  • We join Chloé Caillet in London, as she talks us through her creative approach to producing.
    Chloé Caillet’s percussive house productions have been catching people's ears, with releases on labels such as Circoloco Records & Keinmusik. In this episode she walks us through her DAW, go-to plug-ins and hardware preferences.
    Beat from Scratch is a unique insight into an artist's creative process in the studio. Starting from a blank session, each artist builds a track from scratch in their own style, exploring everything from drum and synth programming to mixing, arrangement and more.
    Thanks to Make A Dance & Next Door Records for letting us use your studio.

    Very cool! You know you can actually sync the tr8s to the grid so you dont have yo drag and adjust the clip each time. Just select the amount of space between the grid and the first kick and it will tell you how many Miliseconds you have of latency, then go to preferences, Link Tempo Midi, and in Midi ports, click the arrow of the tr8s and diminish the amount of ms :) it will be synced after that. Just know that the first Bar will always be out of sync because it needs a couple of ms to adjust.

    You can record 16 individual tracks from TR8s to ableton channels, why waste all that time recording one at at time. one edit will align all the channels. it would shorten this vid to 15 mins

    Strange way of tracking the drums especially as the TR8S has full USB out.. Why track each track one by one and play with the timing? Apart from that it was great

      Maybe she’s recording it through the desk for some saturation and eq

    • @blkrbbt
      @blkrbbt Год назад

      She could do that through sends...
      It's okay to not know that it can do that. Another reason could be usb is noisy, and maybe not enough inputs to hook up the individual outs

    • @Centomila
      @Centomila Год назад +2

      @@blkrbbt USB can't be noisy because it is a totally digital signal. She isn't using the USB output because that's not her desk (look in the description); you can't use two different sound cards at the same time. There are some workarounds but they will add too much latency for what i know.
      With the TR8S the alternative is using the 6 individual outputs with 1/4" cables.
      BTW if you can make it sound good, doesn't matter the signal chain 🙂🙂

    • @Rr0gu3_5uture
      @Rr0gu3_5uture Год назад +4

      @@matthewgarcia8450 There's no right or wrong way to use or sync gear, I'm also pretty sure that she knows what she's doing. In saying that, if you're using external hardware synced to a DAW via Midi you're always going to have to align your audio if you want any degree of tightness. Even more so, because everything is connected via USB these days, and Midi via USB is absolute fkin' horseshit because of issues like jitter and inherent latency. I don't own a TR-8S, but I did 2 mins of research and found that it seems to have a whole bunch of assignable Trigger Output options, but seemingly no Trigger Inputs, which seems a bit daft. If it had a Trigger Input you could use something like the free E-RM Multiclock Plugin software to generate an analog clock signal, then send this audio signal out from your soundcard and sent it to the Trigger Input of your drum machine. As long as you record your drums first, have no other plugins running, and keep your ASIO buffer size as small as possible, it's possible to sync your external hardware for free with virtually zero latency or jitter.

    Honey, what’s the point in using a TR-8s 909 samples if you have a original 909 in the background?

    • @tommyk88888
      @tommyk88888 Год назад +3

      The 909 drops a tiny bit in value everytime it plays a single kick sound

    • @Rr0gu3_5uture
      @Rr0gu3_5uture Год назад

      Although you can load samples into the TR-8s, the main sound engine doesn't use samples. It uses a DSP process called analog circuit behaviour that digitally recreats the analog sounds of the TR-606/TR-808 and TR-909.

      @@PRCRSTNTR I always heard that the hats on the TR-909 were 6-bit, but the samples were compressed and then digitalized so they'd have a greater S/N ratio and higher digital resolution. Apparently, the 3 ROM chips that store the sounds are only 32k in length, which by today's standards sounds ludicrous.
