I just did a marathon of watching all of the restoration. I am actually learning how these machines work and am working on making my own. Fascinating videos looking forward to your next ones.
Great videos Jon, My 6 and 4 y/o daughters at through about an hour of it and where blown away actually. They say you can fix anything and that you are a good worker!
Yeah, that dolly I have is GREAT for moving pinball machines too! I recommend placing some card board or something under the straps to protect the cabinet.
Thank you John for the dolly recommendation! I've been on the hunt for one as I need to move my Goldeneye pinball machine soon and this one looks perfect with those stair climbing wheels. I've been dreading moving day because of that thing and that thing looks like it might help with the agony of getting a 350lb machine back up the staircase.
Nice Video John! I gotta say, I LOVE your videos, every Sunday I can't wait for you new video to be uploaded. I think you and arcadeimpossible have the best arcade videos on RUclips!
In Crazy Comets the ship doesn't rotate, but in Mega Apocalypse it does. I managed to get sound samples like "Get Ready!" working at the same time to. I went to the arcade and recorded... I think it was 'Space Harrier' saying 'Get Ready', I then went home and recorded myself saying 'Get Ready' and trying to sound as much like the arcade game as I could - took me hundreds of goes! You should come on my podcast to promote the Vita version when it's ready. Sure would love to!! Will keep in touch
Dude, get a set of locks for the back door! I hate screwing the doors on. Nice job on the game. Looks great! I really like that control panel. Tough bends but you nailed it. I hope to see another restoration soon!
When I was a kid, we would go to campgrounds where the arcade games were in an open air porch type setup in campgrounds. Basically, just a roof over them.
John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech Haha, you and your campgrounds. 😁 When you say bathroom scene from Allentown, are you talking about the Billy Joel video? Or is it just a joke over my head?
John, @ 4:57 You mention arcade games being at campgrounds, being outside. I think you meant, arcade machines being in an area exposed to the outside summer heat, hence they probably should have vents. I mean, if an arcade cabinet was literally set outside, precipitation, dust, and wind would wear away the cabinet's paint, rot out the cabinet, and finally, if water seeped into the cabinet, the internal components would rust away when off, and possibly short-circuit if turned on.
Great video John. I have watched your entire restore series and enjoyed every second of it You have a great knack of making it really interesting... even the vacuuming!! LOL. Out of curiosity, if the board is a bootleg is the actual cabinet genuine? Just wondered if they ever used to bootleg everything right down to the woodwork? Keep up the great work John, can't wait for your next video :)
Wow! That's cool. I was an Atari 800XL guy so I never got to play your games! They look cool and the music is AMAZING! I love Mad Planets, one of my favorites in the basement. Are you able to rotate the ship in your game? Or is it always facing up? Looks cool! I'll check out the VITA version for sure. You should come on my podcast to promote the Vita version when it's ready.
Thank you so much for this series! I look forward to your next restore series!! What happened to that arcade project you were gonna build from scratch? I think you showed the PCB for it in the second or third episode of the gyrus restore.
You should really check on the Major Havoc electronics. The sound isn't working 100% perfect (one channel missing) and it sounds a bit low-pitched. Thanks for this awesome series of video! Although I don't have any arcade games, the knowledge might come in handy for something else.
ha! yeah I spent a lot of time at campgrounds as a good. Always hung out at the arcades in those campgrounds. Some of the campground arcades were totally exposed to the elements. Basically just roofs over the games with open sides.
Yeah, I still have my 800XL with Indus GT hard drive! I should dust it off sometime. Maybe I can do a video of it. :) I wasn't familiar with Simon Nicol until he commented on my vid. Seems like he did some cool stuff!
I was saying to myself after you put the cord in the back, leave the plug out! When you screwed in the back board I didn't think you were going to be able to take it back out!
Hello Great Video. I have one of these games but it has no sound . The volume controls are turned up. Do you know what I should look for next to get sound back?
I am not positive that I am missing sounds. I have a slower crystal in it which is slowing the sound down. Atari did this intentionally on the conversion PCBs.
What's a bootleg board worth to real hardware collectors? Will you keep it yourself? I know they archive the ROMs for emulation for bootlegs as well as original games. Also, presumably you can't install high score mods on bootlegs? Congrats on the completion of this project John, it's been a real eye-opener into just all of what's involved in cab restoration; very informative. It being a bootleg covered everything! It's a shame about the side-art but you can always pick that part up again later.
iMovie doesn't allow me to convert the audio to mono. The only other solution I found was converting it in Quicktime after and well, I don't have time for another post process. So, lavalier mic it is! :)
Thank you John, that was really interesting! I've just watched the whole series in one go :) I'll definitely be putting a link to your videos on my site. Incidentally you might like to know I'm the author of Crazy Comets and Mega Apocalypse that were based on Mad Planets. I'm writing a new version soon for the Playstation Vita. Keep up the stunning work. All the best.
hey i just bought a sky adventure cabinet , do u know what kind of cabinet it is? i want to restore it , its the snk one 1998 , thanks if u r familiar with it
also you mentioned a campground while talking about heat, did you say that because the first time you played donkey kong was in a campground when you got to play for free? haha at least thats what i think you said on vgo before cant remember
people were complaining about your audio? i thought it was fine lol the only thing is that the blacks in your videos seem to have a lot of artifacts :/ but maybe thats just a youtube thing
Ooh, ooh JOHN! I've just had a thought, something I hope you'll be very interested in... Do you have an email address you can share here that I can contact you on? Or facebook maybe. If I remember from your video you said facebook was the address. How can I contact you?
I just did a marathon of watching all of the restoration. I am actually learning how these machines work and am working on making my own. Fascinating videos looking forward to your next ones.
thanks a lot for this video I searched the internet for hours and NOBODY would show how to move a arcade cabinet THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Great videos Jon, My 6 and 4 y/o daughters at through about an hour of it and where blown away actually. They say you can fix anything and that you are a good worker!
Great job John, the cab looks awesome.
Yeah, that dolly I have is GREAT for moving pinball machines too! I recommend placing some card board or something under the straps to protect the cabinet.

