Hell yes! Such a fun show!
Yes please!!!
I want more lesbian vampire films with less male gaze and more male gays
Yes please
Yess
and a happy ending where they get to live their immortal, bisexual/gay lives together!
Re do Jennifer's body in like 5 years with far more queer euphoria like energy..was the first thing I thought of with this comment
I think people should be far more cautious with their usage of the term "male gaze" as there is quite a lot of historical, academic, sociological, and political baggage and weight on such a term as it has at least somewhat, been used more often to describe the way in which Women of Colour, Black Women, Native American Women, East, West, South-Asian, South-East Asian, Non-Christian Women, and generally other disinfranchised, marginalized, assimilated, and opressed women have been depicted and represented in film and cinema.
That being said however, I still do agree with your statement and everyone elses!
...actually I'm working on a story right now with a lesbian vampire and a monster hunter who is slowly realizing maybe she isn't straight. so good timing on that
Are you planning to publish that story somewhere when you are finished?
I want to read that ngl
Would love to read that
That's cool. That makes me want to check it out. Hope you got it published.
Also following for notification.
I literally did a search yesterday for lesbian and bisexual vampire content and said out loud "wow, I wish there were more results." Thank you, VB #blessed
I went to a Catholic high school, the only sex ed we got was about heterosexual sex and was more like teaching us about how the engine works rather than how to drive the car. Watching classic horror, hammer horror and European horror films from 50s -70S helped me realize that I was Bisexual.
If you went to school in the UK between 1988 and 2003, heterosexual sex education was the only sex ed any school would teach. I went to LEA funded schools and your sex education sounds very similar to mine, all about the plumbing, nothing about the emotions or things like consent.
@@GeoNeilUK heck even as recent as 2014 there was no LGBT+ sex ed at my school, but I think it was 2016 they introduced it into the curriculum, but I had already passed that stage.
Yeah as a fellow veteran of Christian high schools, sex ed is an absolute joke there but like..."heterosexual" sex was the only thing that was even talked about. Talked about in a very slut-shamey purity type inaccurate way but at least talked about.
In British Catholic sex ed we didn't even talk about straight contraception or the clit, it was awful
You guys had sex ed? They literally just told us how pregnancy works when we were supposed to have PE
I highly recommend the movie "Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter", it has lesbians, vampires, lesbian vampires, Jesus Christ as an ally, and it's probably one of the best comedies I've ever seen
Oh my god that sounds amazing
I was drunk when I watched it but I remember laughing a lot.
Oh my god I remember that film
dude it fucking slaps.
the amount of ninjas that pop out of that one van is incredible.
All this discussion about bi vampires made me realize that that's what Marceline from Adventure Time is. Not sure why it took me this long to realize lol
As a bi gal who has always loved vampire stories this is absolutely the video for me! This was fascinating and I definitely have a couple films to track down and watch!
Bi guy here, personally I feel like every vampire man is bi. The only straight vampire movies are twilight
Excellent video! It got me thinking about the Nerflix Castlevania version of Carmila- she represents the anxiety that a victim gains power to victimize her abusers. She is monstrous because the violence she metes out is "disproportionate". She will take everything from the evil old men who enacted violence on her and then kill them. She'll do that to all the men (because it's men who are the kings, the land owners, the wealth holders). These mortal men have no power over her, and no power to negotiate. Men, knowing the violence and oppression it takes to get and maintain power, fear having those beneath them rise above them- because from their point of view, why wouldn't the same be done to them?
Vampirism in the Castlevania show is also less a symbol for carnal desire and more about what Lenore said about power, though.
And we also have a couple of lesbians vampires, which ironically isn't really symbolic of anything except lesbian vampires, it's just a nice couple. That or I'm too blind to symbolism in movies and I missed it, which wouldn't surprise me.
I can’t blame her though. Most people would enact out such violence if allowed to their abusers.
