- New York's new minimum wage law is getting mixed reviews, as the companies who opposed the change have responded by limiting workers hours, making it more difficult for customers to tip.

The fees are so expensive that people don’t bother to tip anymore
I don’t use Uber eats app often as I used to since the new law kick in
If people can't afford to tip maybe they should go get the food themselves.
@@Mr.A_nyc well I mean that’s why there aren’t that many orders now. You save more money picking it up.
I just choose the option to pick the food up myself.
All the fees go to the company! Ask yourself who is the one going to the resturant and delivering your food to your doorstep often times on the 12th floor with no elevator! Don't you think that person deserves a tip???
This woman initially said the minimum wage would help delivery workers to not depend on tips. But immediately after shes complaining about not getting tips? Greedy mfs
My Latino are all greedy , look what they have done in California
yeah im not tipping after these fees
They live in hotels and apartments for free and get three meals a day. All the money they make is sent back to their home countries.
Americans have to pay bills, rent, insurance, etc.
This is the why News need to talk to a US citizen because we going through this to
There’s Americans working gig apps too ..u dnt have to tip it’s n option so relax
Consequences of listening to activists over economists
EVERYBODY needs to agree TO STOP TIPPING for anything.
So true. In Asia it’s an insult to tip. Plus none of these delivery drivers tip the people making the food.
Cooking is not hard. people are just lazy.
If the photo your using as your profile is really you. I want a hug@nevvyyy2
Work on delivery app is self contracted, so it makes no sense to get paid by the hour.
its not getting paid by the hour, but by the time it takes you to get there. Lets say the ride is 30 minutes long and you get 3 dollars for your time and no tip. NYC has now made it so for that 30 minutes u get paid for that 30 minutes for the hourly wage you're supposed to. I know delivery workers are making like 7 dollars an hour and now they are making 14 so it doubled because of this
@@AmusingPlayer you get a fraction of $17.50 an hour for the time you are driving towards your customer. So really it’s the same, not to mention gas matienece and other expenses. You can also wait 3 hours with no orders and make $0 for that time
@@AmusingPlayerwho in the right mind will pick an order if it takes 30 minutes to get there? food will be ice cold.
it happens a lot and ive seen delivery drivers running over red lights and stop signs to get there in time @@PatricioGarcia1973
By the time you pay service fees, deliveries, and taxes - your order is high. Look at what’s happening in Seattle right now.
If it means we can stop tipping it’s worth it but yeah the drivers still get upset when you tip less.. already getting $27/hour but their entitlement is crazy
@@coronamae8246 oklahoma is much cheaper. Gas here is $4-5/gallon.. likely will hit $6 soon. We’re usually a month or two behind Californi
That one guy said he has to support his family in his country. How is this good for the US economy if they are all sending money home while living off the taxpayers in shelters and all the rest of the benefits. The more of these people coming the more competition and less work available.
I am a US citizen and I’ve been doing Uber for 5 years it’s not only migrants doing gigs
It's not, but is good for companies that are taking advantage. Politicians of both parties support open borders for differing reasons. Dems for more voters, virtue signaling, etc. Reps to appease big business. It's appalling how honest working Americans are being sold out.
Companies don't care about this country. That's not what they're in business for.
This question is framed in such a clueless and absurd way.
and do they report the tips on their income taxes? Because I would assume to work for one of these companies you have to provide information and a ss# for their W2.....
When I was in H.S (in the 1990s) pizza delivery was primarily done by teenagers, who wanted a part-time job to make a little extra money to buy things at the mall, prom, etc. Times have certainly changed.
No teen is delivering during school hours or at like 11pm. Do you even live in NYC
@@Zero11_ssmaybe that’s in the suburbs
@@Zero11_ss I am a Native New Yorker. My point was, in the 90's, grown adult men weren't delivering pizza and other food items, expecting such jobs to support their families. Those delivery jobs were reserved for teens, who delivered pizza on the weekends and on Fridays, in the evening, after school.
