I had a black 63 corvette convertible with red interior in 1974.
327 340 hp. 4 speed, wonder bar radio and factory luggage rack.
Paid $1,500.00 for it!
I was 20 years old and had the world by the balls!
Got married and sold it.
Should have kept the car and got rid of the wife!
LOL. Ya live and learn man!!
She is a beaut! One owner since 1964... That is amazing!
And he has no intention of parting with it !! 😎👍
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Why am I not surprised?
I think you want a rock crusher trans, not a meat grinder trans...!!! Beautiful 63 Corvette...! I really hope that it stays original and doesn't get cut up like way too many of them...!! Thanks for sharing... Keep up your awesomeness...!!!
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
What an awesome old Vette.
I bleed ford blue, but there's no denying those 63 thru 67 Vettes.
I'm with you man !!!
You're first!
Remember.... With great power, comes great responsibility!
With a top on them, world class styling. 👍
Yes, best years of the Corvette. The 327 was the best match to the car, weight and power nicely balanced. She is a beaut, Kiwi
That car is beautiful. I really like the '62s, also.
Black with a red interior, it checks all the boxes!😎
I'd own it!!
Is always nice to see a car of this age, that has not been molested and has been taken care of.
It sure is!! Thanks for watching!
How beautiful this 'Vette is! Fantastic that it's one owner and truly loved all these years. "It's not a Hellcat..." Don't think many Hellcats are gonna make 60 years 😉
I think you're right!!!
The computers plastics will harden and become brittle and all the computers will destroy each other .
The 327 is just a killer small block, as well as the Ford 289. They can be magic in the right car.
They were great engines but need thrown out for a nice LS swap and big turbo with the tr6060 trans that's how you make a classic a non grandpa car!😁😁😁😉😉😂😂😂 stock is so so boring
@@r3d1911 That ruins a classic, I don't want to race it just enjoy it
That's a sweet corvette for sure ,it's refreshing to see a car that had honest mechanical faults . It's not a " nut and bolt restoration" by a flipper where your dealing with a death trap that needs tens of thousands to make it safe.
Couldn't agree more!!
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160the owner sounds like my dad. Just keep it going and do what needs to be done. My dad's one and only new car was a 66 Coronet that he drove for 30 years straight into retirement. It then became a weekend warrior and when he passed in 2011 it became mine. Other than rebuilding the original drivetrain to stock, it's still on the road wearing all its original patina.
Not really a corvette fan but this is a beautiful car.
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
Reminds me of a term that was common back in those days. "hittin' on all 8". Applied to anything that was working correctly, even workmen who were doing a good job.
Yes I remember that, hadn't thought of that till you mention it!
Fits Like a 🥊 ….
Helluva machine 👌🏼
Man I really LOVE them chrome shifters with the chrome knob, in '60s Vettes and Camaros!!!
You can actually feel what's going on through them too!!
kiwi hooning it up in the car park
That was a neccasary test drive officer....😬😎👍
Got to be a joy to work on any vehicle that old that is still original and hasn't been butchered. Very nice unit.
It is nice to not have to work through someone else's B/S 👍👍
Very noice car, good fun.
Very noice indeed 😜😎
What a beautiful classic Corvette. Great work as always .
Sounds a bit sweeter now. After Kiwi's magic touch ✌
Cheers mate!!
Nice job on the transmission mate, it really does have a tall 1st gear doesn't it. Who gaps spark plugs that much on an old Corvette like that? You did a great job Kiwi, i'm sure the owner was very happy with your work.. 🙂
It sure does. For me it makes it a 4 spd trans not a 3spd with a low, starting on a hill, gear. If you arrive at a tight turn you can drop it into 1st and haul ass outta there😁
I've got a 73 Buick 455 ci big block. If I drive her at highway speeds for a distance or just doing an Italian tune-up, plug gaps start to widen up. I check and re-gap my plugs once a year to keep it under control. Those big blocks like to open the points, too. I dwell her to 19 degrees and she LOVES it. Warmed, tap the key and she lights right off. THAT'S how I like my V-8 to fire up, almost instantly!!!
I love that 'Vette, but the wheel/tire package doesn't look right to me. Anybody else see what I'm seeing???
Young folks won't appreciate how quiet cars of this vintage were stock. Even a ragtop! Great little car!
One of my favorites!!
Young folks don't give a dam because all these old guys who bought these for nothing and think they are worth millions will find out our generation isn't going for it.
@@nb7466 that's an interesting perspective and I'm being genuine when I say that.
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 it's just true. People can't afford a daily driver. Why would someone my age ever pay the prices they want for classic cars? I don't know anyone with a classic car anymore. When I was a kid. My father and his friends all had one. Not anymore.
