GAME PLAY NOTES: * The very basics of quick draw: 1) Light press R2. Real time slows. 2) Fully depress R2. Reticule appears. Adjust. 3) Release and fully press R2. Fires, real-time slow down ends. * There seems to be a new game mechanic that allows quickdraw dead eye while mounted. It operates differently than on foot, light press R2 starts it, then full press R2 both aims and then shoots after a slight delay. * For PC players using keyboard and mouse: This is a link to post on reddit about this: www.reddit.com/r/reddeadredemption2/comments/e28mvp/how_to_do_the_quick_draw_mechanic_on_pc_psa/ Since I don't play on PC keyboard and mouse, I can't verify it myself. Also, see the comment by @bacongaming1353 on this vid. * One thing I forgot to mention in the video is that you can switch from Quickdraw Dead Eye to regular Dead Eye by pressing R3. It won't work when the quickdraw is forced by the game, but in free roam quickdraw, it can.
@@jduarte0381 I'm not sure exactly what you are asking, but it is demonstrated in the vid at [0:42] This works both when mounted and unmounted, but I think it depends on having auto-aim assist on. Keep in mind that this vid is a little outdated, because I was unaware of the mounted quickdraw dead eye that was added in one of the updates between 1.28 and 1.32. This was pointed out by one of the commenters here, but it works slightly different than on foot quickdraw dead eye in that light press R2 starts it, but instead of pressing R2 a second time, it automatically fires after a slight delay. But with no deadeye, the R2-only game mechanic works when there is a target in view ("R2 aim weapon" displayed on the HUD). R2-only with no target just immediately fires at center screen, just like in the Chapter 1 mission "Who in the Hell is Leviticus Cornwall?" when Dutch directs the gang to fire at the private car door. With a target, it also works with throwing knives and I think(?) some other thrown weapons, if that was the last selected weapon but is now holstered. When it is in this state, it requires a second press of R2 to throw/fire. I may eventually do a vid on it, but I need to make sure I've got the game mechanics completely down before I speak on it.
Finally, a decent video explaining the mechanics of quickdraw. The one thing I've been terrible at in RDR2 since I started playing a few years back. I've mainly avoided duels because i sucked at the quickdraw.
Interesting. I'm gonna have to check that out more, because what they say in the help notification doesn't really seem true. The most difficult quickdraw seems be Flaco, because of his jump-to-the-side trick, but I think he starts doing it before Arthur draws (haven't played that one in in over a year, so I could be wrong)
@@winstonwillamette Yep. I compared myself in valentines drawing at nothing, it's actually pretty noticeable so you won't need to strain your eyes. As for flaco, I think he jumps independently but I'm not sure
You may be switching to regular dead eye by pressing R3. Quickdraw dead eye is free aim (with an auto-aim assist, on the draw when it is enabled) has no tagging and is only active for one shot. You can't switch to regular dead eye when quickdraw dead eye is forced in the gunslinger missions.
You can actually draw on PC too, but it has one small condition, found out today by accident. Hold right click on an NPC or enemy that you didn’t aggravate yet to open the “Greet, Antagonize” and “Aim weapon” menu, then hold M1. The “Aim weapon” prompt turns into “Draw” and you get what you wanted.
Yeah, I kinda think they initially made this place for developers to go test it, and there is the gold nugget in the bottle available (seen through eagle eye) that you can shoot down using quick draw dead eye (easier than using manual real-time free aim, if you know how to use it.) I've seen other swinging bottles that can be used for this purpose, for instance at the Dewberry Creek O'Driscoll Gang Camp. Also, but less challenging, are some of the carcasses found at camps that can be shot down that don't have a "cut down carcass" interaction. There's stationary bottles and cans everywhere, especially at camps that can be shot at in free aim. If you are feeling particularly destructive, lanterns and bottles of kerosene are always fun.
This must have been a change that happened recently. Before, it would never do this. The mechanics are different than on foot, light press R2 starts the real-time slowdown, then full-press R2 displays the reticule and shoots at the same time, which defeats the point of the reticule. I suppose there is a very short time out between displaying the reticule and the shot, and if you are real quick, I suppose you could adjust your targeting. With auto-aim assist (which happens as soon as the gun is drawn), this probably works. This is different mechanics that the on-foot duel quickdraw, which require one full press to draw, and a second full press to fire. Thanks for pointing this out, I've added a note to the game play notes.