"Carmilla" from the Netflixvania series was first of all nowhere near the actual character from the book although Lenore comes somewhat closest though and also bewarned that the series was written by a misogynist edgelord with alot of allegations attached to him so it's not recommended at all.
I was about to support your patreon, but then you said you couldn't actually give me everlasting life. You're supposed to wait until after you get the money to tell people that!
can I get the name of these European lesbian bdsm vampire films? Just for research, of course.
Exactly, very important research at that
Los lobos les vampirous. Classic Spanish/Italian high camp horror story.
One movie that I seem to accidentally seen. Bit dated. And yea spelling mistakes.
If you really want BDSM lesbian and quite tasteless movie try Ken Russell’s “Devils” (Devils of lourdon). Original uncut version is quite horrific to watch.
I love women, I never seem to sleep, I am deathly afraid of the sun, I play a Toreador.......coincidence? Too many to be.
Who did you choose, Jennette or Therese?
Is it true what they say about Toreador vampires? -_^
@@kitirena_koneko I go a bit mad from time to time, yes
@@toriestrella I was thinking of the stereotype that Toreadors make better lovers. Of course, there's nothing wrong with going a little mad from time to time--or the Malkavians I've known all tell me.
@@kitirena_koneko Oh, better lovers.
Small sample size, cannot definitively confirm, but I do get a sticker for effort, as it were 😅
“Hovers near their necks” actually made me laugh out loud cause somehow that seems worse and not at all sexy or terrifying. Like I’m imagining him just hovering there for ages. It just sounds creepy and uncomfortable. Like stop breathing on me and can you please back up 😂🤦🏼♀️
LMAOO ur right
sweet mother i cannot weave, lady dimitrescu has overcome me with longing for a lesbian vampire to bite me and take me away to her castle as her bride
Honestly that sounds like a good fantasy though.
Although such a shame that Lady Dimitrescu herself was a not actually a vampire but a molded BOW since this is Resident Evil or rather the more accurate Japanese title Biohazard we're talking about here a series not known for supernatural material at all.
Of course I too have similar fantasies or a story idea involving a actual Vampire Countess whose based on Dimitrescu in terms of her height that which is pretty much it.
I kinda just want a nice, a little shmoopy, romance between two women- maybe where a female vampire turns the human woman after an attack that leaves her on the brink of death, and through the time they spend together, with the elder vampire teaching the new, they fall in love.
And have a happy ending, goddamit! No dead lesbian vampires in my story! I’d also like to see a lesbian (or bisexual, any wlw) romance that really focuses on their love through the centuries, from the “they’re just roommates Boston marriage” type of way they have to portray themselves in the past, through to marriage equality and getting married in the present.
With excellent costuming, of course. Because bad, inaccurate costuming always pulls me out of a story completely. As much as I loved the narrative of Little Women 2019, the fact that the costuming was so godawful meant I couldn’t focus on the story, I was always just thinking “why does she have a bloody side ponytail? Where are the crinolines? Why hasn’t the fashion changed in the last decade? And where on earth are the bonnets?? Give me my bloody bonnets!” How it’s won an Oscar, I don’t know.
Actually I do know- it should have won in another category, but the establishment is misogynist, and so it for the costuming Oscar as a kind of pity win. Which took away a costuming Oscar from a movie that actually deserved it- like Rocketman.
I have feelings on costuming, obviously. Which is why my lesbian vampire romance through the centuries story would have impeccable costuming, of course.
The Carmila web series does do the happy-ending lesbian vampire story - although Laura never becomes a vampire. The ending is a bit more creative than that (though with some plot holes).
"The Gilda Stories" is a book that also features lesbian vampires who at least have the potential to be happy together (they have relationship challenges the same as humans, and it is hard for conflicts not to come up over literal centuries!). The Vampire Book Club covered that one: ruclips.net/video/TkbR21JXYoo/видео.html
Also, this is a gay vampires thing not a lesbian vampires thing...but I love the central relationship in the anime/manga "Seraph of the End". Just watch this "first bite" scene and tell me it isn't the sweetest thing you've ever seen in a vampire story! ruclips.net/video/995lMOqw_Bo/видео.html
(Context: Yu has believed for 4 years that his childhood friend Mika is dead. Mika actually got turned into a vampire, and he is desperate to find Yu and tell him that the humans were using them both as experimental subjects. But Yu has always hated vampires, so Mika is nervous about their reunion...which is what makes Yu's actual response so heartwarming.)