@@nb7466 it's kinda sad really
Full car tune up! Owner will sure appreciate the work
She had sat for a while and the owner had kinda forgotten just how well it went when running right!!😎👍
Amazing, it’s escaped being fitted with aftermarket wheels and fat tires, still has it’s original intake and carburetor, subsequent owners will correct all those deficiencies quickly, along with a full set of disc brakes. It sounded to me like a tire rubbing on bodywork, which is why I won’t be doing any diagnosis over my cell phone. It’s a beautiful car, I can see why the owner has cherished it all these years, I hope he has some nice drives this summer.
I can see that, hearing it live it was very metallic sounding though. Thanks for watching!!
The wheels do not look stock to me.
❤ beautiful. 👍😊🌏
Should be a T10 box for a 63.
Nice old car except for the tent. Real cars have foofs!!
Nice HK Monaro steering wheel!
Hard top - or better yet, the vinyl covered hardtop, which I think was only available in '67 for the C3s.
C2 convertible with the factory hardtop looks as good to me as the coupes!
Iconic car for sure. Someday you must hate your job. Lol be well
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
Beautiful survivor with one owner! Amazing, this car is loved.
Nice looking rig, they should be happy with it now, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
You deserve your own Kiwi......the Vette looks good on you 🍺
It's a Chevy I'd own for sure !!😎👍
Good job Kiwi……..!!! when I first heard that noise on de-acceleration, I would’ve sworn it was diff backlash…….
I was second guessing myself on that a bit too !
Awesome! :)
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
there were only 100 spit windows manufactured with the call back and they converted the 63 as rag and coups then in 1989 there was a count of 10 split windows left. get the split window money my personal choice is the 63 I only seen one in Vancouver at Darrell's Corvette classics that was being worked on
Good thing this car found you
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
Very nice. ❤
Kinda like the Apache Dash👍
Kinda. Some dna shared there!
I love the '63-67 coupes. Never been a convertible fan. The roof comprises a big part of the styling of most vintage cars. If that were a coupe, it would have had the one year only split rear window. My favorite Corvettes are the '74-'77 models. I bought an orange '77 back in '89, wound up selling that one, then bought a white '76, which I still have. Had it for about 25 years.
I was always a non-convertible fan too, but C2 and C3 Corvette convertibles, with their factory optional hard tops, suffer virtually zero styling penalty in my eyes. The soft tops, not so much.
I always thought the '68-'72 GM A bodies did not lend themselves well to the convertible top, whereas the '64-'67 GM A bodies still maintained about the same basic profiles as their metal-roofed brethren.
My dad brought a 67 427 home in 1970. Passed it on to me in 2005. Still runs great, and looks new.
@@paultrouskie1825 NICE. I used to work with a guy who had a gorgeous red 1967 coupe, 327 L79/4 speed in near new condition. Completely original. Matching numbers. He had owned it nearly 20 years, and had the complete history on it. He sold it, and only a few months later bought a new 2005 C6 base model. No way would I have given up the '67, unless I was giving up cars for good. But replacing it with a brand new computer car was the worst thing anybody could do IMO. I haven't seen him in over a decade, but I'll bet that C6 is worth half what he paid for it if that, and the '67 would have been worth more than he sold it for. I have to admit I would have been nervous driving the '67 on today's roads, with all the idiots out there.
Ill say this in a good way. Had i seen kiwi walking down the street ill never guess hes a mechanic..
I know, I'm too pretty to be working on cars right 😂🤣😂
Very Nice C2 Vette Roadster...probably much more fun in the summer than the coupe !
I Love it, and happy you could bring in back to owner in Great running condition.
Thanks man!!!
I call that a Big Win...nice going Mr Kiwi - running & driving good now...summertime on the way - I'd be driving that car every day
You and me both! Thanks for watching!
Kiwi looks good in the Corvette but looks way better in Large Marge 😎
Mrs Kiwi would look good in the Vette though😎👍
Beautiful mid year Corvette. Love the red interior and black exterior. Sounds like a trans rebuild is in order. I owned a 65 427 4 spd roadster, and there’s nothing like 60’s American muscle cars.
Now it is really good. 💙
What a sweet, simple car.
Sounded like a 1960s Irwin Allen space creature in the trunk.
Nice vette! Love the black with red interior. Nice work too, kiwi.
Am very grateful for your time and honesty sir. Blessings.
