If a professional tells you not to cross the safety line on the floor during a tour through a production line, you DON'T cross the safety line. A machine can be designed for stuffing sweet rolls and still be highly hazardous to the average person who doesn't understand the machinery; pinching your finger will be the least of your problems.
The second a child learns they won't fly if they jump from a high place, they have logic capacity enough to discern right from wrong, the problem is they think they're *above the consequences* , so they leave it to chance. Unless you're being mind-controlled, to disobey is *always* a conscious decision.
Far from me to defend Afton, though. A parent is supposed to keep an eye on their children *at all times*... BOTH, parents. Not just the mom, not just the father, BOTH.
If for some reason they're unable to, the safest course of action is to ask a trustful third party to do it, and if by chance there's no one available, well, tough luck, one of them has to make do!! Being a parent IS hard work, and one can never be too careful! Parents don't exaggerate when they say "I looked away for one minute...", some even say their child is plotting something when things are too quiet at home.
All of this family is hell, nobody wants to take responsibility for the snowball they contributed to that led to all of this.
