When you think that there is nothing new to discover under the sun from a musical perspective Floor enters your reality and turns your musical world upside down and inside out. At 57 years young that's how it's been for me since I was persuaded to give Nightwish with Floor a listen 18 months ago having not heard of them before. The "Poet and the Pendulum" live at Wembley 2015 blew me away then and still and was my entry point to this wonderful rabbit hole soaking up everything Floor has been involved in as well as the three Nightwish eras and leading ladies. I've also dived deep in to the symphonic metal genre, a genre of music that I never ever imagined I'd enjoy, but enjoy I do. After Forevers live cover of Iron Maidens "Evil that Men Do" is 🔥. Thank you Daniel for sharing your journey with us. 🙏😊👍❤️
Floor was dynamite from the word go and After Forever were an amazing band that eventually gave us Epica with Mark Jansen and Nightwish with Floor. Happy days now but I really really miss After Forever and ReVamp.
You are missing Joost van den Broek, who would become not only a very respected producer but also musical director for Arjen Lucassen's Ayreon live projects.
Not on purpose, I could and should have mentioned Joost. But then all the band members deserve a mention. Jack Driessen, André Borgman, Joep Beckers, Lando van Gils, Sander Gommans, Bas Maas, and Luuk van Gerven for the many bands and artists they went on to work with. My main point is what a great band they were whatever the line up!@@ChrisEchoes
@@RonniePeterson Bas Maas has been with the heavy metal lady "Doro" for at least 10 years now - Doro & Nightwish shared the same festival back in 2013 before Floor was made official with Nightwish and Bas, in an interview, said that "Floor deserved to be the front lady with Nightwish" - I'm sure he was one that was 100% certain of making that comment
I love seeing people so flabbergasted, I didn’t find her until recently but definitely dove into her back catalogue as well. The gift that keeps giving!

I've been waiting for this one😃 Great reaction! I knew that this would easily illustrate why Floor was chosen for Nightwish. 😊 The woman can do anything!!!❤❤❤❤❤
Starting in 2003 when Mark Jansen (no relation) left the band to form Epica, Floor was the main lyricist for the band. She is listed as the lyricist for this song. After Forever was an amazing band. She was originally signed as a backup singer at 16 until they heard her sing. Intelligently, they put her up front.
When I first heard this song, I fell head over heels in love with After Forever (Floor's first band, which she joined at the age of 16). It took me a while and money 😁, but now I have all albums, single's and EP's, except Two... After Forever Demo's called "Ephemeral" and "Wings of Illusion" (my unicorn's)... maybe someday...when fate smiles to me 🤞. And, like you, I just adore this middle section, she just takes my breath away. Great reaction!!!! NWSU/FloorFan 🤘😎🤘.
This was the band she joined at age 16 her 1st band . After Forever 1995 - 2009 . then she started her own band Revamp 2009 - 2016. NOTE: when she joined Nightwish she tried to keep Revamp going till 2016 but then ended it and dedicated all her time to Nightwish .
I saw Revamp in NYC. 2014 tour... Sabaton, Iced Earth and Revamp!!! Was amazing, seeing Miss Floor Jansen Queen of Metal a gift to Human Kind, and Matt Barlow with Iced Earth, another iconic metal vocalist and the Mighty Sabaton.... So far, I have never missed a Sabaton tour since the first time assaulted US. Soil...🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Until 2021 when she began her solo career besides Nightwish. She recently stated during one of her solo concerts that she was disappointed that Nightwish did not want to tour for their next album because she likes to perform and thus for the time being her solo career became her first priority (until she collapsed in Finland after a Nightwish concert because being pregnant and working full force is not a good idea).
Hey My Dude now you know why I asked you to do this review, and that is why Toumas wanted her in Nightwish band, A/F use to tour with Nightwish as a support band, and that is how they knew about what Floor could do. And Thank You, Yes A/F where an amazing band, and they released 5 great Albums, plus other stuff, they were also one of the first female fronted metal bands around at that time, with Floor Jansen, One of the biggest and saddest things was, in their home country the Netherlands, where Metal music was not really excepted at that time there, So Thus A/F never really got the support they needed in there home land. I was lucky enough to see them live 3 times. Thank You My Dude, yes we can send you some more. 🔥🔥
AF were plenty popular in the NL. They were playing at major festivals, and every metalhead knew of them. They were even more popular in Latin America (to this day, half of the comments on AF videos are in Spanish or Portuguese). But they got royally fucked over by Transmission Records, and this was the main reason for their untimely demise...
Glad you liked it, and Floor can really do it all vocally. I love the middle part too, just her and the keyboard. Most singers sing what they can sing, Floor sings whatever she wants to sing.
They were such a great band - no one quite like them so it's a shame that they fell apart. Having said that, it ultimately led to her working for Nightwish, so, every cloud etc. I do hanker after Floor doing something heavy again where she is involved with the songwriting (although Northward filled that gap a bit, if only for the one project). She's brilliant with and for Nightwish, but as an interpreter of Tuomas's creativity. I like her venture into more of a pop sound with her solo music, but at heart, she is metal and wonderful at it.
This is also Floor before her burn-out. So much energy, her capacities all over the place, so demanding, incredibly disciplined. With Nightwish she can use all her skills, just to tell the story of a song, serving the composition. She is more at ease and therefore more grounded with Nightwish and singing her own songs now then when she was doing this in 2007. It's very impressive, this performance, though 😅 Floor was a Valkyrie Goddess already.
A question for people who were following this when it was new: How groundbreaking was it for a woman to bring some of these vocal techniques to hard rock at the time? Fairport Convention had Sandy Denny, and Renaissance had Annie Haslam, but they were much more acoustic based. It just seems like most metal fans would have been astounded at some of the things Floor does here...

I think you are spot on - this is where Tuomas got aware of the possibilities, in what a singer of Floor's caliber could do to his stories. After Forever also did a super cover of the Nightwish song 'She is my Sin'..

Funny how you didn't even mention the mastermind of AF himself. About 90% of AF music is written by Sander Gommans, who was the one who formed the band back in 1995 together with Mark (and kicked him out later for.. reasons).