Additionally, fast food employers hired a lot of teens (on a part-time basis). In the 1990s, there were so many part-time jobs available for teens.
Most American adults worked in either white collar professions or blue collar jobs. American society was very different. Just look at the old footage of NYC in the 1990s and you'll understand.
Also people in the 90's, most went and got their own stuff and not have it delivered. I find people are more lazy or these apps are too convenient.
@@herbertc1114The lock down people could travel as far, work from home, elderly sick etc.. in many home deliveries have improved quality of life for many people.. Yes Un skilled adults and our new Biden migrants are the new deliveries..
Call The establishment directly .. save 40% easy peasy
Exactly, avoid the middle man because that's all these food delivery apps are. However their are a lot of restaurants that don't offer their own delivery service which is a horrendous business decision on their part, but that's gonna change when they start noticing no one's ordering through Uber, Grub Hub and Door Dash anymore because the middle man fees are just to high.
Exactly
Or just go in person.
🫡
I noticed a 5% increase in service fees from both doordash and uber eats. At that price point i will just pick up the food myself. Its delivery fee, plus 15% service fee plus sales tax, plus TIP….
At times it’s double the cost of my food.
I ordered a pizza and with all the fees and then tip, it ended costing me almost $60. Walking to the place, getting the same items and walking back would have costed me $39.00. never again getting delivey thru apps
The key "I have to support my family in my country"...
Not America, oh no, America is not his country and America is not where he is spending his money...
$20.00 a Hour and they want a Tip
$17.96 a hour active time with a schedule of reduced hours
@@RI-yf2ufso the application control your schedule?
@@inmortal131only 5 hours a day they allow for 4 days
about $12hr in reality.
The new pay standard is $17.96 a hour of active time not $29.93. The news should have reported on that to
Agreed
Exactly!
@Rl-yf2uf
Well even $17.96 hr for delivering food is nuts!
That cost hits the one ordering food.
So, it’s cheaper to pick it up one’s, self or cook.
No way they’ll should be making more than a person working harder jobs.
@@Onlyhonestyfirst so try doing it see how long you last
@@Onlyhonestyfirst I'm not sure if you're agreeing or disagreeing however let me say this
That wage is ONLY if:
- you haven't made an average of $17.96 per hour
- when you hit accept for an order until the time it's delivered/canceled
People are also forgetting another major factor why there’s less work…there’s thousands of new delivery workers…
I don’t think that’s too much of a problem because there are some individuals that order like 10 times a day. NYC is a big city the main issue is the prices are too high.
Unfortunate saldy to say this.... delivery jobs arent meant to make a career. If nyc is too expensive for you maybe its time to leave.
now that they $20.00 per hour , I dont need to tip.
They ignored the thousands of delivery guys in NYC that have basic economic knowledge and said this would lead to controlled hours and less tips. They IGNORED those delivery workers and now look. They're whining.
Facts on facts
They want to make a side hustle into a career to send money overseas…good luck kiddos
US citizens do gig work to not only migrants
You're talking about something you dont understand. There's levels to it silver, gold platinum, diamond. To earn these levels, you need to do it full time. Dont believe everything you hear kiddo
They gotta support they family and his country 😂
I thank these apps for existing more and more. They made me start cooking and ever since then I haven't looked back. I don't order food through these apps anymore, it is simply not worth it
Welcome to NY Immagrants.
Right. It sucks for all of us. It's almost like if they weren't here then they wouldn't have to deal with this....
The deliveries are going down and hours are going down because people will not pay the exorbitant fees and charges and then tip as well! I have been cooking at home and have not used a food app since last summer!
i havent bougth mc donalds or chinese food since the pandemic years, so basically in three years, and prior i maybe ate out at fast food or chinese food places maybe 5-7 times a year.
Like 10-12 years ago i would eat mc doanlds and chinese food like 20-25 times a year. Because a plate was like 4:50- 5 bucks and came with a free soda. Now these chinese food stores are adding their own taxes to the bill, so you pay about 2 dollars extra and the food is like 11-12 bucks a plate.
