Life is great but it can also be incredibly hard, we should share both sides.
They have a high standard of living and good access to healthcare and other first world needs but the points he makes in the video are valid. Period. Not to mention it’s hotter than f in the summer months and your time on the island is limited before immigration kicks you out (even with a work permit)
that's not the case if you buy land there and build a beach house, then you can apply for permanent residency. Also, you can get in IF you have a lot of money to open an account with over there (at least $5mil last I heard)@@fluffytail6355
Glad to see someone bring up the trash problem! It’s constantly swept under the rug, so to speak. Sadly, noone is going to really give a damn until it’s too late.
I lived and worked in the Caribbean for years. Many expats think it’s easy. Like he said it’s not. Some islands are expensive ( property , cArs) and job opportunities can be hard to come by.
I agree with so many of your points here. I'm actually from Cayman and often we're not able to be objective about things, that's why nothing ever gets done here. It's quite frustrating to say the least. If you're up for it man I'd like to have a coffee and chat I see you love to travel as well and I'm an aspiring travel Vlogger myself - Let's connect.
Islands are good only for holidays. For career and growth only big countries like USA, Canada or the Europe. Of late even Asia has a plenty of opportunities.
Good video. I think the clothing situation isn't as bad as it sounds here though. THere are clothes stores, and not all prohibitively expensive. There are regular stores like JMichael which are quite affordable and have big selections, places like black pearl where you can get surfer/skater gear, there are boutiques, and there's a bunch of stores in Caymana bay. True that a lot of people make big shopping trips to Miami though because the choice is still limited.
Thanks for your comment Dale. There are definitely options for clothing in Cayman and they have gotten slightly better since this video was filmed. 🤓 However having just been off island for a few weeks the variety to choose from and pricing most people are used to in larger countries is very different to what we have in Cayman. I just brought a friend underwear back because they didn’t like the options and pricing available here 😅. #GoodFriend I guess this depends how much you like shopping too. Maybe less shops at a premium is better for some people. 🤷🏻♂️
Actually you can just go and get a computer on island. It all depends on what type of computer you want. And as a caymanian myself, i do agree with some stuff you said. If you can't get this or that, then you should probably go on vacation and take a break. For eg when you said you haven't had new clothes in over 2 years, you can easily travel to Florida and buy new clothes (tickets are so cheap to fly there from Cayman) you kinda making it seem its the worst out of the worst. Even though they are some difficulties in Cayman i would NOT want it any other way. But then again you're entitled to your on opinion. It is nice to see someone's views who wasn't born and raised here!:))
Hi Zaria, thanks for watching and letting me know your thoughts in such a kind way. 1) As I stated in the beginning and the end of the video, I think Cayman is an amazing place to live. However no matter where you live in the world there will always be negatives, empowering people by showing them the good and the not so good is important. If you have a look at some of the other videos I've created, you will see I love showing off these beautiful islands. 2) I think you misheard me - I said laptop battery. I was attempting to show an example of how getting a specialised product can be difficult in Cayman and how casual shopping is not something you generally do here. You have to be intentional and take a vacation off island to get more choice. This also means spending a lot more money than a person in any other country who wouldn't need to fly somewhere to get that variety. I love this because I'm not a big shopper and prefer places without huge malls. I would casually buy clothes I don't need every week when I had access to malls, now I only buy clothes when I need them. However there are many people that love that convenience and find it hard to live without. I hope that clears up my intentions, thanks again for watching and I hope you get to see some of the cool videos I've done about the awesome parts of Cayman.
Be patient that certain things are a lot easier for you as a native Caymanian than as an expat but all the Caymanians I knew who could leave the Island to shop a few times a year certainly did!

Thanks for this! Your videos are always so informative. I’m visiting the Islands in August and will try to look for jobs. I’m only 24 and have 3 years banking experience. Do you think it will be fairly difficult for me to get a job in the same field? Thanks in advance! Also, is it true that shopping in Miami would be easier and cheaper than shopping in Cayman? Don’t they have a wide variety of products there?
