Great video, thank you!!!! I live in the Lake Norman area and I am very familiar with your travel south from the Pittsburgh area, I have a daughter who attends Franciscan University in Steubenville Ohio so we are up that way a couple of times a year. If you ever come back in the winter check out fishing near the Marshall Steam Plant on the north end of the lake in Mooresville or in Huntersville at the south end of the lake by the McGuire Nuclear Plant, both areas are hot holes from the water discharging from the plants and the temperature of the water near these places is usually around 15-20 degrees warmer then the main lake so there's good winter fishing there. Plus there is a good stretch of public access areas for bank fishing at both sites if there was a day you didn't want to go out in a kayak.
Thanks so much! Small world. Congrats on the kiddo in college. I actually checked out Marshall in a video on this channel. But I haven't been to McGuire yet, thanks for the reminder!
Great to see that you enjoyed LKN! I live here one Lake Norman so next time you get down this way, hit me up. I’d love to go out Hybrid fishing with you!
hey! i'm going to fishing on LKN this week, Tuesday to Thursday, Feb. 8-10, marshal warm water discharge area, if you're around. putting in at McCrarry, Can't miss me. Green-yellow kayak, red-flannel shirt, haha.
I'm trying to find them on Lake Chesdin in Virginia. The DWR stockS it every year with hybrids and stripers. Most winters the water stays open, especially down lake near the dam. I Just went this past weekend trying to chase birds and there was a lot of bird activity, but no bites. May need to try out your technique with the light jig. Also could be a potential lake for you to check out this winter that should be closer than NC.
Thanks, oh wow, nice. I never tried Lake Chesdin, but it looks great on depth maps. I like those 30-35' deep flats with good drop offs along the shorelines near the dam like you said. I'll try to check it out! It's been an odd season this year for bait fish, with a long summer, then a suddenly cold and clear fall, as Arctic air came down into most of the US last month; it really did a number on bait fish schooling patterns, only delaying things though. This year, it's like we went from fall to late-winter, already, in terms of jig presentation, so I'm barely moving the jig these days, keeping it on the bottom, letting it move with the drift of the kayak, giving it an occasional pop with 3" move of the rod tip. Let me know if that works!
@@YFAwithTodd just leaving the bait shop now getting some of those little jig heads and gulp minnows! You are spot-on about the bait fish, I had them patterned pretty well on that Lake, they were moving into the backs of the creeks and shallow areas pretty consistently, then within the period of like a week, almost the entire bait school on that Lake shifted down Lake to within the last two mile stretch. It'll look like a desert on the fish finder until you get down there, then there are massive clouds of shad everywhere. I've tried trolling, Alabama rigs, bucktails, bigger flukes, nothing has been able to really turn them on and trigger a bite. Hoping to try out your technique before the week's out.
Hey that’s a funny coincidence. I was out doing a bass tournament that day around where the plane crashed. Thanks for the info on the hybrids. I got a little Jon boat not too long ago and been wanting to start targeting them.
Yup, Stumpy Creek, only $2. You just put money in an envelope though, honor system, nobody monitoring, no gates. No fee at Pinnacle. Thanks for watching!
Absolutely "a-luring" fishing video! Making your family so proud! Keep the videos coming.