So now i just cook at home, i have toaster oven or rice cooker i can cook a meal in 15-20 minutes.
how many people wanna tip when a hamburger already cost $18 , there isn’t anything special about you bringing food to me when I can go get it
💯
How much they want &100 hrs ????
The company is punishing the workers because the company has to pay minimum wage.
Things will work out in the end.
Tips are gifts and companies need to pay an hourly minimum wage.
First the male news achorer is an idiot what did he say? "Reduced hours makes it difficult for customers to tip?" That doesn't make any sense. The real issue is that receiving errand request with decent frequency so you dont waste your time is no longer happening. You get 1 errand request for every 2 hours or so so in the end you are not making much money after this nyc law thing. Then the complainers that do this in the video were blaming customers not tipping. Wrong again it is the reduced frequency of errand request coming in that is causing the pay to not be any better.
I was working these jobs before migrants came. Most of my friends too. All American citizens. These people messed it up for the American citizen that relies on these apps to make money.
No americans had a problem with the pay.
Nobody wants to say it but its the only job they can get because they just get a legal citizen to sign up for them. This migrant crisis should be a top issue for delivery drivers in these cities that want to bring everyone in and have no work for them. The method is to get here and work on the delivery apps. Oversaturation + minimum wage bills will kill any type of real earnings.
COPE
I’m in Los Angeles been doing gig work 8 years now and 80% of the gig workers here work illegally under a relative’s account and are migrants… taking away orders from people working legally like me. ruined this line of work.
lol shut up, its americans that complain about pay and tipping. these migrants will work for lower pay and won't complain about it. i see americans throwing a tantrum because they "only" got a $5 tip 🤣🤣
Supply and demand in action. Those who rely on such gig work are being undercut by migrants. The companies know this and are taking advantage. Another cost of open borders and not enforcing laws.
Everytime an app-based delivery service has to comply to a governmental mandate, the service adds an extra charge to the customer. This has went on for years in the west and just makes it harder to tip as the food itself continues to get more expensive.
I did delivery on the side for a few months, and I loved it because I had complete control of my hours but now I’ll never do a side gig that doesn't let me control my hrs
Someone tell Adams NYC is not setting any type of tone for any part of the rest of the country.
It’s exactly what many said would happen.
End of business if they increase food prices
All the drivers have fled to Boston. We have thousands of mopeds flying around Boston now. No one knows what to do it’s crazy.
Too many gown adults working jobs meant for teenagers and too many imported workers.
I have no sympathy, or care.
@@chriszenko3598lies. It still exists and the newspaper delivery is not that much either. Stop it.
Is there a rule saying Uber is only for teenagers? Are regular food deliverers all teens? And those aren't "imported workers", they're illegals who are using someone elses account who is legal to work here. Yeah, I have no sympathy for those people.
Facts dude
Fr, people need to get an education
I don’t order unless I have to, its more expensive than dining at the restaurant. Portions are bigger at the restaurant.
Delivery apps are not really worth it. They charge more per item than the restaurant does and after service fee and tip, that an extra meal you just spent. They are useful if the restaurant is far and don't have their own delivery
Always tryna change something. Sometimes u need to leave things alone
Stop tipping it is ridiculous! Deliveristas are getting pay almost $18dls an hour! Start cooking healthy meals. I’m tired to deal with moppets/e-bikes, scooters on sidewalks or in front of buildings, homes or businesses and you can’t even feel safe because it’s no space!!
I do feel sorry for the delivery workers, but the price for an average item is priced gouge on top of paying for their delivery, and on top of paying for door dash delivery is outrageous. I guess I'm left with no option but to stop being lazy and get it myself from now on and save on all those delivery charges. 😢😢😢
Guys it’s the cost & the fact that all these new workers that Biden brought in. That’s why there’s less work
These gig jobs were never meant to be made a career of. They were to supplement your existing income but unfortunately all the "migrants" flooding the city makes that impossible now.
