I'm glad that we have ultra wealthy people to preserve these historical pieces. Seriously though, these folks at these shows really do seem to love the cars. Really cool how they went for the asymmetric design on this car.
Erik Generik thanks for having your name spelled correctly ; and thanks to Mr. Leno for helping those of us who have no money AND no sense (we'd have the collection if we could)
I helped a friend build a race slant six, back in the early 70s and that engine could and would hit 9K RPM, but was kept to 8K for safety. He turned 10 & 11 second quarters in the Duster it was in, not sure of his differential choice, but he won most of the races in his class and beat quite a few small block V8s. With big slicks in back he could just lift the front end off the ground.
Awesome unique car! That guy seemed pretty cool too, its nice to see people enjoy a car like that and not just show it a few times and sell it! 23 years he has owned it, that's impressive. Keep up the cool bids Jay! You could probably start you own little TV show about this stuff!
The engine is a 170 cubic inch with the factory 'HyperPak' setup, of larger cam, Carter 3083 4bbl carb, tunnel ram style inlet and cast equal length exhaust,.. and yes, it'll rev to 9000, but it is the short stroke version of the Slant.
There is a history to this car that deserves reading. It was hidden in a foreign country so that it would not be confiscated and destroyed is my "translation" of what I read. The engine is equipped with a 4 bbl carb and the longer intake ram manifold. CHRYSLER called it a HYPER PACK. DODGE & PLYMOUTH completely dominated the 1960 & 61 compact car races at Daytona so 61 was the end. Ford & Chev had nothing to offer that would offer any competition . They ran about 150 in race trim (Valiants & Lancers). Chrysler also offered the "Slant Six" in a 225 ci version
Wish my slant sounded like this. But I'm still happy to have a early 60s slant in my old truck I drive every day let's me know I have done something right
9000rpm slant six OH MY GOD! The car is beautiful, the back looks like a sideways cross, very unique. The owner seemed so prideful of it as he should be, seemed like a cool guy.
In 1978 when I got my drivers license, I drove my grandmother’s 1968 mist green stripped down two door Valiant with the venerable 170 in.³ slant six. 94 miles per hour was the approximate top speed. One day, showing off with my cousins from the East Coast in the car I tried to do a 0 to 60 run on a 45 mile per hour speed limit expressway. Between 15 and 20 seconds I was finally getting close to 60 miles per hour and received a prize by getting pulled over by local law-enforcement. He had plenty of time to catch up to me, but fortunately I think I got off with a warning. Shortly thereafter, I got my own car for $1,200, a very sharp B5 blue 1968 Dodge Coronet R/T with a 440 Magnum with white interior and a white vinyl top. Needless to say, I had no problem getting up to 60 miles an hour (in about six seconds) and probably could have outrun the cops if I had to. 😎
Cool car, I guess especially for mopar guys!!! I want to see that slant six see 9 grand, I've had a couple in early and mid 70s dusters with standard trans they would barely make 6000 rpms!!!
@@billyoman4585 They did build two. The first one was from a guy who started but didn't finish the build, who also owned the fiberglass mold. That first completed car was donated to the Petersen Museum. They then bought the fiberglassing mold off that first owner to make a second one which they sold for a pricey sum.
I got 116 mph out of my 66 valiant 225 ci ' years ago' I'm sure It would have done more' but I backed off due to my fear of dying as a result of an animal running onto the road 'or someone ignoring a give way 'which I see all the time 'I'm happy to just cruise.

best owner ever, very excited and proud to show us. god bless him :')
I considered writing him a fan letter just now! 🤣
The XNR is literally my favorite car.
Home run Jay! Absolutley amazing looking car from every angle! And a NASCAR spec slant 6, 9000 rpm's!! WOW. What a rare special thing.
This is so cool! How did I not realize how cool this thing is? I've seen the Plymouth Explorer and this gives me a whole new love for that!
Erik Generik thanks for having your name spelled correctly ; and thanks to Mr. Leno for helping those of us who have no money AND no sense (we'd have the collection if we could)
I absolutely love asymmetrical designs, and this one is in perfect time-period form.
The owner of that car seems like a really nice guy.
Pretty cool guy for such a thick accent man he was right on point definitely nothing lost in translation!
Gotham garage brought me here! Fascinating history on this car!
What an awesome bloke, with his amazing 'Shahcar'.
Love how enthusiastic the owner is... I was afraid he was gonna be all 'RainMan' at first.
Thank you jay for showing us "regular" folks some amazing cars and helping us keep the dream alive.
XNR ❤
Man that Virgil Exner, what an artist.
Once again, thanks for giving your time to do these videos Mr. Leno. I have watched every one, and they are great!
Well done to this man for keeping the car in a museum so the public can see it instead off locking it up all year.
I'm a Huge mopar guy and I never knew that this car existed, its so awesome
Anyone else here from Car Masters???
Wayne yup😂
Gotham garage
@Ercan Özkan is that even real?, bcs i think all that was very impossible
Yes very real it is in the Peterson collection
Captain crankshaft short
There should be a show just about the owners...all interesting characters i bet.
this guy is truly exited about showing and talking about his car =] a true car guy.

