- Maxson Goh Films a 1958 Leyland Tiger Cub starting its engine outside the North West Museum Of Road Transport in Saint Helens, England.
Smoke from the bus engulfs a nearby car, scenes that you will not see every day here.

happy to see a retired bus still going strong, despite it being 65 years old!
Same! Nice that the laws here allow it to exist on the roads
@@glitchFan2428We had the export version of this bus in Jamaica during the 50s & 60s The Jamaica Omnibus Service . These buses still remain the best set of buses ever went to Jamaica . J.O.S got Leyland Nationals in 1973 to replace them & they died out by 1981 . Many of them went on for years with private bus owners for years after J.O.S closed in 1983 .
@@robertcamble3543 glad to know that some of them continued to live on abroad 👍
@@glitchFan2428 Yes. One of the newer ones with big wrap around windscreen & large route display is not too far from my aunt's home . This was the 1 st true modern looking bus that came to Jamaica with 4 headlights & lighted billboards over the windows . The beauty of these buses came out at night when they light them billboards at night .
It's running, but going strong....? If an engine runs it does not mean that all is well with it.
Anyone else remember the 1980s when at a bus station with about 20 Leyland National, Atlanteans and MCWs in clouds of blue smoke in the winter lol
I was born in the tail end of the 90s so it's a no from me
A very rare sight, nice to see the buses still being able to run after retirement
Still started quicker than some of the new streetlites down my way 😂
literally 😂😂
Nice to see it startup after it retired and preserve in excellent condition
Yeap! Satisfying
Engine isn't in excellent condition though.
@@simontay4851how ?
Nice to see the bus still run despite being retired.
That's the beauty of life in England and in fact many other countries
@@glitchFan2428 I should visit one day
You'll love it if you like old buses
Thumbnail look like the bus doing a burnout!
Ahaha I thought the same too!
. @glitchFan2428 By the time it drove off, it looked like all the passengers had died from the fumes
What a beauty 😍
Just Love it
Bus burnout 😂
Nice leyland going strong
Cold start
Ye
That was a really amazing video
ULEZ Compliant 👍
Technically it's ULEZ exempt 😊
Watch how it blows smoke rings when you start it 😂
Greta: “You’ve stolen my dreams”
no smoke no poke!
Now compare that with a Leyland National Mk1 starting up. With the proper engine that is. I don't know if a Tiger Cub should clag so much on starting.
The paint is nice and shiny but the engine is not well, too much smoke and 1 cylinder is obviously not firing properly.
She well worn
Still a sight to behold tho
Should cold start that in sadiq kharn’s bedroom every day .
Ironically these buses are ulez exempt as they are classed as historical vehicles
great bus some 2023 BYD electric won't last 60 years
I doubt anyone would want to preserve electric buses anyway... but that's just me. Who knows 🤔🤔
@@glitchFan2428 also they won't last no matter how much you presserve them they are not made to last and they can't last
Wow watch out Lawrence Gardner, I did not know an O350 Leyland Napier could chuck out that amount of smoke, the driver should let the starter cool a few minutes and not lean on it like a drunken tart at a bar. Throttle down a quarter travel, box in neutral then press the tit, listen for the starter speeding up when the engine fires blip the throttle a few times then idle to warm up.
Smoke has a blue tinge (burning lube oil) - indicating the engine is worn out and compression at starting revs is barely enough. He has to keep the starter going that long. Each compression stroke leaves the cylinder a bit warmer, until it is warm enough to ignite the fuel. If he rests it, the little compression heat it has will be lost and it will not start.
Regarding worn cylinder blocks, I know even with a petrol engine excessive blue smoke @@keithammleter3824 is a sign of of worn cylinders, valve guides and piston rings. But due to the scarcity of serviceable Leyland Napier O350 cylinder blocks the Tiger Cub owner had no choice but keep the worn block in service,. Lack of pre heating, like glow plugs makes starting difficult, ask any owner of Polly Perkins 'P and R' Series diesels notorious for poor starting in cold weather.
Is it 2 stroke diesel engine?
No
No, looks like it’s glow plugs are worn out and need fixing with all the white smoke coming out the exhaust pipe.
hi, great video, great sounding leyland engine but ! should not smoke so much, suggest pump and injectors sent away for calibration,,ex AEC ltd
Thanks! I don't own the bus though so although I would love to implement your suggestions, the best we can do is hope the owner sees this video and your comment
Hello ah.. smoking not allowed here
😂😂
Needs recon pump and injectors
Euro 8, ulez n clear air zone compliant.
I mean, it's ulez exempt so not far from the truth
Is this bus powered by Leyland 0.400 Six Cylinder Naturally Aspirated Diesel Engine?
More like the 0680 engine .
This was earlier than the O.400. Either an O.350 or an O.375.
@@peterw29 Thanks for your interesting information 🙏
Make the most of these old buses, read an article from April 2024 the government wants to crack down on old polluting vehicles on the road ruining all the fun
As an owner of multiple old vehicles, I can confirm that they are the most environmentally friendly as they are broken and off the roads half the time 😅
Engine definitely needs a service. It shouldn't be smoking that much. Its like a 2 stroke gas engine that is running too rich.
Hopefully it's been sorted since the video was taken 👍🏻
Class 37 bus (real)
very 😂
00:31
Is this misfiring?
Yes, it does not appear to be hitting on all cylinders>
Isnt this bad for the environment lol
It's a preserved bus, so rarely used that the impact is negligible. Like a classic car.
