  • In this video, I dive into the latest releases from Daiwa, focusing on their new BFS reels. I'll give you an in-depth look at the Tatula BF70 and the 24PX BF70, discussing their features, performance, and whether they're worth your investment. Join me as I share my honest opinions on these new Daiwa offerings and help you decide if they're the right choice for your fishing arsenal.
    - Daiwa has released two new bait finesse reels for the US market, the 24 Tatula BF 70 and the 24 PX BF 70.
    - The Tatula BF 70 is essentially a rebranded Daiwa Salamandura, priced at $240, without a clicking drag feature.
    - The 24 PX BF 70 has a list price of $349, but it's essentially an Alphas Air TW, which can be purchased for much less overseas.
    - Both reels have received criticism for being essentially rebranded versions of existing reels, with no significant upgrades or improvements.
    - I'm personally disappointed in Daiwa's latest releases, but it's comparable to moves made by Shimano, Kastking, and Abu Garcia in recent years.

    • @AaronHuntFishing
      @AaronHuntFishing  3 месяца назад +1

      Just buying the salamandura is easier. I haven;t done enough fishing with them both to give a complete answer. But the Tatula 80 has been doing surpisingly well in my "Power BFS" outings. I kind of forget it's a modified reel - the cheap drag clicker I put in is a little clunky. I may eventually get a better one... or you could just skip the drag clicker, and then the conversion is super simple..

      @AaronHuntFishing  3 месяца назад +1

      @@zacherychristensen8031 Some people argue there's not technically a real benefit. That ins some cases (this is one) that it can make the drag less smooth. So I wouldn't;t recommend this clicker for a really light-weght application. But I find an audible cues that alerts me a fish is pulling drag and how fast to be invaluable. I have a video coming out on Saturday where I hooka BIG bass on one of my lightest combos - usually used for trout. The fish starts taking drag immediately. It was near a tree. You can see I adjusted the drag to control the fish a bit more. That's why I like it. It's just a bonus it's cool for video too. :P

    • @AaronHuntFishing
      @AaronHuntFishing  2 месяца назад +1

      If it were Daiwa, unlimited budget, I'd probably do the Steez Air paired with my signature Hunt BFS rod from kistler. If you don't get into the lightest weights of BFS and want more of an elite "Power" BFS good for 1/8 oz and up, swap the reel out for the Steez CT SV TW.
      If you want a fast rod isnetad of the softer action of my rods, the Megabass Destroyer line is the most redaily available premium BFS offerings. They are typically $1-$200 more than the Kistlers.
      If you want to spend a $200 or so less ont he reel, the Gekkabijin for light weight and the SS Air for the upper end of BFS are good choices.

  • @TheD510addict
    @TheD510addict 4 месяца назад +1

    This is a trend for the US. Just look at Cell Phones and Computer tech. We get shit for high dollar here but Asia is far ahead of North America in cost vs performance.
    A few quick corrections though. The Alphas Air spool is vastly superior to the Gomexus, Gomexus is Harbour Freight compared to the Snap On spool in the Alphas. Drag Clickers are generally a gear whore thing, you dont need drag clickers for big fish that take big runs, you dont need it for stream trout. The SLX BFS, regardless of MSRP, has retailed for less than a buck 70 since its release in the US. The only difference between that and the Curado is color and 2 extra bearings in the handle knobs. Makes zero functional difference and smoothness would be next to impossible to detect if properly lubricated.

    So expect Daiwa USA or any other company to set their prices based off of the Japanese exchange rate? Who does that?

    • @AaronHuntFishing
      @AaronHuntFishing  4 месяца назад +1

      It's their business, they can do what they want. But I think this move is short-sighted and borderline deceptive.
      It would be like Sony, Olympus, Canon, or Sigma selling their cameras and lenses at 33% to 50% less in Japan, and then launching the "new 2024" US model as the same thing they've been selling in the Japanese market since 2020... and charging 50% more for it.
      Imagine if Sony released the A9 ii this year as a "new" model in the US, charging more than what the a9 iii has been selling for in Japan since last year, and 50% more than the current price for a new a9ii in Tokyo. How well would that be received?
      EXCEPT: There's actually some engineering work for them to do that, because the menus need re-programmed. Reels are analog. No engineering required to re-release.
      And yes - as someone who was a global business leader in new product development for much of my career, exchange rates are ALWAYS a consideration when launching to a new market. EVERYBODY does that.
      How about not calling something a "new model" when it's already 4 years old. That's really the point. And it is a global marketplace. you can't expect to over-price a market by 50% and get strong sales with the same product.
      And then there's the loyalty ding when folks pay the $350 and later find out what they bought was a 4-year-old, $250 reel.

    • @PhotoBob
      @PhotoBob 4 месяца назад +1

      @@AaronHuntFishing I guess what I’m saying is of an Alphas Aor was released in 2020 at 34600 yen that was $335 if they are selling at the same 34600 today it’s $233. That’s not on Daiwa yo compensate on falling currency. In 2yrs it might be back to over $300.
      I work in global manufacturing with enterprise size companies and everyone has to factor in exchange rates.
      Obviously opinions can vary on this but I can’t see it as price gouging.
      Also my first response felt a little assholish lol I didn’t mean it to be. Love the video and your channel!

    I don't understand the obsession with click drags. No other baitcasting reels I have ever had them , and I have been fishing with them for 45 years. No Daiwa, Shimano, Abu Garcia that I've ever owned or still own.

    • @AaronHuntFishing
      @AaronHuntFishing  2 месяца назад

      Fair enough. But most of those probably held more than 10-20 yards of line in reserve after a cast. For me, that's a big part of the equation. Espcially after having an experience a few times of nearly getting spooled by large fish.
      BFS reels are typically loaded with 40-50 yards of line to be able to cast ultra-light lures with rpecision - vs the 100- to 140-ish yards most traditional BC's hold.
      Plus, many Baitcasters are starting at 12# test - often running over 50# test on rigs that will rarely catch a double-digit fish. So the drags can be cranked down - often the line is stronger than the amount of drag the reel can even apply. So fish aren't pulling much drag. Some of those frog-rod and punch-rig situations are applications make sense, but often guys are running 30#+ just fishing open water.
      With BFS, we're usually running 4 to 8 pound line, and targeting fish in that same or larger size class. With reels that sometimes have drag capabilities HIGHER than the line breaking strength. So fish WILL pull drag at the proper drag setting.
      Add all that up - and it's really good to have an extra alert than a fish is running.
      But obviously some people don't like them, and maybe at times companies make the silent BFS reels to appeal to the traditional bass fisherman.
      Valid arguments AGAINST a clicking drag: it's one more part to wear. It does add a dollar or two of cost (mostly labor). And if not executed well, it can make the drag less responsive.

    • @philipfalco7304
      @philipfalco7304 Месяц назад

      I like having the drag clicker just on my BFS reels. When your using really light line, it does help to know when the lines coming off. However, on my traditional Bass reels, their a waste. I have the clicker on the 19' Antares and 21' Zillion SV TW and it just doesn't make sense.

    • @AaronHuntFishing
      @AaronHuntFishing  4 месяца назад +1

      Well, that was exactly my point - specifically noted on the Aldebaran in this video. $350 is nearly 52k yen. No-one is selling these for anywhere near 52,000 in Japan. most are closer to 35k. So with a strong dollar, it just exaggerates the problem. It's like marking it up even more...
      Then yen-to-dollar ratio is the same globally. Every dollar is just worth more yen right now - making it even more profitable for Japanese companies to sell in the USA.
      Whether you convert yen to dollars or dollars to yen, it's still a 50% premium.
