You don’t want to unsubscribe from all of the emails because most of them are not legitimate emails from trusted sources. By clicking unsubscribe, which is potentially a fake link, you could be opening your computer to serious vulnerabilities.

And either way this doesn't solve the initial problem of not getting the spam at all in the first place. For that you'd actually have to unsubscribe instead of just hiding/deleting all the emails that have an "unsubscribe" button...

A while ago I finally went through all my emails and unsubscribed from these lists. Did the same as him, then sorted by email and deleted all of them after unsubscribing from that list. It took a while but not nearly as long as I thought by doing it in bulk like that. Now it's sooo much better and I unsubscribe from mailing lists right away. Totally worth putting in the time to get it under control instead of just pushing the crap around in my email account
@@Mr_Unithe problem with scripting is that the unsubscribe links do various things, depending entirely on how the sender handles email. If there is a shortcut, I’ve not found it. The only way I’ve found to minimize the process is sorting by sender and only unsubscribing once for each sender. I hope this helps a bit

I open my spam, open the tags, copy them, hit forward on the spam, paste in the tags, look up the IP addresses and then copy the abuse email address for that ISP, paste it into the address line of the spam with the headers showing as pasted, and send it off. This has proved to reduce the amount of spam I get.
If you unsubscribe to purely spam emails, especially those that invite you to do so, you simply confirm a valid email address they can continue to spam to. You MUST establish for yourself that it's a service you actually have subscribed to. Then, by all means, unsubscribe.
These days spam filters are becoming more of a problem than spam emails. Spam is easy to identify and delete. But when an important email gets put in the spam folder it is a huge problem

the problem is that many websites that update you on your order status(for example) , will do it through a subscription type email, so that you can opt-out from some types of notifications. if you do this trick you may also be filtering out some important updates
Indeed... needs to be far more selective than that. I use (company) at (mymaildomain) so I can spot where messages come from, and if junk creeps in, either they sold my address or have been hacked... either way, I can reject (404) in the mail forwarding on cPanel for the domain, or just divert to the "bit bin" (as spammer could have sent from an innocent person's mail address, and that innocent can do without my "rejected" msg adding to the junk they get.

This will filter out legitimate email as well. Under Australian law, all email from businesses have to provide an option for people to unsubscribe - this means that even legitimate emails have the word "unsubscribe" in them.
Amazing! My school uses a google environment, and everytime a teacher puts anything in classroom, I get an email saying 'New material'. This leads to us getting spammed by classroom with no way to stop it because we cannot unsubscribe

Only problem is if there is one or two places that you actually want to receive the stuff from they're going to be caught up in that rule too. So they'll all get filed in there and you still have to scroll through them to find the one that you're looking for. I just keep marking them spam and then emptying my spam folder every few days. Since we don't have the option to block unless we pay an additional amount monthly for additional Google services. Got to love the bait and switch. Want a phone that isn't an "i" product then you have to have a Gmail. But we're going to make it impossible for you to keep your free Google account by limiting how many pictures you can have and really making your Gmail email unusable due to all the spam but for an additional fee we can give you a block button so you can block any emails from that domain.

Gmail already has this built in it will automatically sort your emails and there's a specific section called promotional which all of it will go to just enable the setting under your Gmail settings for smart organization.
This is great. But some websites have the unsubscribe button in official emails like password reset. It’s too restricting to have a rule like this. You could miss something important.

If you can write down the steps you did, and those steps are repetitive, you can also write a programming script to automate the process.

I did this too and it's so worth it! Now I unsubscribe right away and I have and inbox that isn't immediately overwhelming

Try 113,000. I’m over it.
It can be cleaned up fairly quickly. You just have to unsubscribe and search for all the emails of that sender and delete them.
Mine is 141k

So you're basically moving your spam mail to a different folder. Big brain time.
Just use a filter or many of them, that will work for you. You might actually need to see some of the email containing the word unsubscribe.

Yahoo mail has a feature that lists senders and unsubscribes for you. Surprised Google doesn't have anything close to that.

Look for an option in the label settings to skip the inbox. It won't show up in the inbox, only under the label
