A massive wildfire raged near Nepal's capital city Kathmandu on May 2. Emergency crew worked overnight to battle the blaze which swept across a forested area in Lalitpur. The authorities in Nepal have blamed the wildfire on a severe heatwave. The scorching heat forced the closure of at least 100 schools in the Nepali city of Butwal. In Lumbini city, temperatures soared above 40 degrees Celsius. Wildfires in the country typically start in March but these fires have intensified in recent years due to climate change, leading to drier winters. Over 4,500 wildfires have been reported in Nepal this year, twice from what was reported last year. Nepal disaster management authorities have warned that the wildfire season could last another month.

people burn the forest. i saw them starting the fire in many places and multiple occasions. the entire midrange hills are full of smoke. the authority must educate foolish villagers about this foolush tradition.