Yup, most people that live here do their major shopping in Miami. Not sure how difficult it will be to find a job, it just depends how many vacancies there are at the time, and if there are Caymanians who have the skills to do that job. No harm in trying though. Good luck.
Be prepared to leave the island (several weeks or months) while they process your paperwork at immigration, should you get a job. You can’t stay on the island while they process as you must enter with their approved paperwork in hand.
Im in cayman now for a yr and im still not used to it. And the mosquitoes are loving me so much and attacks me all the time grrrrr. I dont have much friends in here :(
I never really thought of the downfalls. It’s crazy to think about not having a Walmart near by. Where I am in Orlando, there are 3 Walmart’s within 10 minutes of my house. Hi Srizzil, very cool videos. :) Speaking about huge workloads in audit - are overtime hours paid, or do you take them back in the form of days off? Would it be difficult for non-native English speakers to land a job in an audit company?
From what I've seen there are small bonuses sometimes but generally overtime is unpaid although hours can be reduced in the quiet months. Had some none native English speakers in my audit time but they were fluent in English.
hey bro I am also going to study to become a CA and am currently finishing off my matric. At the end of the year as I'm sure you are aware of the long holiday we get, how much would you reckon one should budget for to experience the Cayman Islands for a month
Cayman is the second most expensive place to live in the world. So a lot haha 😂 . But check out a website called caymanresident.com to get an up to date idea of how much stuff costs and use that to budget. Get an Airbnb so you don’t have to eat out for every meal or a hotel with a little kitchen. Flights from SA can be anywhere from $1600-$2400 depending on the time of year. Hope that helps. If you can make it happen it’s a stunning place to do lots of diving and get some maximum beach time.
Almost anything you can buy in the States can be freight forwarded to Cayman. We also have small music stores that may be able to bring items in on request. Instruments are duty free.
I love Cayman, even made a video about the positive sides. (Why You Should Move to the Cayman Islands - ruclips.net/video/g4v01wNKXHc/видео.html) But it’s good for a person who is considering moving here to know some of the hard parts of living here too. Hope rollover goes fast so you can be back in your happy place soon.
thank you for this. i never knew about the trash mountain. by the way, when you say it stinks up the "central" part of the island, are you talking about grand cayman?
The main dump is on Grand Cayman, by central I'm referring to the highway, Camana Bay area. Depending on the wind it can sometimes push those smells along Seven Mile Beach and Central George Town. The government has just signed an agreement with one of the largest private companies on island to help cap the dump and create a more sustainable solution. Work is already underway and we are hopeful it will all be done within the next 3-5 years.
Anyone moving to Cayman - avoid GT Automotive! Biggest crooks on island they will charge you 4-5 times higher for parts than other shops. Parts for $185 they will charge $685. Biggest wessels shady bastards ever!
I live in Cayman born and raised I’m real caymanian thru and thru and the biggest problem is the expats that come here and take the jobs away from us. This video makes me upset
I'm sorry you feel that way. Unfortunately as amazing as Cayman is, every place in the world has it's downsides to living. Perhaps watching my video on why you should move to Cayman would give you more positive feelings.
The expats can’t take jobs away from you. You are privy to them first and that is enforced. Furthermore, few employers want to do the expensive and time consuming paperwork to hire expats. There are more benefits to hiring locals BUT you need the skills and work ethic to do the job. In my personal experience, since caymanians are promised jobs over all others, they move like molasses and there’s no “hustle” or need to “impress” their employers to keep the job. At a government office, if the Caymanians working there moved any slower, they’d be moving in reverse!
I want to travel too but still figuring out my way through uni. I started a RUclips channel as you can see by my name so kinda keeps me motivated. Have a great day and keep up with the great videos, that drone gives the best and the different angles and backgrounds you use...creativity.
The highest point in the island is only 25 feet above sea level. The rest is at sea level. Hurricanes will submerge the island with storm surge. My ex lived there during the last hurricane (I don’t remember which one) and even in 2014, infrastructure still needed to be fixed.