But I agree - more mainstream happy lesbian vampires with great costuming!
The 1994 little women is way better for beautiful costumes
Book not movie but The Ex-Wives of Dracula fits!
I recommend "Carmila & Laura " By S D Simper. It also has a good ending unlike other works in the genre.
Yes, PLEASE, to all of that.
I know that castlevania carmilla was only used as a short example, however. In this case she is not a lesbian, merely a man-hating imperialist. She has two lesbians around her who later defect and those two are just some incredible characters
Castlevania Carmilla feels like she would be a terf and call me slurs
@@somethinguncreative2634 you are absolutely correct
Castlevania is so good even if Carmilla isn't Iconique in it :) I love the idea of aristocratic vampires being remagined with their monstrousness not being a stand in for their sexuality but for imperialism and exploitation of others
I mean in a man’s world it makes sense she’s fighting back without any mercy.

I’ve been planning a vampire love story comic for awhile, but within that time I’ve come to the realization that I’m a lesbian, it took me a bit. But then suddenly my vampire story that had never felt right, like something was missing, finally made sense. The vampire boy is now a girl and the whole story has become a reflection of my own coming out journey, and I’m excited to share it someday, :)
I also love subversions of vampire stories and myth, your video was so interesting, thank you! :)
Ouuu I want to read it! Are you any closer to executing this idea 5 months later?
@@liastorm795 Aww thanks! And no, definitely not closer haha. It’s still in the works but I need to finish the current webcomic I’m working on, The Botanist on webtoons! I still have quite a ways to go to finish The Botanist, but I’m really proud of the story and how far my art has come since I started it. (Also there will be a lesbian couple in The Botanist, but they haven’t showed up yet) :) But I still do writing for the vampire story behind the scenes, I’m technically working on building up the characters, world, and plot line so when I’m ready to start it, it will be the best story it can be! I 100% plan on creating it someday. :)
Just recently found you, and as a bi girl I am loving your content! I've not really interacted with my sexuality, (been out for nearly 10 years but as a bi girl have always felt on the fringe of the LGBTQ+ space, I guess?) much less thought about how it relates to the media & interests I consume, but your videos have helped me explore that, because I've been consuming some if these tropes and enjoying some if them for years, resonating with them without ever connecting the dots.. the first being the Camilla YT series, then it went from there! Thank you!
These videos are always so well-researched. I think you are my current favorite creator on the site. Thank you so much for your regular video updates. Your integration of bisexuals into queer theory is so important and really puts words to the experiences I’ve had identifying as a cis bi woman, to a lesbian, and finally finding my truth as a bisexual trans man.
I love the dress up vids! 🧛♀️ 🦇
The lipstick is on point 👌
now I really wanna watch this 2019 carmilla version!
Oh it's great!
It is very, very sad.
Yeah, it seems beautiful but i don't think I want to watch it if it's so sad lol
What the actual f*ck. I have not seen a single lesbian vampire and I've been into vampires as long as I can remember. I have seen almost all dracula adaptations. Where have my lesbians been all this time !? How have they been hidden from me !?!
And the vampire represent evil... and... bossoms. I'M CRYING 😂
Ingrid Pitt was great in The Vampire Lovers; interesting story too - she was polish jewish who escaped the Holocaust and settled in England; she was also gorgeous and I loved her in this film and others
I see I need to brush up on my lesbian vampire movies! After all, I'm a bisexual Goth, like half my old flames!
I'm a trans woman, and the fact that transness wasn't a thing was to me the best thing about Bit, I adored that.
