RIP, Vincent Price, 1911-1993. This was his final film he made. RIP, Stan Winston, 1946-2008, for bringing Edward to life. RIP, Alan Arkin, 1934-2023, for his help to make Edward a member of the family.
Also, RIP Dick Anthony Jones (1934-2012) for keeping the pastel town safe despite his prejudice towards Edward. Also known for Dog Day Afternoon / The Jerk / Summer Rental!
I made the mistake of watching that movie for the first time, not knowing what it was about, one week after my Dad passed away. I was a whole mess by the time those credits rolled.
"I'm an old woman now. I would rather he remember me the way I was". "Sometimes you can still catch me dancing in it" . Those three simple lines still break my heart
"I am not complete." Fun Fact: Edward (Johnny Depp) says only 169 words in the film. Music Enthusiast Fact: The little blond boy on the Slip 'N Slide, at the beginning of the film, is Nick Carter of The Backstreet Boys. Though uncredited in the film, Carter himself has confirmed this in several interviews. Final Bow Fact: Vincent Price's role was intended to be larger, but the veteran actor was very ill with emphysema and Parkinson's disease, so his scenes were cut to a minimum. This was Vincent Price's last screen appearance, and his last moment ever on screen, is a death scene. Location Location Fact: The Southgate Shopping Center is located in Lakeland, FL, while the neighborhood was filmed at the Carpenter's Run subdivision in Lutz, FL. Some of the houses used in the film were also in Land O'Lakes, FL and all of them were completely unchanged, except for their garish exterior paint.
@BigGator5 Hey, BigGator! How ya doin'? My best friend I grew up with now lives in Land O' Lakes, FL. We stay in touch, talk on the phone every week & are currently exchanging Christmas gifts by mail. I'll have to tell her these interesting little trivia tidbits. She'll find them interesting. Thanks.🩵✨️🩵
Edward was a machine that was used for chopping things. The cookie the old man held up was to the same machine he began turning into a human, and the hands were the last thing he made but didn't get a chance to put them on as he died right after presenting them to Edward. That's why he said "I'm not complete" when he first met the Avon lady.
I love you J! 2025 is gonna be so awesome for all kinds of reasons, but ESPECIALLY for you because that will be the year you get 100K subscribers!!! I can't wait for that! You are my #1 favorite reactor on RUclips. You can be so crass with your language (which I LOVE), but you can also be very sensitive and show tears. You are an authentic person and that's why everyone loves you my dude! Don't ever change!!! I showed my Momma the clips of you crying at Titanic and your precious puppies come to make you feel better--and it made my Momma cry, too!
Like J said, not a Christmas movie.. “Not even a 🎁 “ yet the wholesomeness and pure nature of Edward’s character was ultimately, the true gift; and it melted us all by warming our hearts 💝
Anthony Michael Hall looks so DIFFERENT now! When I first saw him in The Dead Zone, I didn't believe my mom when she told me that was the same guy from Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club!
I don't know why "bitch if you don't go slip and fall.." hit me quite like it did but holy shit.. 10 minutes later I have finally been able to catch my breath. That shit was hilarious.
🙂 I always thought they were “twin flames” so to speak and share the same sentiment. I was disappointed when they parted ways but I’ve heard they still have respect for each other unlike whom shall not be mentioned 🚽
The neighborhood is a real one. It looks like any normal suburban neighborhood today. They actually made all the houses and landscaping look that way just for the movie. And I agree, I could never live there either. No shade,no tall tress, and landscape that can block views and diffuse light and give the eye something to actually look at. The effect of that colorful housed neighborhood actually does the opposite.Makes the area appeared like a barron wasteland or military complex barracks....and kudos on the Gargamel reference
This was the movie I introduced my daughter to Johnny Depp and she was hooked on him. I love this movie Johnny Depp is a goat actor. He is so expressive without talking,he had very few lines in this movie but his emotions emoted through the screen.
Years ago I made a comment on a video where Keanu was telling Ellen Degeneres that he hoped she would have better taste than to choose him to date if she ever decided to breed. I wish to live in the timeline where Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock expressed their feelings towards each other in Speed. The world would be a much better place.
This movie and Babe were amazing in terms of wholesome quality....but also brilliantly written, directed and heartwarming...while also being very funny. I put these films together along with The Princess Bride among my top 5 ever in this genre.
🎂 Happy Birthday! I just passed my 31st a brief while ago. I too received an amazing movie reaction from J on my birthday 😊 Hope you have a great rest of yours❣️
This movie is about the price people pay for being different. Cookie cutter houses, cookie cutter people with a few decent ones thrown in and edward, with a difference people can see. They use his talents up and then punish him for not being able to fit in. Best Tim Burton film ❤
Of course we are 🙃 Tim Burton’s methods and style simply are to bring this whimsical weirdness into masterpieces all their own that cannot be replicated (Tim was a trailblazer for a lot of newer gen art style's) and I know it’s not for everyone but it’s certainly something to be appreciated, nonetheless 🖤
There is just something about this movie that makes me cry, every damn time. I first remember being really sad when I was a kid when his creator drops dead, and, he was touching his face. Ever since then, this movie breaks my heart. Such a great, and, endearing film, one of Burton's best, in my opinion, but, the heartache is real with this one.
Tim Burton is on the Mt. Rushmore of directors for me. This movie is so touching and perfect for the holiday season. Excellent choice! Johnny and Winona killed their performances in this movie. So cute. Also, shout out to Vincent Price!!! ❤❤
@razycrandomgirl oh absolutely! The composition of music and sound is so whimsical and gives the atmosphere of the world they are in so much more emotion with each scene. Good call!! ☺
Ahahaha!! The censorship "miss" at almost 19min has me in stitches!!! I had to rewind the video and see if I had perceived it correctly the first time. I'm grateful I was looking at the screen as it happened! 😂
Vincent Price is legendary in old school horror movies. If you know Michael Jacksons Thriller then you know Vincent's voice and laugh. Fuckboy was in Breakfast Club. Avon lady was a district attorney on Law & Order. Johnny and Winona were engaged. He had a tattoo "Winona Forever". He has said on talk shows after they broke up he had it changed to Wine Forever. The music you like so much is by Danny Elfman. He did the music for Peewee's Big Adventure and The Simpson's theme song and so many others. You can tell his style. When i see his name in the credits i know it's gonna be fun. Fun reaction. ❤
@@razycrandomgirl Or a movie where Freddy was a victim instead, It could be called "Freddy Got Fingered"......oh wait there's already a movie called that. Nevermind.
As someone who saw this many times very young and haven’t watched in awhile or being this grown, I really appreciate how they let Edward in. Yeah they starred but they treated him cool quickly in the beginning. Genuinely were accepting. Well in the beginning.
The inventor gave him his hands as a Christmas present, J! Lol! Even though he never got to use them! It still counts! 😉🤣🤣 So glad you watched this, bruh..
The neighborhood is a real place on Tinsmith Circle in Lutz, FL. It was brand new when the movie was made, and looks much more hospitable now - comfy and lived in, with mature trees.
No no, everyone misses this. The reason he has scissors for hands is that he's the same cutting machine from the cookie scene. The inventor built the cutting machine INTO a person, the hands just ended up being the last part to get replaced.
It’s always been and felt like one though, and in the 90s it was played every Christmas season but then again, we also celebrated Thanksgiving with the OG Halloween 1-3 movies 😂 Sometimes opposite and quirky works?
The Gargamel and Thotimus Prime jibes made me laugh so hard my hiccups came back. The houses look like those old buttermints that they used to make. They came in pastel colors just like those houses. If you want another wholesome Tim Burton movie, try "Corpse Bride". Also kind of surprised you didn't remark on Vincent Price.
I'd say its a holiday/winter time movie not really "Christmas". Danny Elfman definitely takes it to that magical winter wonderland. Also it took me a while to realize the teen villian boyfriend was the nerd from the breakfast club
6:29 The house with the striped tent over it is a visual gag or an Easter egg. It's not explicitly explained in the film, but one theory suggests it might be a reference or homage to similar imagery used in "The X-Files" episode "The Post-Modern Prometheus," where fumigation tents hide secretive activities. However, in the context of "Edward Scissorhands," it simply adds to the surreal, quirky nature of the neighborhood.
That neighborhood is in Lutz, Florida. I lived in that area mostly- not in Lutz specifically but in Pinellas, Pasco, and Hillsborough counties. They planted a bunch of trees so it looks a lot different now. Very typical for a neighborhood in the area, you woudln't recognize it driving through it. There are more recent photos you can look up online. He did get a present for Christmas! His hands- his creator just died as he was receiving them.