Other downsides include people drink driving and poor driving resulting in so many accidents. Also very traditional values and rigid gender roles here, the LGBT+ people I know on island get treated very poorly and looked down upon. Also everything is very slow to process here. Worth it though!
talking about this they have created a LGBT+ and straight alliance club for anyone who needs support or want to meet other lgbt+ people in the Cayman islands
Thank you for this video. I tried working out there for 5 months, while the job was great and I enjoyed it and the people the rents were so expensive, groceries very expensive and medical expenses also. There is no decent bus service. The weather can be terrible and the stink from the garbage tip is very bad at times. Crime is bad and pay is poor in relation to what you need. It's a shame as it's a beautiful island but one I wouldn't recommend sadly as there are much better affordable places to go in the world.
Weather is terrible really it practically sunny 365 days what more do you want. Rent only feels expensive because we are not a broken down country like Jamaica where you can rent an entire home for practically nothing. Look at what you get you get to live in a place where no one bothers you and its CLEAN. sure there are cheaper islands and places to go to but you know what comes with that poverty and high crime rates and people trying to rob you everywhere you go. I am caymanian i have lived in the USA and the Uk and non of them compare. We have more American and Europeans trying to live here than any other nationality. Speak the truth. You have a right to your opinion but your a fool if you think you can get what we offer for a cheaper cost of living.
@@meshachmyles8712 what about the Jamaicans who stand along the road and cut up the iguanas then throw them with slit throats over then fence as a source of “entertainment?” I lived there too and rent IS expensive. Peace out!
Of course he is an expat, but why should that matter in this instance? Isn't he living there and experiencing life on the island just as anyone else, be they born Caymanian or temporary migrant workers? When Srizzil speaks, he can only express his personal experiences; some experiences might be different from yours and some might be similar.
Sorry but this feels like you had to dig pretty deep to find negatives, they are also vastly over exaggerated. You can change careers (not overly hard) While i think everyone agrees the dump is a problem, saying that it stinks up the center of the island is inaccurate, i have never once smelt it on a beach that's for sure This just seems like a pointless video, like you lacked anything to talk about so came up with this.
Thanks for your comment Rob. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it. I made fun of the very point you are making at the end of the video, because you really do have to dig deep to find negatives to living in Cayman. Let me tackle the two issues you highlighted: 1) I was specifically talking about expats changing their careers. Without status you would have to prove that you are better qualified than someone with status in order to get a job, I don't see this as being an easy task and for many expats who travel from impoverished countries to earn money for their families back home - taking chances when it could lead to you having to leave is risky business. If you have more insight into this I'd love to hear it, it could make a great video. 2) Perhaps my friends and my noses are just too sensitive, or haven't gotten used to the smells yet, but I have definitely smelt the dump from many different beaches, and all over town, many different times depending which way the wind is blowing. I hope you got a chance to see some of the more positive videos I've made about Cayman on my channel. As I stated in the beginning, this video was created because I want to provide a more balanced view instead of pretending everything is perfect like we tend to do on social media today. I'm always open to video suggestions, so if you have any ideas I'd love to hear them.
You’re so full of it. When you’re on a work permit, you can’t just “change careers” or employers as your permit is tied to the industry you’re in as well as to your employer. Don’t leave your house - you have a LOT to Learn!
Bro i am a born a raised Caymanian and all the crap you spoke about is stretched pretty bad. That mosquito story was in the 1800 and you make it sound like that is how it is now. Second of all there are more cars here than people so transport is not a problem. First expats have ALL the say when it comes to work PERIOD. im caymanian and its 10x harder for me to get a job than an expat. There are more expats here than caymanian you should speak about that and how that is destroying and crippling locals from getting work because we can't live off of what you can. Many foriegn workers life together 3 sometimes 4 people to a place renting. This makes monthly bills easier to deal with. Light bill, water food and transport split in 4. Locals by city code cannot live that way and will not be giving rental space if they decide to live as a group. It took me 3 yrs to get a decent banking job because of cheap expat labour. Why pay me 15 dollars and hour when i can pay 2 worker 7.5. Cayman is a blessed place lowest crime rate in the Caribbean and probably the western hemisphere. Yes we have issues like all counties do but you can still walk our street without hassle our roads are in pristine condition we are the most forward Caribbean country we have everything here, sure Cayman can get boring but hey that's why people come here to relax and not be hassled.