It is incidental music that part of the RDR2 theme for ShareFactory on PS4. I used the short synth intro for bumper music, but the whole clip features western-style guitar. There's about 10 music clips, which I think were from the soundtrack team for RDR2.
Well, I think you are correct that you can finish the game without using it, but it is a necessary part of the Gunslinger missions, not necessary to finish story mode, but lead to several unique weapons by the end of that stranger mission strand. Also, there's a few chance encounters where it is used, but can be ignored. Again, not necessary for just finishing story mode.
Light press. The trigger controls have analog readings (many games don't use them), and the mode is activated by just barely pushing the trigger. If you have a well-used controller, it may just be broken for this game. You can go down to GameStop and they can test your analog readings on your L2 and R2.
Not really sure what you mean, but I didn't design the game mechanics. It took me a while to figure out exactly what was going on with this game mechanic since it can really be a problem if you have committed the normal dead procedure (hold L2, R3 for dead eye, tag then R2 to fire) to muscle memory. Personally, I fumbled through all the forced quickdraws in the game until I took the time to figure out exactly how this game mechanic worked. Since the two methods of dead eye work differently from each other, there's probably more than a few players that appreciate the verbose explanation.
@@winstonwillamette nah I mean the description of the mechanic was rather complicated I play on pc personally and in quick draw events I just have to left click to fill the meter and then aim and release to shoot, i was hoping this video would allow me to do a quick draw anytime anywhere but I couldn't understand much (i know yours are console controls but that's not a problem as on pc just the buttons are different)
@@SamayGhosh I just can't imagine playing this game on PC with rudimentary keyboard and mouse controls. Dualshock PlayStation controllers may get expensive ($50 a pop and I've spent about twice as much on controllers as my console over the years of playing this game.), but there's nothing like being able to use two analog reading two axis joysticks for movement and camera control and analog-reading triggers with a game with mechanics this complicated. (you can do this with PC.) When my controller fails, it's usually just in this game that I notice, broken analog reading don't make much of a difference in other console games with more simplistic controls that don't take advantage of some of the controller's analog readings. That said, I'd really suggest trying to play this game with a controller, it makes a BIG difference once you get past retraining your muscle memory. But that said, there's a link in the pinned game play notes for how it works with keyboard and mouse on PC. I have no experience with it, and I had thought there is a specific keyboard command that starts free roam quick draw (the equivalent of light press R2), but I could be wrong.
@@winstonwillamette why'd you call a mouse rudimentary man, isnt it much more free than an analog joystick in the controler? I mean I'll agree that the left movement joystick is a bliss, it's the same thing as in mobile games and it's truly efficient but aiming with a joystick is weird, even if one gets used to it still I'd say a mouse seems much more free and precise to me That said I've never really aimed with a controller joystick, ive done it in some phone games and hated it but I don't know how different they are from each other Tho one thing, the button prompts are crazy in pc rdr, press e, press r, press f, press z, press q ugghhhhhh
@@SamayGhosh Well, you are still missing a lot with a mouse. The mouse is a two-axis devices, a controller has two that are operated with each hand. You have nothing equivalent to analog triggers, which on a controller have the same movement as a gun trigger (clicking a mouse button to fire is nothing like pulling the trigger on a gun.) The analog triggers make a big difference in Bow mechanics, especially in developing a rapid-fire technique and in minimizing stamina strain. Although not really necessary, the vibration from a dual shock is good for immersion, especially in certain situations like standing your ground with a bear roaring in your face, or when Arthur is close to Mary and getting a stiffy. Just saying. You might find that spending $50 on a DualShock is well worth it.
One of the worst game mechanic systems in gaming, along with the worst movement and camera. If only the people that designed the world and music worked on the gameplay. And was expecting you to shoot the gold nugget in the bottle hanging out of the tree.
