  • Amidst heaps of discarded technology in a sprawling junkyard, the caretaker tends to androids left behind by a society always racing towards newer innovations. This short film captures the tender care he gives to these sentient beings day after day, which were once integral to human life, but are now replaced and forgotten. The caretaker charges life back into the robots, working in the shadow of progress.

Because every generation is faster and more capable, then that latest & greatest "next" generation helps build the next & better generation. So, it geometrically improves, instead of linearly. Scary if you think about it. We are frozen in our capability levels and body-construct, but AI and robots have no boundaries or limitiations with their options.

I guess routine and familiarity does a lot to settle abandonment.

Excellent work. First time I've seen a video where although it is clear the image were generated by AI, the entire story was told well and was worth watching. The range of robots pictured gave an idea of the number of models of robot that will be out there one day once the intelligence of the robot is nothing more than a black box. Too complex for any of to really understand, but humans are happy to use stuff they don't understand. Really well done and definitely an extrapolation of technology that could become a reality (I'd train up some bots to do the looking after of the others, but I guess these ones were all kept relatively stupid and limited in their scope).

It brings all the humanity of good humans and giving it mechanoids and that is always a best seller. i personally feel it should be at the very least a Tv show with corresponding episodes. its really that good. i look forward to more. very cool idea. i'm curious where your stories will go. Things like this is why, while I understand the concern of people in the art fields, I'm not fully against using AI for things. smaller passion projects such as this would be too expensive for many people to create or hire others to create in their vision.

    • @joemeiser

Thanks very much. Indeed, there are some serious ethical implications to consider when creating images and videos with AI - and I'm doing some thinking/researching on how to use these tools responsibly. But at the same time, AI is making it possible to tell stories that would be far too slow with the digital sculpture CAD tools I usually use.

It really speaks to the ethical dilemma of creating something to have "emotions," but not accepting any emotional responsibility for that which has been created... I think it will be really telling what kind of people we are when we have that level of technology to do with and treat as we wish.

Truely beautiful Thank you for sharing. Your other pieces of footage are in the same league.
As a side project have you considered playing with some of Giger's illustrations ?
I do believe you could do something quite respectful and magical. Massive attack's song Teardrop is an exceptional piece of music and covers worthy are rare. Newton Faulkner did a cover, acoustic guitar in a lift, of Teardrop that is exceptional and Only gives praise to its creators by his respect and dedicated application in covering the song the way he did.
I do believe You could achieve this with Mr Giger's works.