Sweet vacuuming skills John

great stuff man. grats on getting it all setup and in place. This series has me thinking about cleaning up my Tron :P
the restore is amazing, the game is amazing, but the MOST amazing thing about the restore is that you actually found someone at Home Depot to help you
Dude, get a set of locks for the back door! I hate screwing the doors on. Nice job on the game. Looks great! I really like that control panel. Tough bends but you nailed it. I hope to see another restoration soon!
Ha! You know what?? I NEVER put locks on the back doors. Just seems pointless. :)
I just like them because I hate the screws and it makes it more like operating my own games! So what's next for restoration?
That's gonna be a spring project!
If only modern arcades had that whole "beating your friends' scores" vibes classic arcades had instead of "derp let's win tickets".
When I was a kid, we would go to campgrounds where the arcade games were in an open air porch type setup in campgrounds. Basically, just a roof over them.

Not yet! I will soon and I'll do a video showing how to install the high score save kit.
Indeed, Keep up the good videos I'm learning a lot.
Yeah, it is. Just some cheapo Home Depot stuff I put down. Makes the basement nice and cozy. :D
Loved this. "Functional Restore" :D
+joystickjedi indeed. :)
I wish I could fast-forward my life like that sometimes... :)
Good lord I wonder what kind of power bill this dude has.....but super cool gameroom, really awesome

You gotta do a restore on the stairway. That thing looks beat!
Great Video John!
Thank you so much for this series! I look forward to your next restore series!! What happened to that arcade project you were gonna build from scratch? I think you showed the PCB for it in the second or third episode of the gyrus restore.
Ok, I can see that. At our local county fair, there was a similar setup.
You should really check on the Major Havoc electronics. The sound isn't working 100% perfect (one channel missing) and it sounds a bit low-pitched.

John I am planning on burrowing your games for a perpetual amount of time. Can you send them to sf? Love the restoration videos
I was saying to myself after you put the cord in the back, leave the plug out! When you screwed in the back board I didn't think you were going to be able to take it back out!
Have you done anything with the Quantum yet? I'm uber excited to see it.
Simply Amazing!!!!!!!!!
Hello Great Video. I have one of these games but it has no sound . The volume controls are turned up. Do you know what I should look for next to get sound back?
You mean Alpine Ski Taito?? Uh, yeah.. I don't want that! LOL! :) I have Joust in my Multi-Willaims.
I wish scientists could rotate the earth faster to make it summer again, Lol can't wait!
Holy fuck. Thanks for showing that dolly. I'm gonna need to get me one of those.
I am not positive that I am missing sounds. I have a slower crystal in it which is slowing the sound down. Atari did this intentionally on the conversion PCBs.
Gyruss has a clone called venus that's probably what that bootleg board originally held

That's crazy talk! That's like 7 hours of video! LOL! THANKS FOR WATCHING!!!
iMovie doesn't allow me to convert the audio to mono. The only other solution I found was converting it in Quicktime after and well, I don't have time for another post process. So, lavalier mic it is! :)
The blacks is an issue with iMovie's compression. I might try moving over to Adobe Premiere.
Is your basement carpeted?

I have asteroids deluxe but not Galaga or Galaxian.
people were complaining about your audio? i thought it was fine lol the only thing is that the blacks in your videos seem to have a lot of artifacts :/ but maybe thats just a youtube thing
I think the board is worth ZERO! :) It's worth like $30 according to ebay.
Ooh, ooh JOHN! I've just had a thought, something I hope you'll be very interested in...
Do you have an email address you can share here that I can contact you on? Or facebook maybe. If I remember from your video you said facebook was the address. How can I contact you?
Hey John I have uploaded my first video
my e-mail is blkdog7 at gmail dot com. I don't use Facebook. Don't like. :)