My parents lived there as expats for many years, and eventually obtained 'status' (citizenship). Every single rule that exists is designed to screw an expat over in favor of an inbred local. Nothing whatsoever is fair. The inbreeding got so bad at one point, that they had caymanians walking around on all fours. And those people are in charge, and make the rules as they go. There's absolutely no appeal either so if you're not prepared to be a second class citizen, don't go.
Marc, aka Srizzil, I visited GC this December & the best thing about the island was leaving it ! The whole island reeks of garbage & the waters have become filthy with trash as well. Perhaps that's why the cancer rate is high - filtered water doesn't cut it. Food & clothing was ridiculous. I've been to 22 islands & while GC may have been beautiful at one time it is no longer... 7 mile beach is losing more & more beach every day/month... Run for it while you can ! It's only a bankers island but the truly rich just use you & don't live there themselves. You seem like a nice person & we we're going to see if we could run into you but I got horribly sick from the fetid 7 mile beach water going into my ears. Take care & may God protect you.
There's a down side to EVERYTHING. But is your glass half empty of three quarters full? Cayman - it's not such a hard life. No one will ever look at the ceiling on their last day and say "I should have never spent those years in the Caymans". Keep up the posts ;-) Enjoy and live!
Totally agree, like I said at the end of the video, these are very small things compared to all the great things Cayman offers. But we need to show that no place is perfect, even if it comes really close.
Cayman CAN be a hard life when you don’t have a job and the jobs are promised to locals. You can only stay on the island for a limited time then you must leave! It’s not somewhere you are allowed to live forever unless you are Caymanian.

Almost anything you can buy in the States can be freight forwarded to Cayman. We also have small music stores that may be able to bring items in on request. Instruments are duty free.
@@BryWMac funny you ask that - im waiting to settle in before i decide to get my 10k worth of synths etc shipped over
If you dont like cayman just leave i am currently on rollover and i miss cayman so much
I love Cayman, even made a video about the positive sides. (Why You Should Move to the Cayman Islands -
ruclips.net/video/g4v01wNKXHc/видео.html) But it’s good for a person who is considering moving here to know some of the hard parts of living here too.
Duh! Of course Grand Cayman! Only a handful of people live on the other 2 islands. 🤦♀️
@@Srizzil Dart should work on cleaning up the garbage problem instead of just building malls that support his greed!
I want to move there and start a business. Clothing store sounds good possibly.
Anyone moving to Cayman - avoid GT Automotive! Biggest crooks on island they will charge you 4-5 times higher for parts than other shops. Parts for $185 they will charge $685. Biggest wessels shady bastards ever!
That's funny cause I'm considering a manager job offer there now thag requires a degree and no experience...at a resort
You must be white. They won’t hire blacks into those jobs. White skin is a universal key to high status jobs on the island.
nailed it!
Punctuation and grammar mistakes make me upset.
Thank you!
Studying to be a CA in SA from Namibia, how did you get to go work in a different country as a CA?
I just applied for a job online that was looking for newly qualified CAs.
Really? That’s actually really nice. If it wasn’t for that, would you still be in SA? Or you were really serious on getting a job elsewhere?
I wanted to travel so I would be looking for a job anywhere that allowed me to do that. I’m just really blessed it turned out to be Cayman.
I want to travel too but still figuring out my way through uni. I started a RUclips channel as you can see by my name so kinda keeps me motivated. Have a great day and keep up with the great videos, that drone gives the best and the different angles and backgrounds you use...creativity.
Love Cayman. I wish I could move there.
Trust me you don’t it’s a good vacation but once you live there it sucks
Who the fuck are you to say that as a caymanian I’m offended and if you are my age I would link up with you to fight.
What about hurricanes?
Thankfully I've never experienced one but it is a constant threat here.
