What is the original version of this? It's the end of an album, right? It's so close to memory it's killing me. Edit: one very important thought - boards of canada
It is 5am. You are driving in your red k-car down a pine forest road and the dawn spreads over the spires like quiet butter from god. Your passenger turns to you and says: Itsa me, Mario.
This somehow sounds even more nostalgic than BoC or the SM64 OST respectively. Really love the Telephasic Workshop-esque drums. I'd love to hear something more Geogaddi inspired, perhaps Lethal Lava Land.
I've listened to it once or twice a day since it was uploaded. Boards of canada are my favourite group and Dire Dire docks holds such a deep deep spot in my 8 year old heart. It feels like this video was made for me personally.
I love this. Boards of Canada has a particularly mellow post-apocalyptic sound that is also calming and sweet, and I think you've nailed it here. If it's alright with you, I'd like to use this in my next video. :)
The in-game version is breathtaking in it's own right but it's hard for me to surrender honestly to it as I associate the track with positive memories. Hearing this version, with the main melody of the track sounding like a Kid A/Boards of Canada underwater synth, I was brought to tears. In the video game medium, it's hard to separate the idiosyncrasies of the art from the fun that you're having when you immerse yourself in the virtual experience. However, if you step back and view this piece from an objective viewpoint, then you can start to dissect and consume it the way you would an album or film - what emotions does it evoke?. What kind of pain or feeling was the composer attempting to navigate when they wrote it? Where did they have to take themselves? An aquatic dreamland? A paradise where the sun is always setting? The embodiment of a fleeting happy memory - and the creeping feeling that things will never be the same again? Thank you for this thought provoking experience. Very well done.
When I first started listening to Boards of Canada, it would play in the background while I played Minecraft, so it has a very strong association there. With that said, something about dire dire docks fits this personal aesthetic perfectly. Thanks for sharing 🙂
I used to have MHTRTC and Tomorrow's Harvest in the background when I was playing my world that had a nuclear post-apocalyptic resource pack. I think it was called Last Days. Such fun times :D
This is the natural evolution of this concept and yet I find myself entirely surprised and enchanted by it. Also, this is one of my favorite video game tracks of all time, and I'm EXTREMELY picky about covers. Most of them don't do it for me. But this captures the spirit perfectly. Seriously amazing work you've done here.
Your uploads mean so much to me. SM64 and BoC are two things that I really love and it's amazing to see them together like this. Keep up the good work!! 🙏
wow. just wow. I completely zoned out looking at the trees out of my window this balming spring day remembering that red coin challenge in the liminal space of all liminal spaces of a self contained aquarium enclosed in what is essentially a clocktower in the sky while this was playing. So this tracks for BOC.
This is amazing it’s making me nostalgic for a time in the 90’s, that i have never had because i wasn’t even here, but i just imagine sitting alone at night playing dire dire docks, and falling asleep to
Omg this is such a cool concept!! I had an idea a while ago of super metroid's brinstar jungle area theme done in the style of future sound of london's lifeforms album
I had no idea how much I needed this until I heard it. This is expertly done; the synth tones are really fitting and the drum patterns are intricate, yet subdued. Incredible work.
Ooh that is fantastic, we're getting the reverse concept of the previous videos know, I love it! Sounds so gorgeous with those lush synths. You're able to capture the vibes of both aspects so well!
thank you so much for boards of canda my favorite artists ever this makes me beyond happy you don't understand I love any and all boards of canada stuff, so please make more
Great stuff, I’ve only found boards recently but they’re already one of my all time favorite groups. Would love to see a Mario 64 cover of telephasic workshop with all those little vocal samples
Mario Has the Right to Children

This is fitting on so many levels. Brilliant

Icl I recon it would suit the UNKLE sound font better
This feels like the ideal version of this song. How it was supposed to sound.
dire dire docks deluxe
Dire Dire Docks (Beta 1995 Credits Version)
I would've complained if this didn't feature an unsettling distorted vocal sample. Very well played.
Scared the fuck outta me.
or a porno sample
I read this comment RIGHT before I heard it lmao
Almost feels like the unsettling chainchomp is making the noise, too, least to me
Match made in heaven. Boards of Canada always had that same hazy watery vibe I associate with Dire Dire Docks
agreed ✅
we drowning in the docks wit this one
I’m glad I lived long enough to hear this. Thank you kindly musician person.
i’m glad you did too, i’m proud of you ❤
Love this reverse take, you have whole new parallel universes to explore
I see what you did there
Actually uncanny how through this soundfront I can 100% hear this theme being an original BOC song. Their sound is just magical
Now I'm imagining Bowser's castle theme covered by Radiohead

I never thought I'd hear on4word make a cover of a song where 64 games weren't the soundfont.
But this is gorgeous
Was screaming in anticipation for the drum break, this is absolutely bonkers, stellar job dude

C418 has suggested BoC was an inspiration for his work on Minecraft, so this is quite fitting
