My mom put a sewing machine into storage almost three years ago, after my grandma had a stroke. My grandma was a seamstress by trade. She taught me how to sew on a machine as old as I am. She just passed away, and my first reaction was to grab that old sewing machine. This video is just what I needed. But I’ll be honest - and I’m saying this in the spirit of constructive criticism - mentioning the Juki sewing machine with such frequency really made me feel like I was inferior for only having a hand-me-down Serger Fashion Mate. You seem like a wonderful educator and I can tell you’re passionate about it, and I love that. But you might want to consider keeping to a minimum phrases that sound similar to “my Juki does this” or “you don’t have to worry about that on my Juki.” Idk, maybe I’m a bit sensitive because I’m grieving, but those statements might be better used when not discussing used or stored machines bc god only knows why they were stored in the first place.
Finally found my stepdad's old sewing machine. The one he's been using since he was a young adult lol. I hope it can be salvaged without leaving a dent in my pocket and a broken heart if it doesn't work for very long.
I heard your interview on the Unraveling Podcast. Greg and Pam inspired me to up my knitting game and I am about to steek my first sweater and break out my grandmother's Singer. I am interested in learning how to sew button holes onto grosgrain ribbon that I will use to reinforce the back of my sweater's button bands. Thank you for the machine tips.
Great tips! I'm one of those who reads the instructions, and then when i go to use a feature i haven't used before i pull out the book and read it again. Like last night i used the overcasting foot and stitch on my brother machine. I read the instructions before i did anything. I've only had this machine for a month.
Great Video!! ALL YOU said even applies to my vintage Singer 66-1 treadle machine!.....One exception, it doesn't have a memory! LOL! But it does retain its previous settings😀 The point is...GREAT info and advice whether a machine is 100+ years old or brand new!

So glad that you hit 8,000. would love a new juki.
Missed you! I wish I had time to sew right now :( Being a "single" parent working full time leaves me like zero sewing time.