Higher guaranteed minimum wage and still want tips. Essentially double-dipping. I'm with the companies on this one. Either one or the other. Tipping needs to be legislated out of existence. Not just for gig apps, but in general. Even places like Five Guys, which isn't a sit-down restaurant, ask for tips when ordering. Sure, one can say no, but can lead to nasty surprises with the food.
The new pay is $17.96 a hour of active time with a schedule of reduced hours
Driving isn't a skill worth anything. Step it up and get good at something valuable. Government isn't your savior. Get real.
Keep driving the fees up, People are just gonna have to go get their own food
Uber wont even let me go online anymore. "Not enough demand in the area"
Gotta use the planner feature
The companies arent limiting work, they need to get orders delivered. The reason there is less work, is because there are less orders.
I would actually be more likely to use the app, now that tipping isnt there.
These delivery workers would be a complete fool to not think this was gonna happen and this is coming from someone who did Uber eats in New York City as a side job
I don't believe in tipping since day one.
Don’t use delivery services. Do your own shopping and grocery.
ok hold up on one hand this law is so that the people who do deliveries don't have to depend on tips. on the other hand these people are conplaining that now they are finding that the same people are getting less tips. like the old saying goes. be careful what you wish for. you may get it in the way you don't want.
Yes now when I order the top option is gone and I don’t tip also service fees are high now . Uber eats and grub hub costs could very well be causing inflation. They double charge you for food
Wow, it’s almost like nobody thought this through😂😂
People don’t understand, with the raise in minimum wage, these company need to raise fees as well, which people might not wanna pay, I was gonna order food from a spot that’s like 15 min away and saw the total, I walked it instead.
So? Does that now mean $45 pizza? And $55 chicken wings?
Might as well go out for lobster!
$2000 minimum wage. One can soda cost $5000.
The problem is that these great latino's both in California and New York are extreamly greedy, jobs like this is supposed to be for our young people to get a head start in the work world while learning skills and making food and food delivery affordable . This job is not meant for old farts to support there family and there family back home- do they deserve a tip? - no they get paid more than eonough. You can't have your cake and eat it too !
The last time i ordered food was like 15 years ago. I don't like the whole concept of it.
Duh
cool so now i wont tip
Personally I don't order food from any of these companies because the service charges are ridiculous. I either go to eat in person or cook at home. Also, the delivery guys on the e-bikes riding on the sidewalks makes life too dangerous on the streets of New York. We have to look four ways when we walk down the street!
Uber eats want to charge you $18 in fees and tax for a $6 salad… Tell uber eats to tip you because I’m certainly not.
That why most pizza shops and Chinese restaurants only take cash and don’t use third party delivery like uber eats or DoorDash or grubhub and they’re doing better. The delivery people get tips in cash.
When I ordered food the delivery fee can be super high, I’ve seen some that’s 7, 10 to 17 bucks! On top of the service fee and courier fee which can be 5 to 7 bucks? And they want us to tip after that? My meal was 23 bucks and on top of Delivery and the service fee it was 45 Dollars.
Should learn a trade to find a better paying job with an addition to moving to affordable place to live. Aim for long term goals that will pay off better, literally. Cut down on unnecessary costs or live within means. We have all been there, sacrifices have to be made for a better future in the long run. There are plenty of jobs, you just have to keep on sending on those applications and check for new postings everyday.
Paying someone hourly reduces the incentive to hustle. I rather have the ability to choose high tip orders as opposed to working for a minimum wage to deliver no tip orders….
How does limiting workers hours limit there ability to tip…?
Maximum wages from the government. Employers cutting the hours.
The fees charged and up charge from restaurants when ordering delivery are crazy. Uber/Doordash etc should pay them more because they’re doing the work.
Bring back ice
Delivery apps are the worst type of technology company. They take a service that people use for convenience and continually the service and quality goes down while the fees and prices continue to go up.
These are jobs for teenagers, not for grown @.s s adults.
