As a 75 year old I ave been a shooter my whole life and have hunted every fall. A decade ago I was a cowboy shooter for years and loved watching the blackpowder shooters. The one area I had missed was muzzleloading. Last year I built a Hawking percussion Kit. It was fun and I learned a lot. This year I plan to build a Kibler kit. I guess the older I get the futher back in history I go.

I’m 58 and I think it’s because we grew up watching Daniel Boone and Davey Crockett on tv. We caught the bug real early. I’ve been muzzleloading since the early 80’s. I sincerely hope more young people get into the hobby it’s a lot of fun.

I'm 27 and watched ol Fess Parker as Daniel and Davey as a little kid all the time.
I walked up to my grandma when I was real little one day with a big ol grin on my face. She asked "What are you smiling like that for?" to which I replied "I'm Davey Crockett and I'm grinning down a bar."
I then got re-introduced to the business end of her cane.

This is what people's going to have to go to when ammunition Runs Out is the old flintlocks I left Flintlock rifles I sold every one of my regular rifles and just went to Black Powder only cuz that is the way to go and besides it's so enjoyable it is unbelievable you're doing the thing that you're forefathers done before they was such a thing as a brass shell this is what they had to rely on to survive but it's much more than that and if anybody ever only Flintlock they would understand the beauty of them there's nothing like taking the game with the flintlock

Gotta say the Kibler kits rock, took me about 6 hours to assemble mine. Just started finishing it tonight. Ordered a Rifle Shoppe Bess and Charleville after coming in from the shop. It's addicting for sure. In my opinion the Kibler is easier than the Traditions stuff.

    Great video, thanks!
To me, the greatest thing the Kibler kits gives the new builder is the opportunity to build an Heirloom Quality rifle on their first try. Very few tools are required, and you will see them all in Jims' videos. While my Colonial kit was not my first muzzle loader, I found it to be of the Highest Quality, with marvelous inletting, an Excellent (upgraded) stock of lovely maple. The Lock deserves an entire paragraph of its' own! I fired 27 shots during sighting in Before I had to knap the flint. Fantastic burst of sparks too. Buy any of the Kibler kits, follow Jims' videos, work patiently, Don't Rush, and you will wind up with a beautiful rifle.
My rifle is quite plain, with no carving, hence I did not have to buy any special gouges or chisels. Remember, the majority of rifles made historically were fairly plain, most of the well preserved and Beautiful rifles we see still in existence were top end, "Custom" if you will, which were well cared for and passed from generation to generation.
Jim and Katherine are great to work with too.
    Y'all enjoy!

very interesting. As a builder of flintlock rifles these are nice, especially if a person doesn't have all the tools to build one or doesn't want to live through the mistakes of the first couple rifle builds. Thanks for sharing Ethan.

Fantastic work! Thank you. I finished a Colonial a few months ago and it is AMAZING. I ordered a Woodsrunner in .54 Maple and expect it will be much lighter and with the balance point a little further to the rear as a result of the shorter barrel. With an aching left shoulder, I need all the help I can get. The Kibler kits are far and away the highest quality kits in the market. I'm building a Lancaster style rifle now from Pecatonica parts and they are also very nice but require significantly more work to fit and finish...an order of magnitude more work. I enjoy the challenge of the more basic kit any my skills are improving as a result, but stressing out over locating barrel tang, rod pipes, and lock bolt holes is something I'd rather not deal with on the next kit so Woodsrunner, here we go! Thank you for all you do for this wonderful craft and sport.

I love my Kibler Colonial! Much easier to finish than the Pecatonica kit I did first. Starting to save for my next kibler.. just cant decide if I want a small caliber mountain rifle or the new woodsrunner. The woodsrunner wouldn't do much of anything different than my colonial does for me, but man is it pretty.

I was there on Friday and was very impressed and glad that I went. I had brought my rifle to display since Kibler's Longrifles is using it as an example on the website under the More Information tab for the Southern Mountain. I agree that there were many who appeared to be over 60. They were asking me (also over 60) what it took to build my gun. I even had a fellow with arthritis hand damage ask me, and I told him that with a vice, he could do this, too. The crafting of the Kibler Gun is just that good, you can build one almost one-handed if need be. I was hoping that the next gun would have been a Fowler with a octagon into wedding ring then round barrel, but alas, the Woods Runner came out first. I also know people were wanting a Hawken and quite a few were looking for a Left-Handed gun. Jim did say that he would be basing the left-handed on what gun he currently has selling the most. Seeing how he was working hard the whole time I was there, it would not be hard to imagine that he already has a pretty good notion of what gun that will be.
It was also nice to talk to Lorie and Katherine and put a face to the people I had e-mailed and telephoned there at Kibler's. Jim and his people did a bang-up job on putting on this open house and I am still very happy that he did.

Very interesting to hear about this rifle kit. I think I may be building one soon! An improvement for us viewers, if I may make a suggestion, is to go straight to the item (In this case, Kibler's rifle kit.), and to edit out much of Ethan's chat about relatively unrelated stuff, including his dropping the line about our dearly loved 2nd Amendment. I, for one, was here to see more of Kibler's newest. I came away feeling like I saw very little of it.

    • @myrlstone8904

I think you must keep in mind that Eathan was respectful of what appeared to be Kibler’s wish to keep many of the details regarding the new potential products under wraps at the time. I applaud Kibler’s on this approach - contrast this to companies making premature press releases, talking big and delivering little.
As far as being offended by any mention of the 2nd - I can only guess that you do not live in a certain handful of states; Cal, NY, MD, NJ to name a few. I lived in one these states and now live in another. Not only are the laws oppressive, but the administration was, and still is in some, corrupt. In one , It was widely known that being friends with the county police agency was the only, but at the same time almost guaranteed path to acquiring any permit. I must applaud Md - most of the very restrictive regulations are still in place but they are making major changes rooting out the corruption involved in the administration of such.
Yes, we exist in an exemption niche, but to believe that niche is guaranteed in perpetuity is, in my mind, a pipe dream. Laws are not written by muzzleloading enthusiasts. A background check to purchase any propellant might seem very reasonable to many. Just saying. Off my soapbox, friends.

This is what is needed world wide. We don't need to make anything in China. If you want things made in the US you should be able to get it.its not made better or cheaper in China then in the US. That just big business spinning crap.
Its more often then not the materials are not as good. It's more often then not poor management they say we are moving manufacturing to China but they are not they are just buying off some Chinese company. CEO are the problem. They get huge pay checks and bugger everyone else. Even the company they work for. Once the I find it's made in China I will no longer support them. And advise everyone I know. Bugger them