Well, I think the problem is that the aiming/targeting system is a little overly complex, and the help notifications for quickdraw don't really explain what is going on. I've been playing this game since release, and it took me a couple of years to take the time and actually figure out what was going on with the quickdraw game mechanics. There are two aim-and-draw systems, the first, that most players use and develop muscle memory for (shooting without thinking about what buttons need to be pressed.) using L2 to aim (after selecting a weapon from the weapons wheel) and R2 to fire and can use regular dead eye by pressing R3 before firing. The second system, which uses mostly the primary holster weapon (but also throwing knives if previously selected and holstered) will use the first press of R2 to start aiming (when there is a target in front), and subsequent presses to fire. It can be very confusing if the player is only using the first method to aim and fire. Since quickdraw is based on this second aim-and-fire system, it's hard to use if the player is not used to it, or even aware of it. In my opinion, with the complex aim-and-fire systems, which can depend on context, it does make the game hard to master, but if you master both methods, it can make the game a lot more enjoyable. Whiskey tree, which I think was put there as a way to practice, especially for quickdraw. Yes, I did use quickdraw in first person in my play through vid on Whiskey Tree to shoot the bottle with the gold nugget: ruclips.net/video/YTnQdKScq-s/видео.html
Not exactly sure what you are saying, but this game mechanic is an integral part of most of the gunslinger missions, and some of the story missions and some chance encounters. Aim assist will pop the reticule to center mass of the target, but you are still required to free aim to where you want to shoot. I understand if you can't afford a real game controller for your PC to play this game with it being as controller intensive as it is, but you are really cheating yourself if you limit yourself to keyboard and mouse instead of using a controller with analog sticks and triggers.
@@winstonwillamette I'm saying its not in the PC version, unless you use a controller (possibly). Also I am poking fun at console gamers, I can't run console games. My hands are too big for the controllers, and I have some carpal tunnel from factory work in the 90s. I've noticed in FPS games I am slowing down now too, it happens when you get older. Been doing the mouse/keyboard thing for the last 25 years or so. One of the most annoying things is when the devs try to use the console GUI and stuff in PC m/k games, its cumbersome at best when really all they need to do is map it to a key. One place where the consoles shine is racing games, if they can utilize VR its a cheap way to get into racing. The flight sims are more like button mashers on console, but the auto racing is pretty decent. I don't do racing games much, because I own cars that I race, but if I wanted to learn or improve on tracks like Laguna Seca or Road America, the console is a great way to learn the track VERY well. So I poke fun at you guys, but its kinda like inter service rivalry where us USAF guys get called chairforce, and Marines eat crayons. Not everyone games, but its fun to mess with each other in how we play them.
@@SweatyFatGuy Well, I don't play the PC version, but I believe there is a specific keyboard press that starts quickdraw if you don't have a controller. I had been meaning to look it up to add to the game play notes. But I think the reason that a lot of people get confused on the quickdraw game mechanics is that it is free aim no tagging; aim assist will only point it at their gut, which is not usually a lethal shot.

I mean I'll agree that the left movement joystick is a bliss, it's the same thing as in mobile games and it's truly efficient but aiming with a joystick is weird, even if one gets used to it still I'd say a mouse seems much more free and precise to me
That said I've never really aimed with a controller joystick, ive done it in some phone games and hated it but I don't know how different they are from each other
Tho one thing, the button prompts are crazy in pc rdr, press e, press r, press f, press z, press q ugghhhhhh
This must be a really bad bait 💀
I think you're just really bad at the game, the camera in fights I agree with, no reason for it to sway that much, everything else, get gud
Oh I see, its for noob console people who need aim assist.. there is no R2 on my keyboard or mouse.
Dude you are terminally online you need to get off the internet and do something else
@@crolaa6137 today I loaded up two junk rusty trucks to haul off for scrap. Lashed the valves on my race car, cleaned all the plugs and started the unwinterizing process on it.
Then I pulled the rest of the front sheet metal on my latest project car so I can sandblast the subframe and rebuild the suspension and paint it all. Nest week it should have an engine in it and be drivable.
Also worked on two of my other trucks, and played with my husky in the back yard for half an hour, he got the zoomies and needed to run.
That is a typical day around here when the weather is acceptable. Tomorrow I need to pull the bumpers off a junk truck (it has very nice rust free ones), fix the shifter linkage on my winter beater 4x4 and swap the summer tires on it, then continue with the new project.
Haven't even started my game machine today, did some RDR2 yesterday while watching one of my friend's stream.
So um.. what did you do today? Maybe by the time you are in your mid 50s you will have time management down pretty good, it helps to not watch TV as that is a huge waste of time. I'd rather game or make automotive videos to put on here.