Who says this is a job only for teens, WTF?! There are many adults doing this gig, either on cars or bikes, and as part time or full time
@@anonthenon196a grown ass adult should not be a door to door food delivery driver. Get a fucking grip on reality
A delivery job was never meant to support a family
If restaurants are forced to pay more, they'll just choose not to use the app for their food deliveries. If they don't make much money on deliveries, there's no point in wasting their time and resources. It's just like California, they increased the minimum wage and people became unemployed. Restaurants and other businesses closed due to bad laws.
Not even ordering Uber Eats anymore. I'm done with prices, frees, services and tipping.
It's really a double-edged sword they got what they asked for they got the wage they wanted.
Somehow they thought they were going to get the tips on top of it and it was going to be amazing.
If anybody has ordered for any of these apps the prices are ridiculous and now they pump up the fees and then they don't include the tip anymore they put it at the end.
I mean if you're making 20 to $30 an hour and your demand for increase pay and I believe it's deserved if you didn't think it was going to be passed on to the customer how are you going to get your extra pay?
Basically you got to suck it up it's something you fought for you did anything through you thought customers were just going to be like oh that's great you're making more money now and I'm paying a lot more and for this I'm going to even tip you on top of it.
You have to realize that's delusional.
The people ordering from these apps probably aren't making much more then the delivery drivers per hour.
Be careful what you wish for!
Be careful what you demand for.
what did they expect
Stop delivering for the companies that don’t pay and they won’t make money and have to pay
That’s the thing they dnt think essential workers are even human. So while we hold the world down the world thinks we dnt deserve a thing. Smh
U can't feed the whole family on delivery. Anywhere in the world
Now why is this our fault it’s the greedy companies who people need to be mad at
The same happened with TlC drivers now are paid less than before and Uber and Lyft making more money
I’m pretty sure if not everyone is barely scraping by if in any instances you wanna treat yourself or your girl to outside food you barely have enough for the food!!! Why tf would the person ordering then postpone for tip most it’s not even worth it to order out deleted all the apps a while ago
If I see illegal immigrant deliver my food then I definitely not tipping. You'll learn the hard way 😂
As a delivery worker these laws are horrible. It was better how it was originally. Those Deliveristas really screwed the system
How about developing skills that are in demand. Let's talk about that.
Doordash is a side hustle In saying this as a dasher
I agree, never rely on tips in nyc
Congrats on completely missing the point of the video. They were making way more in tips BEFORE they they had a mandated minimum wage. Again, they used to make MORE on tips.
The problem is these latino's got greedy and this is the consequences @@truthteller4442
Why can't customer's tip when they place their orders via Uber Eats???!??? So now the option to tip disappears bc of a min hourly wage, which by the way is only $17.93 living in NYC! So it's an offset NOT a benefit! I'm not stupid!
I'd NEVER tip if they have a foreign accent
The only time they blame minimum wage is when management is incompetent and doesn't know how to run a business or when they are going to raise price on people and pretend its because of minimum wage as if that is the majority of the service or item cost - its not.
I thought these jobs are not suppose to be a career move.
other 1099 workers should complain too.
Customers don't have endless money. Get in the habit of home cooking and you won't want multiple people handling your food.
this makes no sense.
is cheaper to go and pick up your food yourself than getting it delivered. I ordered a pizza and a salad, they charged delivery fee, plus the uber fee, and still had to tip the person, cost? 59.00 dollars
This industry flourished during the pandemic. From the git it’s days we’re numbered. The prices are unsustainable in that they’ve depended on cheap labor. These workers don’t understand that. If you can’t support your family in “your country” then maybe you should go back to “your country”. Delivering food is not a career.
What kind of society is this? People cry if they don't get their food or package deliveries. Facebook outages OMG end of the world. Ridiculous.
These illegal hipsanics are ruining the business, DLETE ALL THE ACCOUNTS THAT THE INFO DONT MATCH THEIR CREDENTIALS
Well the reason why we tip at restaurants is because waiters and waitress aren't paid minimum wage... so it stands to reason people aren't tipping "deliveristas" as much
