Lachlan is the most true freak of nature in mtn biking history. No power meter and no HRM at Leadville is wild. He probably was the only riding in the field of 1700 that rode that way. Flatted and still found a way onto the podium. Love it.
It's especially bold to run no HRM or power meter at such a high elevation, where you can so easily cook yourself. However, there are some disadvantages to having the data right in front of you all the time. At elevation, you can get too focused on what kinds of power numbers you think you should be able to do, instead of focusing on how you feel, which can lead to going too hard or too soft. Also, if you set a wattage or heart rate ceiling for yourself, you limit yourself and therefore eliminate the possibility of being able to do something extraordinary on race day. Some riders are really good at pacing themselves based on feel, and others are terrible at it, so it's a case of what works best for the individual.
@@thomasanderson9545 yeah, that works everywhere except at altitude. My buddy just raced it and did an 8:31 but said he could not get his heart rate above 140bpm going up Columbine which is 20-30bpm lower than how he trained at sea level. You almost have to have a power meter at Leadville.
@@kevindiguglielmo8544 After doing MANY MANY hours of training specifically for this race, id imagine theyd already get the feel of their bodies, still insane to run no HRM thought lol
He mentioned having to put overly long stems on the medium and not liking the feel of that. Might feel a little disconnected from the steering. The XL is just longer too so you’ll get more stability on it naturally I guess cause of the longer wheelbase
I love how specific and intentional every single component is setup at this level of racing lol.... I used to run different sized tires and pressures when I couldn't afford new ones so good to know I was actually ahead of the pros! 😂
I am thru hiking the Colorado Trail i saw you at the mount massive detour yesterday it was dumping rain and hail everyone was cranking it was very uplifting then the sun came out haaaaa lego brudah!
Happy to see Lachlan is not just following the trend of running a smaller bike. Running a larger geometry should definitely provide more stability, while still providing more snappy control.
Very cool, but my concern, if he's only 5'11" and the bike is an XL, this tells me someone that is actually tall, like 6'4"+ will be out of luck for sizing
I admire the flexibility of someone Lachlan's height being able to ride an XL, even though this would almost certainly be a horrible idea for any non-pro to try to copy. He's going at speeds where he needs the stability; the rest of us at 6"0 or 6"1 need to stick to M/L frames or invest in a lot more yoga lessons . . .
Terreno Zero is a terrible rolling tyre, despite what you would think when you look at it. The center thread has like 3mm rubber under it. It’s good against punctures, but most of us would run tubeless anyway. The Dry variant is way better, more grip and faster rolling.
Your bars are still too wide. Keegan and Dylan are running 37 amd 36 cm road bars respectively. You need to cut it down to 38 cm and use bar ends like in the 90's MTB.
@@adventuresona700dollarhard5Unbound is not Leadville. But last year a lot of riders showed up on bikes like this. Both winners in men’s and women’s category hat flat bars (just checked photos). When the 2023 winner Keegan moves to drop bars in 2024 you can interpret it as a sign. But you are right: We do not know the winner 2024 and the winner is always right about the choice of material.

Weirdly enough this years women’s Leadville winner Melisa Rollins said she also didn’t use HR or power melter! Cool to see people racing by feel

This guy just makes me smile
Lachy is the man! Love his creative builds for these races.
Sweeeet good luck Lachlan!!
We love ya Lachy! Keep inspiring us nuts!
Good Luck !! You’ll always be my favourite rider…

Lachlan Morton, Unbound 2024 winner: "I'm not a big strong boy"
difficult to focus on the information after he revealed he 'played around' on a medium but decided to go with an XL. Like, how?

Love to see how the on-sided pedal mod was done!
Crazy pedal mod! 😮

That's a hell of a bike. Good luck Lachlan ☘

Half pedals and a semi-slick rear? This sport is madness. lol. I love it!

quite the size increase!
Why the XO cranks rather than XX?
im guessing they r more durable
He can get anything he wants from SRAM - so it’s a preference
Stiffer, unique size?

I basically have a Lefty Echo because of him. Love mine.
Bicicletta fantastica 👍🏻
Buona fortuna Lachlan 💪🏻
Phenominal bike! Best of luck
Love to see how you modified your pedals. 😎
this guy saved bike racing
Good Luck Lachlan! 👍🏻
Where can I order your saddle? I can’t find that exact one. The others I see have a wider nose.
Good luck and go fast 💨
im surprised how different his set up is to keegans, full sus, dropper, and straight bars. honestly its all about the tires i think.
go get 'em Lachy !
that bike kiss at the end, that's 'good karma'.
Anyone know what headset cap Lachlan is running instead of the stock Cannondale Scalpel one?
Good luck Señor Morton, from México...
First full squish rider I seen today.
Such a good looking bike.
No power meter or HRM? lol. Love this guy
Good Luck hero
go LACHLAN
Sick!!
nice to see :)
i wonder if lachlan uses data for training

Thank Lachlan....say hi to Angus !
My bike too! 😘
No drop bars like Dylan Johnson and Keegan?! Good luck lachy make em pay

weight????
😂👻 good luck Lachlan
Not enough negative stem. I'm disappointed. 😂 Lets fucking gooooo!
From a super duper negative stem to an XL frame? I’m confused what size frame was last years stem on a medium?

Also using an airliner with that tire
It desperately needs a dropbar.
Imagine not using drop bars in 2024 😅
Figured you'd ride a Scalpel HT...hmmmmm
looking forward to listening to him moan all video about how hard it is to get paid to ride bikes....
I love Lachy. But I don't think those gravel tyres are the move. They roll slower than the vitoria mtb tyre AND have less grip.
FWIW he is using a XC tire up front
@@robstukenborg8482 Wich have a lower rolling resistance..
The rear tyre punctured very early in the race. Lost it.
I hate those scapels. Put a normal form on there…be a nice bike.