Great video! Also, the effect of the two coloured lights dividing your face was awesome for production value. So glad to have found your channel 🥰
25:34 "Misogynist reddit troll vampire hunters" is a phrase I never thought I'd encounter again.
Oh it's interesting seeing your read of Bit! I guess my takeaway was that it was commentary on like... I don't know how to word this properly, but like a particular flavour of pop feminism that banks on being intersectional, but fundamentally only cares about other minority groups where they intersect with womanhood. So, in my own experiences, people who only care about ableism when it impacts women, or fatphobia when it impacts women, or transphobia when trans women and *some* non-binary people can be treated as adjacent to cis womanhood and trans men or non-binary people who don't fit a particular standard can be ignored or dismissed. I suppose both our reads were about men's anxiety about feminism, but in different ways
You have your Carmillas and your Succubi and your Sirens show up on screen to be monster maidens. You have your various witches to represent Crones in film. You even have Sphinxes, Harpies, and Medusa, to represent the intellectual career oriented independent feminist monsters. But we get no Echidna, only a variety of dully vampiric Liliths, and a sole Grendel's Mother with Jolie.
I demand more Mothers of Monsters!
Your content is a mix of Contrapoints and Maven of the Eventide and I love you for it
we stan budget contrapoints !!
my favorite genre of content is fellow trans people making video essays under funky colored lights 💓 keep up the good work!
Wow I really really loved this! Such a brilliant deep dive into a genre I know almost nothing about - I need to watch the 2019 version asap! Thank you sm for such stellar videos 💖
i was not expecting to learn that james corden was in a movie called lesbian vampire killers but alright
i made a self-insert oc (literally my icon actually) and she is a lesbian vampire who falls in love with a bisexual were-creature, so it probably shows exactly what i think of these tropes and the wish to be the lesbian vampire who gets to love a bi woman
I actually wanted to make a reverse (then got too scared to write it) where a lesbian werewolf and bi vampire go through and enemies to lovers arc and also (both) fall for the human daughter of monster hunters.
(Yes it was poly and sapphic and re-rembering it makes me want to write it again.)
This was fantastic. I really liked your comments about 'Bit'. While I appreciate the director had good intentions, the film's ending really felt like he was projecting a desire for a kind of feminism that was less threatening to men, that replaced a narrative about legitimate female anger with a tepid 'Not all Men' ending.
Love your channel. Can't wait to watch more.x
Not me finding a video that is just every one of my interests, nailes every reference and still managed to get a comprehensive message across. We stan 😭🦇
oh lord i sO wish there was a full asmr video just like the beginning.. ;w;
This video was so informative and interesting, thank you! Honestly there is so much to observe from how society treats one story and I really love how this video was put together
I love this video as a lesbian who loves vampires. The Carmilla webseries is something that I'm glad it exists when I want something safe and warm that will make me feel like everything is okay and lovely, but in the other hand, is so irresistible to watch a show that explores that dynamic that comes with the doubt and tension Carmilla generates, as a mysterious wicked character,,,,there are some interesting thoughts on this, great video!
They deserve way more subscribers!!!
I’ve had this in my recommended videos for a few months and finally decided to watch it. I should’ve watched this earlier. I absolutely love how this is presented and the research done for the video.
I'm so glad you mentioned the 2019 version of Carmilla. I loved that retelling because of the themes in it and how it explores what inspired a story like Carmilla at the time Le Fanu's novella was published.
See, I love this video but as a lesbian, Carmilla is very important to me and in the original text I do believe her to be a lesbian. I know monosexuality isn't the only option but it is really nice to have such a defining symbol of lesbianism. It does feel a bit like erasure to deny that, or maybe I misunderstood. However, this was a great video!
Cause it is erasure
@@Officialboss3000 Yeah it is.
Also it is kinda weird you are on a bisexuality channel saying they are not systematical oppressed.