Nice car, Large Marge is getting jealous!
lol 😂😎👍
That block / brick work is amazing ,
I had to think about that for a second 😁😎👍
That happened to me before on an old C5 Chevy pickup 1963 it is the nut on the pinion gear has backed off it's going to break your your rear end if you don't fix it right away
I did check the rear end out but it was all in the trans. It can be a bit deceiving when your sat right on the rear axle in that tiny cab
When I was a teen in the late 1960's, I used to rebuild Borg Warner 4 speed transmissions like the one in this Corvette. Friends of friends would tear theirs up and I would fix them. I had a BW close ratio 4 speed 2.20 to one first gear in my CJ2A flat fendered Jeep with a tricked out 327 Chevy in it with 12 bolt 4.56 posi GM rear end and narrowed straight axle front end. The trans noise could have been worn out cluster gear thrust bearings, a missing or bent snap ring on the output shaft, or severely worn shift forks. I'm glad you got it sorted out. When you mentioned it missing on 1.5 cylinders, I immediately thought to change plugs, points and condenser to cure it. I also used to rebuild friends Rochester, Carter, and Holley carbs. The rebuild kit including new accelerator pump cost about $6 for yours back in the day.
That's a beautiful car and thankfully it was left mostly original. In 1963, we took a trip to the Van Nuys, California, assembly plant to see my grandmother's new 1964 station wagon being built. I tried my darndest to get her to buy a Corvette instead after seeing the Mako Shark Corvette on display there. 60 years later the station wagon sits in a dark garage North of Los Angeles, not driven since 1973. My Jeep sits behind a house in the weather in Pismo Beach, rusting away. I am glad you have the Corvette back on the road behaving itself.
Beautiful old car, well done mate. SVG doing a bit of derby driving over there, hahaha
He's just like his Dad!! 😎👍
Love the327,😊
Loved my M21 CR behind a big block 402 in 73 Camaro perfect street racer setup. Nice video sir thanks
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 with the three amigos all playing together life is good, you ,uncle and doc rock the block
What a sweetie! That is a gorges car. I really like the 1967 big block 'vetts. The later versions seem like Cuope de vorce rides to me.
Yeah I'm not a fan of any of them after 67
Good to see the owner had the sense to have you suss it out. Great job
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
Sweet survivor!
Hey Kiwi,
Tim here, YES, trans is NOT happy, i KNOW dif/gear sounds well, as thats my main bread and butter.......your correct, and becuz its in all 4 fwd gears, not so much in reverse, and once unloaded (coasting) its the trans!!!!..nice piece, u'll get it strait, i have 100% confidence!!...again, nice piece!!!
What a beautiful car👌👌👌
She sure is!!
Wow, nice 63! Hey Kiwi’s, what clutch set-up did you put in after the trans overhaul? I’ve also got a 63, it’s a C10 Hot Rod.. Needs a floor though, and custom roll bar and 5 point harnesses too. Completely gone over interior new seats all..soon thinking a Fall thing for possibly your shop. I’d love to show my truck and showcase Kiwi’s interior with Dakota Digital, lots more besides the floor fab. “Fall workload looking swamped?”
Great video, love that cockpit feel as you’d noted, so cool the old steel. Thanks for showing the 63 Corvette Convertible, nice!
Which fall ?? 😳
hi from Tauranga New Zealand lv your channel car nut myself
Great job!
Ok, I’ll be 60 this year and born the same year as this car. How old is the one-owner? Wow!
Older than us !!!
Looks like a 64. I thought the 63's had what looked like egg crates in the hood. The 64 was smooth.
Yes, someone else said that too. 🤔
I love the 63 split window. That would be the only car I buy if I can afford it
Lucky bugger getting to play with an early vette, from Dunedin.
Livin the dream mate! Thanks for watching!!
I thought my Datsun box with nearly 500K was noisy, but it's silent compared to that.
It was unpleasant for sure!!
I have that very same WCFB Carburetor sitting next to the computer here.... lolololol
Good stuff as always Kiwi!
Cheers mate!!
It's a 64, you can tell by the no fake vent hood and hubcaps, black over red?, very cool 😎!
as a kid i worked in a caryard just fixing the trade ins ,noisy diff or gearbox , used to jam as many bannana peels in there as you can
I've heard of the banana peel thing, did people really do that and did it work.....?
Happy Easter to you n yours.
Cheers mate, same to you!
Hell Kiwi, I was hearing a small click or tick in that slow back up. I'm partial to '73 454 coupe had 1 24 years and me a Mopar guy?
This may be the first time I've seen a cartridge oil filter on a Chevy V8 outside a museum.
What a nice old car,and one owner since 1964!One major problem with it tho,it's not mine!
Sounds like
Sounds like a differential
It did a bit but it was the trans
an old carburetor with non-working accelerator, I'd have never guessed. 🤣
Exactly!😁
ASE Certified Tech, here; one (or both) of the lower ball joints is squeaking; one of the valves are not functioning properly due to issues with incorrect geometry; and the whining you are hearing that is the same in all gears sounds like the pinion bearing in the differential. For it you will want to asses the contact pattern on the teeth of the ring gear because that misalignment sounds pretty knarly. Please keep us updated
A few people have pointed the finger at the diff but it was all transmission noise. I did suspect the diff but driving it in realtime pointed to the trans. You just can't quite get the sound and feel from a video done on an IPhone and uploaded and downloaded that you get from an actual test drive as you know. The seat of your pants tells you a lot !
