Trace…I learned a long time ago…for intonation, move the saddle in the direction the tuner is pointing…if its sharp, then move the saddle back like the tuner is pointing…and the opposite if its flat…just a little trick, hope this made sense!!!!
Good tip! Thanks
I bought a standard brand new and I can tell you that the owners manual says that that bridge IS NOT meant to float. That's how Eddie designed them for superb sustain. That bridge should be pinned against the body so that when you bend the high E or B strings the bridge does not come up off the body. Again this is just what the owners manual specifies. Thanks for the video 👍
Yes. the bridges are not supposed to float on these guitars. They are set against the body for stability. However....I so love a floating trem.
Man, this came in clutch. Picked me up that exact rig locally for less than half new. I built my Frankie tribute to include a Fender style tremolo, but wanted an EVH Wolfgang as a comparison and for stuff the Floyd Rose is just better at. My intonation was pretty good, but it seems as if the guy that owned mine last had a custom set of 9s, as the trem was slightly elevated, but intonation was dang near spot on when I put on a set of Ernie Slinky 9s. It'd been 20+ years since my last FR guitar, so you reminded me of a lot of stuff I forgot. Great vid!
Thanks bro. I hope it helped and thanks for the comment and watching.
Really dig your conversational style of teaching, keeps it interesting and listenable while doing other things..
I concur on your findings, comparing the USA, and the Indonesian Wolves.
As much as I like the body cuts, the parts and overall fit and finish, just aren’t there in the indo’s.
However, they’re great feeling guitars with some decent punchy pickups and worth it if you on a good deal.
I’ve played the hell out of them and they manage to hold up.
But when you pick up the real deal you feel it and hear it instantly.
Thanks my friend....and yes....you can feel a difference between the two. The USA Wolfgangs are just simply fantastic guitars...but for the money it is hard to beat the little Indo one. I was shocked at how well it played...and most guitars I play at this price point are not even worth the money. But...with a little love and a little bit of exchanging hardware you can make this thing a ripper.
Beautiful guitar
Yeah dude it is awesome. Thanks for the comment.
In order to get the action right on my WG Standard, I had route material to the rear of the Floyd Rose. This allows the plate underneath the Floyd to sit flat on the body. There is a thin spacer plate that goes between the block and the finger spring that holds the string lock screws, It is only around 1/32" thick but it is enough to prevent getting the action low. I also put a big brass block, a Bourne's low friction pot, and a real treble bleed circuit that actually works. This guitar is amazing now. Took some work to get this one set up right. It also had 10 high frets which I had to level and crown. Once I did all that, I was able to get the action nice and low and have full movement with the Floyd. Peace.
Yeah I am going to completely rip this one apart. I am changing out the pups, the electronics and the trem. Regardless, that was a lot of work you had to do. Fortunately I don't have those issues with this one. It seems pretty good for the most part but I will know more once I seriously tear into it.
i have both ..and the answer is YES ...the usa is magical !!!!!!
Yeah dude....they are. They are some of the finest guitars ever built.
I am interested to see how guitar sounds and plays is when tone pot is sorted . It's a good vid for EVH fans on a budget . They turn up on ebay and Facebook market place pretty cheap even here in UK
I bypassed the tone pot altogether and did the comparison video. Didn't really see the reason to put on back in yet as I am going to paint it if it ever stops raining. It's like living in the UK.
@@TraceTaylor3 Lol good luck with the weather Hope to see the guitar completed soon
@@peterfletcher6920 Thanks brother
This dropped as I was catching up on the Tagima video :)
Hahahha "What a dick...Bastard!" Hahhahahahh Thanks for the belly laugh!
Best Regards Bud and Best Wishes to the Missus!
Funny. Thanks my friend and I will tell her. Have a great night.
Really strange. You last comment on the video about stop the scam did not post although it sent me an email with the message. Hmmmm. Regardless, yes the damn hoof videos kill me. Hopefully I will be able to get some good show footage this year but right now I am looking for a new drummer. We had to part ways with him for a multitude of reasons so my band Trainwreck is now derailed. Actually, now that you mentioned it, I am working a video for phrasing and how you don't always have to resolve to the root. I am going to start with Dire Straights Your Latest Trick and cover the horn section, which for phrasing, horn lines a brilliant. But, keep the ideas coming. Sometimes I get so busy its hard to stay focused on this, but my goal is to get to where I can do this full time. This is what i truly love to do. Thanks my friend.