@@myasmith1820 Bisexual people in gay relationships are because their marriages and rights can be taken away. Bisexual people in straight relationships are not because they can still marry their partners and have similar rights. There are absolutely no rights a straight woman with a man has that a bi woman with a man doesn't have. And before you name some niche example of name calling, please refer to the fact that I specifically stated systemic oppression, aka actual legal barriers.
I don't think she was denying Carmillas identity as a lesbian in the original text, but pointing out that the lesbian vampire trope has not only been used to demonize lesbianism in women but bisexuality in them as well. It was less about the specific character and what she has come to represent in reclamatory readings of the story and more about how the trope has been used specifically against bi women.
@@Officialboss3000 There are "bisexual people in straight relationships" who have been fired for their sexuality, who have lost custody of their children (likely to their straight ex-spouse), and probably some who have faced discrimination in healthcare and housing. I feel like you're conflating bisexuals in straight relationships with closeted bisexuals.
this was so so interesting omg i wanna watch all these movies now :o thank you for making such an in depth vid !!
I got an ad just as you said "please don't demonetize me" *chef's kiss*
This is a really phenomenal and comprehensive video! I'm so glad I stumbled across it and your channel
I love the idea of using BOTH lesbian and bisexual interpretations on lady vampires! I love Dracula's Daughter (1936). Although it's very obvious that Countess Marya is seeking out the help of the psychiatrist (I forget his name) in an attempt to mentally free herself from her vampiric (and sexual) desire for women, it also seems to me that she is somewhat romantically attracted to him as well. I think that reading this relationship solely through a bisexual lens is incomplete, since her genuine friendly relationship with him is abandoned for pursuing his (unknown to her except for via association) fiancee to make her into a captive vampire lover, which is perhaps more properly suited to a lesbian interpretation. Because of this, I love your idea of using both interpretations to complement each other in interpreting possible meanings. I think there's some dissonance regarding the relationship that the countess has with the psychiatrist; he reminds me of the Laura of the Carmilla novella. Despite the Countess passionately confessing to him that she is tormented by her subversive desires, he remains strangely naive and doesn't suspect her of either vampirism or lesbianism until she makes an attack on his female lover. Although he arrives to save his fiancee, it's the Countess's male servant who kills the Countess (with an arrow, no less), and like Laura, the psychiatrist is a passive character in the vampire's demise. It's also interesting that a contingency of the Hays Code was that the Countess (like her father before her in 1931) was not permitted to have male victims, because it was considered too threateningly emasculating to show a woman overpowering men at the time, whether as a sexual or physical aggressor. I wonder, if that restraint hadn't been placed on the production, if there would be more explicit romantic/sexual tension between her and the psychiatrist.
I really like your voice, and your choice of words. Educational AND so nice to listen to ! Thank you 💚
Found your content a few weeks ago and I've been watching all your vids and aside from finding your content well done and informative I just wanted to say your makeup is always gorgeous, particularly your lipstick. I am envious!!!
Im sharing this with all my lesbian friends who liked twilight

Great video! Great outfit! Great lighting! I love your channel so much! Seriously! Your stuff is amazing!
what a thorough and thoughtful discussion of the different iterations of the trope! i remember when carmilla the webseries was the only sapphic content i could find that was identity-affirming-dark times!
About a third of the way through and I'm simultaneously hoping you talk about/don't talk about Lesbian Vampire Killers with James Corden

-a bisexual nonmonogamous women
- How do you view lesbian vampires movies?
- Full HD
You are right about the endings tho, always bad for girl vampires, I hope new vampire movies correct that if they dare to make another real vampire movie.
omg this is fantastic! I would love to hear what your thoughts are on "A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night". Originally, I thought this film was subverting the vampire genre, but now I think it draws on the queer vampire woman genre you have so excellently gone over in this essay.
"this is a serious analysis - we have to talk about vagina teeth" the best turn of phrase I've heard this year
I'm so glad I found this video in October. I think Halloween is the perfect time to read Carmilla
love the bi lighting in this
huh, I have never even heard of this genre!