U like cls ratio boxes coz ur a revhead at heart mate. Top job
lol, ya got me!! Thanks man!
Just curious, what did the gear oil look like and what level was it. I would suspect the owner constantly held the gear shift handle while driving all these years. I am surprised with that car being a one owner that they didn’t notice the misfire and hard start issue. It really shouldn’t be the first time for that. Cars that sit for extended times eat accelerator pump diaphragms regularly. They definitely made the right decision to bring it to you to get it fixed.
Rather than sink money into a gear box rebuild, I would've been tempted to throw the old Muncie Rock Crusher on the shelf and replace it with a Tremec 5 speed. C2's are my favorite generation Vette as well. Always loved the 1957 Corvette too. Broke my heart when I found out I don't fit in the damn thing.
Tempting yes but not on this old girl. She too original. Even made sure the tag went back on the trans in the same spot. 👍😎
Has a ’64 hood on it. 63’s had chrome grilles in the hood scallops
Hmm. Didn't know that...
👍👍👍
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
Kiwi-we absolutely love the work you show on your channel and have learned a lot from watching you. We have one big question about this video though; having a car with the same WCFB 4 barrel carb on it, and knowing how hard it is to find someone who knows what it is, let alone finding a place that has a rebuild kit for it, where in the world did you get the parts from to mend that fuel mixer?
C2 Vettes are very desirable. No doubt that's a transmission whine you might also want to inspect the rear trailing arm bearings they are usually problematic on Vettes. Nice 63.
I would have splurged a little on the red pigment. 427 though. Sweet bit of glass.
I'm not sure.... with the small block it's such a well balanced package but the big block is, well, a big block......🤔😎👍
Can you imagine that for the Corvette's 75th anniversary in 2028, GM produced an old school C2 with of course the safety updates. It will never come to pass because of emission issues tec. etc., but.....
M22 Rock Crusher transmissions with straight cut gears 😊 were noisy
Oh yeah they were!!!
That is a 64 vette. Has 64 hood and 64 gauges. I owned 2 of them. Tranny sounds like a rear pumpkin pinion gear. Might have to tighten the locking nut so that the gear makes correct contact.😅
Yeah it appears she is indeed a 64, owner told me it was a 63 so I just ran with that. It wasn't the diff as it turns out. Didn't have to touch it. It was all trans noise
It'll come out I had a 65 Coupe it's kind of tight you just got a kind of pull it back and she'll drop out I did it laying on my back so you're lucky you got a hoist piece of cake
Usually input shaft bearing - SOP Trans rebuild .
That carburetor needs a little bit of Quadrajet
Yeah there's a case for that🤔😉
The wrong spark plugs? That deserves a right good spanking and to never touch this classic ever again ;-)
Agreed😁
327 with a close ratio! Does life get better?
Makes for a fun drive !!!
Yes, 427
Sounds like a dust cover over flywheel
Yea it did a bit. But that noise wouldn't go away on trailing throttle 👍
All it needs now is a set of correct whitewalls
Pinion bearing(s). Not the trans.
No sorry, diff is fine, it was all transmission.
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 I was thinking the exact same thing as @budehrmann5902. Seemed odd that a manual trans noise didn't go away in 4th, also seemed odd that you didn't say what was wrong with the transmission, or show the overhaul. What part of the trans was causing that noise that was changing pitch along with road speed and not engine RPM? Mainshaft bearing? Don't get me wrong, I love this channel and I'm not trying to point any fingers, I just really would have liked to have seen an explanation and maybe pics of the failed components. Just kinda frustrating not to be given any explanation as to what happened. Yours is one of my fave channels, for the record.
Nice car...LS swap it with with a nice turbo and tr6060 and a monster clutch nice fast Mickey et Street RS out back get about 800+wheel horsepower that's how you fix that sound😁😁😁😉😉
Or a Cummins diesel.....😉😎👍
Judging by the hood, dash and wheel covers, pretty sure that is a 1964 Corvette.
A couple of people have said that. I just went off what the owner told me ....
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 You have to be an OLD Corvette nerd to know the differences, lol.
sounds like the speedometer cable
It was a bit loud for a speedo cable, mind you Marge's one got pretty loud there for a while😬
Got a twilight out
Kiwi defiantly knows his way around cars and does some absolutley amazing work. Not so much around camera operations, sound checks and editing!! Maybe one day though. Sure would make a great channel!!!!
That's definitely diferential.
Nope, it was all in the transmission.
sounds like loose pinion at rear imput
I did have a question mark on the diff but it turned out to be the trans.