The highest point in the island is only 25 feet above sea level. The rest is at sea level. Hurricanes will submerge the island with storm surge. My ex lived there during the last hurricane (I don’t remember which one) and even in 2014, infrastructure still needed to be fixed.
Nice editing
Thanks James :)
Sorry there is not a lot to do in Cayman beside water sports.
Loved this video amazing
would you advise a doctor (general practitioner) to work there
Don’t see any reason why not 😊.
okay perfect 🙂
There’s a brand new hospital on the island and the other is really nice too
You're quite inspirational. Do you intend to stay in the Caymans?
As long as I can keep working here, I want to stay for the foreseeable future. 😊
In other words "don't move to the Cayman islands is you are broke"!!!
Don't move anywhere unless there's a job waiting for you if you're broke haha
You should look for a part time job in promotion for Cayman.
One can dream :D
Hahaha! "Living in paradise and complaining about it" lmao.
I lived there too and while it’s “paradise,” what he says is all REAL! Not to mention how fing hot it gets between May and September.
If i could land a good job i would live on the Island.
How does amazpn work there?
It doesn’t really. Most amazon products don’t ship to Cayman so people use freight forwarders. Those can be a hit and miss too.
It doesn’t
Other downsides include people drink driving and poor driving resulting in so many accidents. Also very traditional values and rigid gender roles here, the LGBT+ people I know on island get treated very poorly and looked down upon. Also everything is very slow to process here.
Worth it though!
Very valid points. 👍🏼
Maybe you should move to SF!
talking about this they have created a LGBT+ and straight alliance club for anyone who needs support or want to meet other lgbt+ people in the Cayman islands
GAMESIC that’s awesome. There’s a great organisation called Colours Cayman too
I´m actually seeking for a job in Cayman Islands. Any recommendation? appreciated

Crime isnt as bad as Ameriva or elsewhere.
@@meshachmyles8712 ...its a beautiful place on earth
@@meshachmyles8712 what about the Jamaicans who stand along the road and cut up the iguanas then throw them with slit throats over then fence as a source of “entertainment?”
I lived there too and rent IS expensive. Peace out!

this is a expats view on the cayman islands, ask a local the real downsides😂
Of course he is an expat, but why should that matter in this instance? Isn't he living there and experiencing life on the island just as anyone else, be they born Caymanian or temporary migrant workers? When Srizzil speaks, he can only express his personal experiences; some experiences might be different from yours and some might be similar.
So tell us the downsides the locals experience. We’ll wait.

So excited 🙌🏼

Sorry but this feels like you had to dig pretty deep to find negatives, they are also vastly over exaggerated.
You can change careers (not overly hard)
While i think everyone agrees the dump is a problem, saying that it stinks up the center of the island is inaccurate, i have never once smelt it on a beach that's for sure
This just seems like a pointless video, like you lacked anything to talk about so came up with this.
Thanks for your comment Rob. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it. I made fun of the very point you are making at the end of the video, because you really do have to dig deep to find negatives to living in Cayman. Let me tackle the two issues you highlighted:
1) I was specifically talking about expats changing their careers.
Don’t leave your house - you have a LOT to

I love your videos bro,am an Accountant by profession seeking to relocate to Cayman islands.Am based in South Africa. Thanks for your information!!
You are most welcome, good luck with the search.
I live in cayman and it kinda sucks
Ah man, why do you feel like it sucks?
It's better than living in -25 degrees where I am right now.
@@jodidriscoll7194 beech, you’d be the FIRST one to complain about the oppressive heat and humidity in Cayman.
Tell um family!
yow i from the cayman islands to an all i sayin is preach cuz this video is too extra.
I from cayman too
Definitely... people who live here a minute amount of time telling everyone some bs like its gospel
Unna need to check out fargo007 comment i you want a good laugh... 😂😂.. said "we're all in-breds" 😂😂😂
I love Grand Cayman but it’s run like a neoliberal shit show.
LMAO... you should visit... seeing as we make people disappear pretty easy with out a problem.. ☺☺
@@andrewrivers5938 How are you going to catch me hobbling around on all fours? ;-)