LOVE THE CHANNEL BUT THE GRINCH WOULD'VE BEEN HAPPIER IN MY OPINION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I already put this in the comments, but Eastern Promises is one of the best Christmas movies. It's a great movie.
Peg is such an underrated badass, she sees a guy with hand scissors in an abandoned mansion and is barely rattled.
Her husband was just as awesome - his wife brings home a guy with scissors home and welcomes him without a second thought
"Imagine if he met Freddy Krueger?" He did. Johnny was in Nightmare on Elm Street.
oh shit you’re right 😂😂😂
Lol
Met him to a bad, bad end!
I didn't think of that.
And lost..lol. He needed those scissor hands then! 😂
The scene where Edward is carving the ice statue and she's dancing around it has to be one of the most beautiful scenes in movie history.

Edward´s father (the inventor) was the legendary actor Vincent Price. Master of horror with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing.

I've seen all of Tim Burton's movies from the 80's & 90's... I think this is the one he'll most be remembered for.
It's got a Christmas tree, snow, a singing choir and a story about love and understanding, it's totally a Christmas movie!!
"Pastel Hell" is a great way to describe the neighborhood. Haha. It definitely has a 'sickly suburban' feel about it. Love ya, Mr Whistle!

He was great until his style came at the expense of substance
You know those plastic covers they put over kitchen knives? Something to sheath them. I would've made something like that for Edward.
I grew up in a neighborhood so similar to this. When Tom Jones starts singing, the film takes on the feeling of a documentary for me.
