Replacing Capillary Tube On Reach In Cooler

  • Part 2. I found a restricted capillary tube on the first trip out for a warm cooler. I return this trip and replace the cap tube and restart the system after doing a triple evacuation as a result of having a steady rise on my evacuation blank off test.
I will also show why the Testo 550 digital manifold gauge set is a cheap Chinese knockoff of the high-quality Testo 557 gauges and not worth cutting corners on. Buyer beware. I emailed Testo about my issues with the Testo 550s again because my 557s went bad, after finding out that the 557 we're going to cost more than half of what they are new to repair, I found it's not worth repairing and when combining that with the dissatisfaction of the 550s that are brand-new looking, I am very disappointed in their response. I got no response... Thanks for the great customer service Testo USA...

One the things I covered when I taught class at the union and spent time at our wholesale counter was to show techs how to figure the additional refrigerant needed when replacing a pencil drier with a 032 cap-t drier. By doing a ratio by comparing the volume of the two driers ( pie x r squared x length )and adding the difference . I had a whole presentation just on cap tube systems. The Sporlan drier tells the liquid holding volume of different refrigerants on box. I’m sure it wasn’t exactly accurate but it got the guys close enough where the units worked I never had a complaint in all the 30 plus years I did it. Now that I’m retired after 37 years I enjoy your videos very much you do great work keep it up !!👍

Thanks Bill, I might try doing it a little bit more like this, maybe not quite as fast transition, but vocal overdubs or voice overs as they call them is how a lot of people make videos. Plus there's always the benefit of not having two stop and explain things while you're doing the job. It's definitely going to take some practice, I've always been into videography but never quite to the production value that I would like to see. I'm trying to get my audio mixer to work with my computer. I have a QU-SB 16 channel Allen & Heath digital mixer that is massive over kill for video. But then again... you just seen me use two three-quarter inch vacuum hoses on quarter inch refrigeration lines 😁 who knows what's Overkill kill is in this field🤣🤣🤣

Do you just heat up the old cap tube when removing it on the evap coil side? What psi do you pressurize the system with nitrogen for leak test? (Typically on the residential a/c systems we go to 300psi but that seems high for this) what micron level are you trying to reach? (For us we want 500). @@sleepnumber6ok... I made that video a while ago, that was one of the few that I did a voiceover narration. I made it really snappy because I hate people that have videos that drag on forever and show me stupid things that I don't really want to know nothing about. I don't need know when people go to the bathroom or where they go get their coffee at that's just a waste of my time 🤣, so I try not to do that to my viewers. To answer your questions, I usually heat up my base metal meaning the coil side first and wait till it becomes soft then I pull the capillary tube out. microns are microns you're supposed to stay under 500, do I always get that, no especially when compressors had refrigerant in it. Inside the cooler it should tell you what the test pressure is, generally it's like 150 lb but I've never had a problem doing it as high as 250. Supposedly you can blow the terminals out of the compressor if you make it too high. One word of caution... I would say if you're just getting into refrigeration and doing it on your own, you got to keep in mind they may have a lot of money in that cooler or freezer and if you make a mistake they're going to probably come after you for the cost of the food that gets spoiled if things don't work out. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Thanks 4 checking out my channel. 👍👍