Amazing but... A list of all the movies mentioned?
Honestly, I didn't except such a quality video with literature reference when I came here 😯 great work 👏
the light in this video is so good. And so on theme. CONGRATs.
1. great video!

3. there is a film about a lefthanded girl named Lara who is also bisexual? I think i really need to see that one :p
As always, great video and content! Thanks 😊
That opening was, oof, too much. Gonna need to track some of these films down.
Well, I just finished Castlevania. Time to watch this
I know this is like reeeeeeally late but I'm currently writing my thesis on Carmilla and this video is definitely a jumping off point for my study😄
I just want to say I love your channel and your content and your video essays are just phenomenal, and you yourself have great energy. I'm a bi trans guy but I'm still in denial over that, for now I identify as homoflexible because my precarious pre transition situation makes me feel very uncomfortable with being assumed due to my masculine presentation but denial to reject all things feminine, to be a butch lesbian and I'm more attracted to men than women it seems. Sexuality is complex. But your channel is a breath of fresh air.
I wish you the best on your journey of acceptance, dude! You got this! :)
Coppola's Dracula was my favorite movie as a teen not-yet aware of my queerness, might need to rewatch it at some point. Love this video !
Very interesting. Im a costume student and my current collection im working on is based off of Dracula's Daughter
Having recently watched Bit, the subtlety verges on invisibility in regards to the main character's transness, to the point where it feels less like they are trying for representation and more like queercoding. I holds up okay as a low budget vampire flick, but it feels like it is pretending at a few different metaphors without actually delivering on or fleshing out any of them.
How grand and how gorgeous to finally know what we are
WAIT! The "fish without a bicycle" exists in English too? I thought, the idiom comes from the homonym of "scales" and "shack" in German, because a fish needs a bicycle to put in its shack, which is obviously nonsensical... Seems like I was wrong :D Nvm, I'll keep watching now
That intro already got a like from me!
I am a proud bisexual woman, but I could happily live without men 😂
This was a incredible analysis. I really enjoyed this.
So is there a connection between the trope of men having to avoid seduction by (feminist coded) female vampires, and the Lady Dimitrescu section of Resident Evil Village?
It's just that watching this video brings to mind the boss fights with Dimitrescu and the three daughters. They even call Ethan "man-thing" when you encounter them in the game.
Just watched Castlevania last night. . .
We're just past Carmella's death and the Belmont village forming lol.

Great to see the very complex VAMPYRES (1974) in there
Omg I found a new channel i think I'm gonna love!
Vampires...sapphic/queer subtext? Lesbian vampires...Carmilla specifically...was this video made for me???? I think it was...thank you for this video perfectly made for me!
I love dark red lipstick. Like fuck looking natural. Snake venom is natural. Termites are natural. I want to be hot.
I think that Marceline the vampire queen from adventure time is an interesting subversion of this trope. Because for one she’s actually canonically bi, but also because of her love interest Princess Bubblegum. Bubblegum is actually a lesbian. She also is extremely powerful. She built whole life forms and a kingdom from nothing that she has ruled over for hundreds of years. So Bubblegum subverts the helpless bisexual damsel that is stolen from the man trope.
Bubblegum is bisexual too, though? I remember, in one episode, a bit of her past when she was more of a warrior queen is revealed. And back then she had a boyfriend. Or, at least, a being coded as male that she calls her boyfriend.
Really enjoying your videos!
How do you not have more subs, tf? You've done some of the best video essays I've seen.

I just got the vampire sunscreen ad on this video.
Also, I recently discovered a lesbian vampire that predates Carmilla - “Christabel” is a poem that was written in the 18th century but not published until the Regency. Fascinating, huh?
Fascinating video. It has me thinking about the brides of Dracula and I think I'd like to see a movie or book focusing on them.
The movie Van Helsing with Hugh Jackman does something different with the brides. I don't want to spoil it for you if you haven't seen it .
