Never heard or seen Terje on acoustic too.Though I have a long story with his work. It's a fantastic gift. Thank you!!!! And yes, special mention for the audience!! Great fun out there!! The number of controls on Terje's electric guitar is quite stunning too. Total 70's!
The album I can think of where he plays acoustic is After The Rain, his 1976 solo album (and I mean "solo album" as in, he plays all the instruments, except for some vocals from his then wife Inger Lise Rypdal).
Spending my January 20th, 2017 here in America bingeing on Terje Rypdal. Tomorrow I fight for America against The Apprentice administration. Thank you for posting this...
In my opinion, Rypdal is the best guitarist in the world, for his absolutely original technique, for the effects and sonority that he obtains from the guitars, his intricate compositions and the set of his discography. In addition, Rypdal is self-taught!
this dam guy tricks me every time! Just when I get to thinking he's gonna do a cookie-cutter flamenco/gipsy type thing, he brings in chords that are so weirdly perfect. It's giving me questions about existential stuff.
one of my all-time faves, and I love this clip... BTW, anybody know what the electric guitar is that Rypdal plays later in the clip with all the bells and whistles?
Hello Lasse..its been a long time since I have talked to you ...could you tell me how Terje is doing...Is he ok....I havent seen anything recent from Terje....
First time I ever see Terje on acoustic guitar! Great playing by Palle, Sveinung and Jon. ps. The audience here seems not really amused ... Was the show in Norway?
This TV-programme was aired friday late evenings in Norway, and had a variety of musical guests. It was produced from a restaurant in Oslo. The audience reaction after "Body Music" was like after Marty Mcflys Hendrixian solo in the 50s in "Back to the future". Music was ahead of its time I guess.
Oh, a real coincidence: For tomorrow I got an invitaion to revisit that old club (Göttingen/Germany) again (closed since 1982) where Rypdal has performed several times in the 70s. I hope I still can recognize the rooms/stage etc. - Recently I found my tapes from the March 1977 show (incl. Palle + Sveinung). The cassette still sounds fantastic !!!
The acoustic piece is on Rypdal /Vitous /DeJohnette, but very different. Its called Sunrise. The latter can be found on the new edition of Odyssey Live from 2012. First movement in the big band composistion.
@@earospace THAT'S why I recognize that. I was thinking I knew it from one of the bootlegs (in fact, I DO have a bootleg of Unfinished Highballs, which I got a few before the official release came out, but I did'nt really listen to it very much).
I could listen to a whole album of Terje doing acoustic !
Man, Rypdal really is legendary. What a group too!
Too often overlooked, Sveinung was a very important part of the Rypdal band sound. At least for me. One of my favorite bass players ever.
So fantastic hearing this session. .
The greatest ECM jazz musicians on this earth.. just amazing
still love your music!!

Sublime. Thank you Lasse.
Oh for a lot more like this. I don't think I've ever heard him on an acoustic guitar before. Sunrise is a delight.

In addition... he was listened by no other than Jimi Hendrix... Jimi knew about him !

would be nice?
Are either of these pieces on any of the albums? I don't recognize the titles, but the second one sounds familiar.