The American Wolfgang's prices are high because Eddie passed away they all shot up after that. There's Wolfgang specials by PV that are listed up to $2000
Yeah they are shooting up in price. It is stupid the price these guitars have gotten to. But sadly still on par with top end Les Paul and PRS's. Luckily they still have better options like a Japanese Wolfgang if you can find one. They are amazing and I have found a few for around 1200
@@TraceTaylor3 I'd take one of my USA Peavey Wolfgang specials over a Gibson or PRS any day. Haven't tried one of the Japanese made ones yet .
@@stringsattached67 If you can find one for a decent price get it. They quit making them because they were literally the identical as the USA models for 2500 less. Stainless frets, real EVH Pickups and trem.
What size Allen wrenches do you need for the nut and neck of that system?
It's a 3mm for the nut. For the neck you use that same wrench and stick in the holes and adjust that way. It does not have a standard truss adjustment on it. I actually like the EVH setup better then on other guitars.
Replace locking nut with bone or brass regular nut?
But then you lose stability. I have never had a guitar without a locking nut that would stay in tune with heavy trem use.
the pickups are the exact same one as in the Wolfgang special ....
How can you use tremolo arm with 4 springs? On my evh special I had originali 2 springs and when I used tremolo arm it went out of tune. Now I have 3 springs and the guitar is in tune but it's Hard to use tremolo arm because of the presure.
It's not that bad. I like my trems a little on the stiff side. If you have them "not stiff enough" they will move and pull out of tune when you do double stops....which I do quite a bit of. Also when I let go of the trem I like them to snap back into position,.
I know this video is old but my low e always goes out when I lock the nut everything else stays good but my low e goes up half step every time
That's not to uncommon. The way it is supposed to work is that from the bridge to the tuner everything should be in an exact straight line.....but that is hardly ever the case. Especially if the headstock tilts back a little and the they tilt the locking nut. when that happens a lot of time if you tune then lock the nut the thicker strings will go sharp. I have a few guitars...some really high end that do that very thing. What I do is adjust my fine tuners all the way out....screw them back in a couple of turns....then tune the guitar a little flat....tighten the locking nut....it will pull most of the stings close to tune and then use the fine tuners to get it in.
I own the Peavey model,
Very very good guitar. I will out live all of us.
Mine wont stay in tune no matter what i do to it. I've gone over the guitar to make sure everything is tight. The strings are well broken in i play at least a couple hours every day. I don't know i can't figure it out. I tightened up the claw springs on the back, put in a trem stop. I mean it stays in tune for 20 mins at a time or so but them i'm always fidgeting with the micro tuners. Seems like it always goes flat a little when i pick the guitar up the next day or even when i'm playing it that's the direction it goes out of tune i always have to adjust it from being slightly flat. No friggen clue what the fix is. Maybe these cheap floyd rose specials just aren't very good. I hear people saying they can play for days and never have to adjust their guitars with floyd roses. Must be nice
The floyds that come on them are not the best....however it should still stay in tune. How is the intonation? Are the strings new or old? Have you checked the neck to make sure it is straight?
If when you clamp the strings the pitch goes up your string tree needs adjusted.
Clamp the string where?
@@TraceTaylor3 At the nut
@@phredzilla Ok. I see what you are saying. Yes, you just can't clamp too hard. That will seriously pull it out of tune.
String trees??? Wake up boy!!
I have the same guitar and the high E won’t get in tune
Have you changed the strings? How is your intonation?
@@TraceTaylor3 after messing with it forever, I finally got the High E in tune. I’m not a guitar player but I love guitars. I need a pro to set it up properly
@@byronmcdonald6613I get that but honestly I would try it yourself first. You can't hurt it. I have plenty of videos on my channel and there a thousands of others on how to set up your guitar. That way once you figure it out, you can set up all your guitars the same, or tweak certain ones for certain things. I have some guitars that have a lot of sustain. But I have others where the sustain is not as good but the action is crazy fast. That way you can tailor your instruments to what you need.
Dude do the tuning and intonation in playing position. When you flip that up it’s not going to be what it was lying down.
If you watch my video on setting up the Ibanez zero system I go over that. I do them laying because it is easier to film.
This video could have been much shorter
But then you would not have gotten to spend all this great time with me.