He owns it but keeps it in a museum - most excellent.
agreed. it's nice seeing he's not just a rich collector.
Think about seeing this in 1960.. it looks like a bullet. So elegant.
This machine is up for sale this month in Monterey, CA at the RM Auction at The Portola Hotel during the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance week.
What a Happy gentleman. 😁 Thx Jay. 👍
A friendship waiting to happen between Leno and this guy! haha
So unique and i love that engine sound.
Boy this car sounds great
wow..beautiful car... absolutely gorgeous
Wow that is a awesome looking car and he has put a lot of money into that contour de elegance is lucky to have him
Wow, amazing story, & car!

What a cool one-off car. The engine can be found somewhere under that long hood, I'm sure of it.
Loved this! would love to see gm' s trio of firebirds 1954 xp21, 1956 & 1959, also the 1959 caddi cyclone!
A-symmetrical car?
Genius
The Design is beautiful

Slant six supercar.... Wow, that's cool.

You know this will be Jay's next car!

That rear end is gorgeous
Man he loves that car.
Thanks, great car & history......!
Love Asymmetric concepts..but my views could be a little one sided, even one eyed!
That's unique. The chrome on the back that crosses.
Love Jays reviews!
Can you imagine our humble slant six amongst the finest. Jay... a slant at 9000 rpm. So funny.
Christine's sportier twin!!
That car is one that influenced me at a young age. My 68 Dodge Dart slant 6 would do 105 MPH and not a bit more.
SO COOLL
what fun those days
This car's up for auction soon. I can't imagine how much money it will be sold for.
In the intro, what had the 2 stroke straight six with two distributors and two plugs per cylinder?
I saw this car years ago in a national geographic magazine on saudi arabia
thank you very much leno amazing....!!!!!!
another great video
This car is in Gran Turismo 6. Pretty cool!
Cool car, I guess especially for mopar guys!!! I want to see that slant six see 9 grand, I've had a couple in early and mid 70s dusters with standard trans they would barely make 6000 rpms!!!
I've had several slant sixes and every one of them would crack 100 mph.
Oh my Lord. So space age. Fine fine machine.
Beautiful....
i love how the guy touches everything with his hands its a car and it should be used!
saw it at amelia island when it was first shown!
They need bring the Plymouth back into production. They'll run on electricity.
Gotham Garage in Temecula CA. built two replicas of this car!
2 ? Wasnt it just one
They did one replica right?
@@billyoman4585 They did build two. The first one was from a guy who started but didn't finish the build, who also owned the fiberglass mold. Was that a Benz patent motor wagon at the beginning? Why didn't you talk about that one?
Silly question. Because the topic was this car, not that one.
Their is a replica of this car in the Peterson Museum in California.
I got 116 mph out of my 66 valiant 225 ci ' years ago' I'm sure It would have done more' but I backed off due to my fear of dying as a result of an animal running onto the road 'or someone ignoring a give way 'which I see all the time 'I'm happy to just cruise.
Yes it's old but it's still very easily possible to have AC. Besides, it could be condensation from anything, or just a leak.
Gotham Garage made two exact replicas, one of which went to the Peterson Museum
How many of these are stil out there and what is the selling price ?
Amsterdam here.
It's going to be auctioned 17 - 18 august by RM in Monterrey.
let me tell you something, when I heard that engine rev I felt weak in the knees.
Is that Alfa dumping coolant on the ground at 0:16?
that car looks a little goofy but the build quality looks really good
What ? Alfa leak spotted at 0:14 ? Between it's right wheel and the radiator, bottom left of the screen ?
Nice!
It's the MOST symmetrical road legal car I can think of...
"Whens the last time you saw an asymmetrical car?"
I saw a Nissan Cube a couple hours ago...
Gothem garage 👋😅
My grandmother had a 65 Valiant.
Is that a Hyper Pak?
wow i actually saw that car in canada
my mom also had a valiant!!
The rear window wraps around one side but not the other.
Hah, gotta love how one of the vintage cars in the intro is leaking water. Cooant? Overheating?
too cool!
Y U NO HAVE CAR SHOWS LIKE DIS IN AZ?!?!?!
Jay, do you know the name of this song ?
man the owner is awesome :P
anyone knows those three cars at 0:24? really would like to know
Isn't every car asymmetrical to some degree? Even a McLaren F1.
and Dean Jeffries Manta Ray (which I've seen in real life)
Wow!!!!!
yea this car will probably end up in his garage.
great
Jay's job is to repeat every thing.
