Could you revisit Yamatanuki this year? I heard from another RUclips video that someone won a BFT in Japan using the Yamatanuki, but they were splitting the tail, and rigging it up from the tail side. I love your channel, brother.
@@michaelmenchaca6411 That’s interesting! Bass like to eat head-first, so I can see the logic behind it. I’m assuming the tail was split just to make room for the hook. You might be able to achieve the same backwards-fishing style with a 60 or 90 degree jig hook, without altering the tail. I’ll definitely look into it when I break out the ‘Nuki baits this year. Thanks for watching!
@@live2fishofficial mushroom cap! 😂 - Thanks Joe! I’ve taken them out on the water, and even though we didn’t find many fish, I learned that the added plastisol has 0 effect on the fall pattern and fall rate of the bait, and substantially increased the durability. I was skipping it across the water under docks and dragging through the grass, and never made it to my second bait. Now I just have to find the fish 🤷🏻♂️
@@kennethmaddox6988 if the melting occurs from a chemical reaction (I believe this is normally the case), then the clear hard plastisol shell would seal in the chemicals that are causing them to melt. However, the clear hard plastisol would reduce the flexibility and action of the baits, which is one of the things that makes the ElaZtech baits awesome. I use this hack only on problem areas of baits that frequently tear up (like the head of the Yamamoto Yamatanuki or the head of the 6th Sense Panorama), and I avoid using on areas of the bait that create the action (like a paddle tail or any flexible appendages). This being said, there are other more flexible formulas of plastisol out there that would allow for more movement. I think the best solution in your case would be to keep ElaZtech baits stored inside the original packaging - they are very effective and durable baits as long as they don’t come into contact with other non-ElaZtech soft plastics.
@nextlevelangling hmmm. I am guilty of mixing the soft plastics. It also seems heat might be a factor or at least it gets worse. I'll be downsizing to number of profiles to 3 max at a few lengths, so the Z are out due to failed hookups (should have used a stinger). They hit the tail, stretch it out and release. Thank for the follow up
I'm glad you asked that, because I hadn't thought to test that yet. Fortunately, I sit right next to my testing tank. I just dropped one in and it still falls horizontally! I also do not see any noticable difference in the fall rate, which is also good. The plastisol used is significantly tougher than the bait itself, but it doesn't appear to add weight significant enough to affect the action.
@@LANLANLAN12 just wanted to follow up here after taking these out on the water - they fell perfectly horizontal even on slacked line. I skipped the bait across the water into structure and pulled it through the weeds and never made it to a second bait. Durability was SUBSTANTIALLY improved! Next time, hopefully we’ll find the fish to test them on. We had tough conditions and didn’t find em.
@@LANLANLAN12 heck yea dude. In terms of the amount of plastisol used for a whole pack it actually costs very little to make these mods. And they definitely will get a lot more uses per bait
I've had good success with the G-finesse HD worm hook.
@@wciii3591 well, if there’s one thing I know about good success, it’s that it’s good. 🙂
Screw lock hooks help with durability and hook-ups.

Great hack for other baits, too.i wonder if it will stop the Z man's from melting in the pack.

I am not somebody’s chemistry professor mom, but i think capping ptfe/elaztech baits with plastisol would make a melty mess. But i do not know.
Does this make the bait sink nose down? I believe what makes the yamatanuki so good is how it falls horizontally like the senko. Thanks
